J240ZTurbo
please help, i mounted my p90 head before installing the timing front covered is it still possible?
ezzzzzzz
Not without damage to the gaskets. You should be able to pull the head and reuse your gasket since it hasn't been run yet. Worse case is another head gasket purchase.
J240ZTurbo
it's a 1mm head gasket ok to re-used?
nismopick
Are you building this motor on an engine stand or in the car? Is the oil pan off? You install the head, timing chain, timing cover, THEN the oil pan.
blue72
What nismopick said. I've tried leaving the head on and not removing the oil pan then installing the front cover and I will tell you that it doesn't work. No problem with only the cyl head on, just be careful and go slowly and you shouldn't hit any *snags*.
J240ZTurbo
no oil pan on. I got the engine sitting on a pair of 2*4 on the floor.
nismopick
Cool. So what's the prob?
J240ZTurbo
the problem is, it's a little tight as the cover has two little nipples on the back of it so I will have to push it up and then to in with some preasure???
Xnke
That's how it works. As long as the oil pan is off, then that is the proper method for installing the timing chain and front timing cover.
J240ZTurbo
so the head does goes on before the timing cover???
nismopick
Where's your Haynes manual? I can't believe you'd be doing all this so blindly..... so the head does goes on before the timing cover??? Again: You install the head, timing chain, timing cover, THEN the oil pan.
