ckolander
I have a 79 280zx, whenever I accelerate under power i.e. fast takeoff, I get a loud clunk from the rear of the car. At first I thought it might be squatting and bottoming out, but had a buddy watch and he said it looked stable. The car is stock-ish however I haven't done anything to the suspension, I believe that the PO replaced the shocks/struts about 10/15 years ago, not completely sure on that. I want to get this car mechanically sound before I do any major modifying to it and so far underhood will be perfect after I replace the harmonic balancer. So now my problem is that I need to figure out why I clunk. I tried a search and really didn't get any results. If anybody has any advice or ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chuck
AkumaNoZeta
My Mustang clunks from the rear when I take off hard, but my passenger side rear shock is completely worn so I'm sure its bottoming out. Plus mine is a solid axle so nothing I said helps here at all
Snp93
I have a 77 280Z that seems to have the same problem. From what I have read it sounds like a bad differential mount. I also owned a 79 280ZX 2x2 but it never had that problem. I would look at the front differential mount and see if it is still in one piece. FlatBlack
My car was doing the same thing. I installed a R/T mount last Sunday, and the rubber on the front of my lower front diff mount had completely severed. I believe RoostMonkey still has a few available.
