attworth
I've got the reciprocating ball steering setup. I'm pretty spoiled by it. I'd like to retain it, but the power steering pump needs to go. It's just not entirely pretty. Has anybody mounted their's elsewhere? I was thinking that the lower driver's side of the motor might work, but I can't remember how much room is down there. There could be some sort of electric pump too I imagine. Any ideas? If that leads nowhere - is it ok to remove the pump and lines all together without ruining my steering components? I've driven the car without a belt on it, and it seems just fine, I'm just not sure how prolonged use might affect it. Thanks.
attworth
Hmmm.. I found this. http://www.driveev.com/jeepev/convpgs/psteer.php May be worth a try.
woldson
Can pull up to 80amp. May need to do an alt upgrade.
attworth
That's what I was thinking. Anybody running something similar? I guess a lot of people just ditch the power steering.
woldson
I love my PS. Just bling the reservoir and pump?
attworth
I guess that's a possibility. It's just in a highly unfortunate place for a cleanliness standpoint.
zcarnut
The first year of the Datsun 810 (1977) used a manual (non-power assist) re-circulating steering box. It bolts into the 280ZX. Check the junkyards in your area. You might get lucky.
attworth
Oh really? Interesting. I'll have to check with the local datsun yards to see if they have one. Thanks for the tip!
