Guest TBroZ
So I just bought a World Class T5, and would love to know if it is for sure. There's nothing I can see on the case that says "World Class". Anyone know the proper numbers? Thanks, Terry

73BOTIZ
Go to www.5speeds.com. They have a listing for the tag numbers that will tell you what it came from. Mike D.

Guest TBroZ
Well, I've found some conflicting information. Firstly, I can't find the bolted on metal tag that's supposed to be on the tail housing. Secondly, 5speed.com states that GM started using WC T5's as early as '88, but I scanned through identities, and found some '86 4 cyl. WC trannies. What's up with that? The other website states "All GM T5s manufactured from 1983-1987 were of the Non-World Class design. From 1988-1992, all GM V8 T5s were of the World Class design, but T5s designed for the V6 and 4-cylinder applications were still of the Non-World Class design." This also conflicts with 5speed.com's info. My tranny does have the correct front countershaft bearing race for the WC T5, but the stamp on the side of the case says '87. If it were from a '88 Camaro, that would make sense, manufactured in '87 for an '88 model car. But I'm still concerned about those WC T5's made for V4 and V6's. Why would they put a WC trans in with a small motor? And more importantly, if they did, were those WC T5's still weaker in some way over the V8 WC T5's? How's that for verbal diarrhia? DavyZ
The V8 T5's are stronger then the V6 versions. Also, they use different input shafts so they are not normally interchangable from V6 to V8. The V8 transmissions have input shafts with more splines. Don't waste your time on any V6 tranny! Guest TBroZ
Davy, I know that. I'm just thrown by the indication that they made a World Class V6 T5.
Mike C
The 93 and up cars all have the WC trans behind the V6, supposedly. I have heard rumours it is the same as the Ford WC, but cannot verify. The "newer" V6 WC might be an option for use behind V8s, depending on it's input shaft and gear ratio. The lower numerically the first gear, the stronger the trans. The non-WC Ford trans have a 3.27 first gear while the WC units dropped down to the same 2.95 first as the GM. The early V6 tranny's had, I think..., a 3.5 first gear like the Nissan T5. Wish I had access to a BUNCH of salvage yard T5's...
