AlwaysBroke
I'm planning on putting the 280YZ kit on my car and I'm going to need some drastically wider wheels. Ive been searching for a 17x11 wheel for a while now and I was considering Kodiak wheels but at $700 a wheel I would have to sell my body to the night to afford them. I did find another company that seems a bit more affordable. Also, I noticed that a 300C forum got a group buy with them and got these discounts: 10% off our internet pricing- 5 sets 12% off our internet pricing- 10 sets 17% off our internet pricing- 15 sets 18% off our internet pricing- 20 sets So... yeah... someone should get on that... Anywho, they are called Rushforth Wheels http://www.rushforthwheels.com/. Has anyone bought any of these before? They look pretty nice for the money. (still an arm and a leg, but I will be able to keep my dignity to purchase them ) They are 2-piece and compleatly customizable. Im thinking about getting the Rated-X fully polished in 17x11 with something like a 3.5" backspace. And use 315/35R17 tires. I sent them an e-mail for a quote but havent got anything back yet. What do you guys think?
DeleriousZ
does your Z have 5x114.3 hubs? i imagine those wheels with rubber will be about 75lbs per corner. not cool. the reason why the good wheels are so expensive is because they're most likely forged, and much more lightweight/strong than your average cast/milled wheel. AlwaysBroke
No, I have the stock 4x114.3 bolt pattern. Which is why I'm pretty much going to need to have a custom wheel made. I just got an e-mail from Jason Rushforth and it was a little disheartening. 10" is the widest standard size in our smooth lip barrels which run $487 each and widening them to 11" adds $445 each. With these wheels, the minimum backspace is 4-4.5" Another alternative is 18" 3 piece wheels that can accomodate that size and backspace for $737 each. I know these are compromises of exactly what you were after but yours is an unusual application. Let me know if any of these options might work for you or if you have any questions anytime I need to fill the wheel wells and you can put up to 335 series tires in this kit. I was hoping to use a 17x11 because I would be able to use both a 315 or 335 tire. Its not recommended that you put a 315 on any narrower than a 10.5" wide wheel. 315/35r17 is also a fairly affordable and easy to find tire size. The backspacing is no issue, as I can just use the FWD wheel adapter that I'm using now to use the Konig wheels. This will also give me plenty of brake caliper clearance. Does anyone have any other ideas of wheel/tire packages that are available? Or what are you guys with the 280YZ kits running?

Dudeboy
CALL Zak at Boze/ZE Forged. He can a make wheel to fit a Z four lug / backspace 4-4.5 inches 17 x 11 for the rears or wider. Look in my members album, I just received my wheels and right now I am trying to sell the ZG flares and get IMSA flares and run a 335/35 17 tire in back. Good luck By the way tell Zak, Glenn in Georgia with the Z sent you !!!!
doublexl240z
Try: diamondracingwheels.com not the lightest but definitely not the heaviest. BUT, most definitely the cheapest custom wheel out there, and will be near indestructable. I had 16x10s and 16x12s built for $732.00 to my door. 6 days later!! AlwaysBroke
Thanks Dudeboy I'll give him a call. Are you running any spacer on those? I figured 4.5 inches of backspacing would cause the wheel to hit your suspension. What is the acceptable range on these cars? I would like to get diamonds but they are just so ugly. and with a 17" wheel I wouldn't be able to stand it. I would go for something smaller but there just isn't a good tire selection for anything with that tire diameter and width in any other wheel size. If you go to a 15" or 16" wheel it seems like you would have to go with a 50-60 profile and it would be huge!
Dudeboy
Coilovers will allow you to tuck the wheels in closer, stock suspension a lot of different things to consider, 16, 17 or 18 inches, then profile 35, 40 and 45 series. I did some searches on guys here running 17 inch wheels and 315/35-17 tires on the rear. I measured my stock wheels and went from there. No spacers needed. My suspension is the Tokico springs/shocks (no coilovers). I had the wheels on (without tires) and no rubbing at all. When I get some tires I will see how the tire bulge comes into play, but the way the springs and shocks angle in, I can not see it being a problem. I will be buying longer ARP wheel studs, not enough meat on the 32 year old stock studs. By the way that is a good looking car you got there !! If you have your coilovers 4.5 backspace is not going to be a problem at all. Do a search on the guys running coilovers, I have read 5 - 5.75 backspace range. evildky
At last check CCW's $2200 a set which is only $550 a wheel, so you won't have to spend too much time working that corner plus tires plus a two thousand dollar body kit..... plus coil overs plus when you have wheels that big you're gonna want willwoods
AlwaysBroke
I have the stock suspension right now but I do plan on going the T3 coilover and weld-on camber plate route. It would probably be best to be a little aggressive on the backspacing since I can always get spacers. I'm going to have to wait until the kit comes in so I can make all the measurements and I'll go from there. Its probably still going to be a while before I can afford wheels, but I figured I'd test the waters and see whats available so I can start planing. Thanks for the compliment. It was looking really nice, very unmolested for its age, but last month some chick hit me and crushed my headlight bucket and buckled my fender But her insurance covered it so I decided to spend the $2600 on the 280YZ kit. ZR8ED
Compomotive USA has custom wheels which were not too badly priced. I ended up with Simmons wheels (custom made 17x11 4.5 backspace, and 17X8 zero offset) I worked a lot of overtime for them, but it was a one shot deal. Got what I wanted, perfect fit, excellent quality. I won't need rims again for decades...I hope. hehehe If you really know what you want, don't skimp on quality/fit. Unless you buy wheels every now and again to change the look of the car.
