I bought a set of Sumitomo HTR's 2 weeeks ago.

I got my insurance 2 days ago.($125.00 a year, full coverage, $18,000 agreed coverage!!!)

I drove to Trenton NJ and got temp plates today. (Very wet out there)

I managed to get personalized plates!!! , reading....... "260Z" :mparty:

The maiden voyage/shakedown run could happen this weekend.

I'm sure there are a few bugs.

This car hasn't seen the road since 1992. (I bought it in 2006)

I think I'm going to get myself a nice FIRE EXTINGUISHER as an accessory.

Back in the saddle after 29 years.........( I wrecked my first 260z in 1980)

Oh yeah Tom...sorry to hear that you insured it for $18,000. That means that any attempts to offer you money for that awesome car, would only make you want to wreck it, because I can't never afford to offer you $18,000.

I can't wait to see it on the road! You picked a damn rainy year to put her on the road too. We havent seen sun for about 40 days now!

I think the Sumitomo HTR's are were formerly known as the Dunlop D40M2 which was a penominal tire. They had really tight sidewalls and great steering response.

hopefully Tmart getting his Z on the road gives me a kick in the ass to get going on mine...what should've been on the road last fall is still in the shape condition i left it last spring. Once we (by we i mean Tmart) get the engine back in my truck and wire my G35 for my ipod so i can get throught the commute to/from work easier, we should be able to get crackin on gettin my car back together. With any luck, next summer we will have 2 Z's running (god knows my brother will never get started on his 240). I wish I could just snap my fingers and all the pieces would find their way to where they belong...

An old machinist budy, ( I forgot all about him), set me up with a face broach tool, that allowed me to "machine" the Minilites to accept a standard alloy/mag wheel bolt in tire valve. Better than NEW!!! Holds air, looks like it was born that way.

I got the car out of the basement on Sunday. Started right up with a shot of carb cleaner, (7-8 months storage). Sounded SWEET!!!

Ran it up and down my private road a bit and, BANG. Popped out of reverse under a light to moderate load. More like BANG.:willy_nil

I'm thinking I busted the reverse idler. Fine in forward, BAD in reverse. Intermittent engagement/slipping, only in reverse.

Have reverse gears been a problem in 260z's>????? 4Spd MANUAL.

I"ll be doing a bit more diagnostics, before pulling the transmission.

I have the correct replacement trans in stock...........thanks RAGS (hope it's good)

Your comments/experience would be appreciated.

I have 3 4spd transmissions available to you, should you need them. I may even be able to drive one out to you (having a spare in the car wouldnt be a bad idea either). The only diagnostic you can really do is checking the oil levels, more than that and you'll have to pull and disassemble it.

So, on my back, on the ground today, I pulled the trans on my orange 260, (51k). I dissasembled and found all the teeth missing from reverse gear, as suspected. This trans must have suffered a severe trama prior to my ownership to cause this damage.( Never road driven by me)

Then I pulled the trans from a 260 parts car that I got from Rags, (car on the trailer).

Thank you JESUS.. every thing is the same.

I will install tomorrow. It's only been damn near 2 months registered and insured!

Could be the first road test tomorrow.

All the tire/wheels still holding air after the Minilite tire valve/machining modifications.

Jasper NIce! Relatively easy fix.

Yes, post vids of the 260Z maiden voyage or at least a photo or two.

BTW Thanks for the rear 280Z body wire harness. I can't wait to get my Z back so I can splice the harness into it. Anyday now.
