jimzdat Posted November 19, 2001 Share Posted November 19, 2001 After reading a bunch of posts about installing Autometer gauges, but having nowhere to put a voltmeter, I decided that I would probably do it on my car too--but I have found a solution other than gauge pods, or the lighter plug mounted ones--my new radar detector (Escort Passport 8500) has a voltmeter function, so while you're cruising down the road, you have a nice digital voltmeter hanging on the windshield. They are a little pricey (~$250 on ebay) but I don't know how that compares to the other ones people were looking at. GrayZee Posted November 19, 2001 Share Posted November 19, 2001 I wanted a 2-5/8 autometer temp and oil gauge but I ended up buying a trio pac for the same price (oil, volt, temp) I installed the temp and oil gauges but for the moment I still have the stock fuel/volt gauge in the dash. I plan to replace it with a boost guage, but then the question is where to put the volt/fuel guage... Here is my solution, I realized that the three hole bracket that came with the tri pac has three screw holes (two of which line up perfectly with the screws under the glove box door) So all I need to do is drill one hole in the bracket to be able to hang it under the glove box. At first I thought it would be in the way but it seems to be well out of the way of the passenger's knees. Of course this means that I have three holes to fill. I made a plastic facing to replace the heater control panel and mounted oil pressure, fuel pressure, and next my voltmeter when it comes in. Mike Mileski Posted November 21, 2001 Share Posted November 21, 2001 I had a company called "North Hollywood Speedometer" convert the amp gauge in my early Bronco to a volt gauge. They used VDO internals and resilkscreened the gauge face to the standard 8-18 volt range in the original font. It looks just like a factory volt gauge if they had offered one, it matches all the others perfectly. I'm sure they could do the same with a Datsun gauge.
