auxilary
Today I prepped the chassis for LS1 swap. Didn't have time to drop the motor in, but basically prepped everything else. redrilled and installed a new crossmember (old one was too modified to be used). Trimmed the old AC bracket location, attached the pass side mount. My question about JCI's bolts that John sends... half of them are grade 5, not 8. Some are grade 6. Couple are grade 2? Also, the transmission mount is held by 2 bolts on each side - I'm thinking of drilling 2 extra holes on each side to have 4 bolts support it (I understand it's based on surface area, since it's 2 plates top and bottom holding it in) Next weekend if time allows, the LS1 will go in for a trial fit. (and yes, I know the spacer's missing in the DS mount )
auxilary
Question o the spacer that goes under the mount tower on driver side... did anyone else find the spacer to be too big? I had to grind it down to even be able to insert the bracket. And the large bracket had the bend going through the bolt hole, so I had to grind it flush so that it wouldn't catch. I figure, spacer's easier to grind down and I can add washers if necessary. Curious if anyone else had that issue
240zprace
i didn't have to grind mines at all.
auxilary
weird. I had to take about 1/4" off the spacer to be able to fit it, it's almost snug now. The crossmember isn't really banged up either, and relatively clean
smoorenc
Mine was fine too. I would call JCI, they are good about fixing that kind of stuff.
Guest Gr8White
No problems with mine either, the drivers side connection where you remove the TC rod washer cup and match drill the frame to the mount was a PITA however, the angle was slightly off and after "speaking" to it with my 3 lb sledge it began to see things from my point of view. Everything else bolted right up.
77turboz
Mine was really tight so I gave the bracket a couple of dings and the spacer went in fine. I also beveled the leading edge of the bracket so the spacer wouldnt get pushed over as hard. Everything lined up after that.
