MaTTSuN
I put new wheels on and i was hoping this would go away but it is the same as before so that leads me to belive its the suspension some where when i go about 100kmh /60mph my stearing wheel will shutter in my hands but the car feels like its stable other then a slight pull to the left I am thinking it might be the rack since depending what side i turn full lock it will pull a differnt way when i get rolling again just slightly can these things be the same problem? i have urathane bushings on the rack maybe its not clamped tight enough..... any thoughts? tube80z
By Shutter do you mean it vibrates severely? If so then I'd expect an out of balance wheel/tire or an out of round wheel/tire. Poly rack bushings and a solid steering coupler can often make these symptoms worse. Cary
DeleriousZ
Did you have the wheels balanced prior to installation? That sounds exactly the same as my daily, which has unbalanced front tires. the steering wheel shimmies at about 100kph.
rxsleeper
Front suspension is my guess. Check your wheel bearings first, then ball joints and T/C rods then look at balance, alignment and or flat spotted tires. Ensure equal pressure in both front tires. Apex944
I agree with checking the tires for correct balance as well as the wheel bearings and ball joints. See if they can also check your toe as it can cause shudder issues as well, but if you haven't noticed and unusual tire wear on the front tires then the toe may not be your problem. The urethane steering rack bushings were seated properly when you tightened the bolts down correct? Maybe check to see if the brackets came loose as well and are allowing it to move around. I just recently had the same issue on my '73 and found that replacing my TC rods, steering rack bushings, and steering coupler with polyurethane bushings fixed 80% of the shuddering issue. I also had new tires installed before the bushings and had them properly balanced which helped a little but not much. I then installed an MSA 1 inch front sway bar and now have little to no shudder at all, basically a light vibration from time to time but barely noticable. If the tires, wheel bearings and ball joints all seem fine I would check out all of the front end bushings for cracking, chunks missing etc.. If they are original I would replace as much as possible with whichever material bushing you prefer and go from there.
MaTTSuN
ive replaced all the bushings ith poly bushings the tires are new on it now and balance im leaning more to alignment because the front left tire has allot of wear on the inside of the tire looking like its scrubingallot comp to the other side i checked my wheel bearings and they are ok havent checked my ball joints or stearing knuckles yet, but im thinking of replacing them because they are prob stock and that means really old haha when i get my fender flairs next week ill lower my car back down and get an alignment to sort this baby out
