DRFTEM
Ok I am planning on buying a 1974 260z the owner says it has a l24 with su carbs and a 5 speed. As i have read the 5 speed didnt come around untill 77 and the l24 was only untill 73. So how can I tell if this motor is actually a l24???? turboHLS30
on the spark plug side of the motor towards the top it should say it.....and it could just have a 5 speed swap but the 5 speed was around before that 1/3 of the 240z came 5 speed
neotech84
Check the block, if its the L24 it will be etched on the side near the fire wall as stated.
theghosttanker
you are right, none of the 240's or 260's came with five speeds. Your car has had all its guts switched around. No big deal, the most important thing to look out for on these cars is rust.
blu240z
Difference between l28 l26 l24 is the liters .
Guest Rolling Parts
Most people swap better stuff into the 260Z than was there originally. It's rare to find a 260Z with Hitachi flat-top carbs or the old 4 speed. Not sure why the block was changed to a 240 because the usual change is to the more plentiful and more powerful 280 engine. Hey, if it's drivable and a fair price, go for it!
