wigenOut-S30
So with GT5 coming out pretty soon. I started looking at driving chairs.. well after the shock of 300+ bucks for one, I decided Im going to make one.. So far I got zero dollars in it. Free RX7 drivers seat. and scrap steel I have had laying around.. Here is my inspiration but I put wheels on mine so It can double as a regular roll around chair when not playing a driving game. inspiration. What I have so far.. I found a flaw in this design as it wanted to tip backwards really easy.. sooo Updated design.
AkumaNoZeta
Don't forget to put some kind of lock on the wheels for when you're into the game. You don't want to be rolling away from the controls. I love it so far, I've always wanted to do something like that.
Nizm0Zed
Ive been looking into this too, i have a spare Cobra race bucket in the shed thats getting requsitioned for the project. Looks like the Logitec G25 is the wheel of choice. The G27 is better, but most people are saying its not worth the extra money for buttons you will more than likely never use. Anyways, some more inspiration for you. http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=granturismo&thread.id=99507&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 (awesome discussion and pics) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqZsW-uU5B4&feature=related (just EPIC!!!) Derek
Here's what I came up with using one of my old seats. I pulled the pedals out of the G25 and hung them. Made a big difference. Derek
AkumaNoZeta
You know what sucks? 2.5 years ago I bought the Logitech G25 and GTR2 for my computer and after getting everything installed and stuff, I learned that my computer sucks so bad that with the graphics all the way down and closing all processes that aren't needed it was still jumpy. So now that stuff is just stored away in the closet until I get something better, but with putting all my money in the car I don't think I'll ever get a better computer. Bummer, but oh well. letitsnow
I don't have a wheel, but I do have 2 aftermarket seats out of, oddly enough, an RX7 that I use for gaming seats. You should be able to put something together for ~$4-500 that would easily play most games. I just put a used 9800gt in my ~2yr old amd dual core machine and it plays all the games I have maxed out(turok and oblivion mostly), I think I've got $500 in it including a 17" LCD. Derek
Derek, man that looks really cool! I knew someone on here had to have built one heh.. I like the pedal box too! Thanks. The pedal box was a big improvement. I set everything up like it was the 240 so it's comfortable to me. Derek
wigenOut-S30
***UPDATE**** Well I'm almost done.. Just have to make a couple of gussets to add strength and then paint.
Derek
Looks good. Don't put a center bar in if you can help it, like the evolution has. If you move up to a pedal set with a clutch the center bar is a pain. That' whay I set mine up as a hoop. Derek
