Delasangre4231
Can I/Should I infact replace the rear main seal while changing my clutch? If so how?
jc052685
I never have. They are not very prone to leaking on the L. BUT, you should because they are like $10 and easy once the tranny is out. If it starts leaking in 5k miles you will be kicking yourself. It is behind the flywheel. Little ruber looking thing that goes around the crank. Delasangre4231
Sorry, shoulda mentioned this is on my VG30ET. Assuming its close or the same, wouldn't oil pour out when you popped it out?

Oil will not pour out as the seal goes around the crank which is above the oil level.
znustad
For a rather inexpensive seal, and 95% of the work already done to replace it I would just do it. If you dont and your luck is anything like mine it will leak and possibly cause the new clutch to slip. Also the age of the seal can cause it to leak (dry rot). You will sleep good if you replace it. Make sure it is seated evenly and not to far in on one side and sticking out on the other.
Delasangre4231
Is it a standard pull the oil pan deal on the vg or is it something that just pops out?
Racinjitter
Yep, it pretty much pops out once you have the flywheel off. Very similar to this.
Delasangre4231
Awesome, it just hit me to look at the Haynes manual so that also really helped, thanks for the pic!
