logan1
So I need some cheap heat shield to put on the inside of my firewall and transmission tunnel. I was wondering if anyone had used the duct insulation they sell at Home Depot or Lowe’s as heat shield in their car with good results? Below is a link to the product I am interested in using. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xhm/R-100028603/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
johnc
What happens when it burns?
dsommer
Think he means inside the car, at least I hope so. I've used the silver foil backed stuff inside the car on the fire wall before. Guess it's better than nothing. I think it avaliable at JC Whitney.
logan1
What happens when it burns? Why would it burn on the inner side of the firewall?
leftover z
I wouldn't use it on the exterior, but using it on the iniside couldn't hurt.
Pop's Z
Funny you should ask. I just re-did my interior with a combination of "Q-Pads" and duct isulation from Lowes. My son was an hvac installer and said it might work for cars. It was a hellava lot cheaper than dynomat, etc. I did the whole interior including the firewall (inside, of course). So far it did what I wanted...decent heat and sound insulation. We'll see how it does over the long haul. I did put the factory firewall insulation over it. Cheers, Mike
logan1
I've been reading a lot of good reviews on other auto forums about the Reflectix: Double Reflective Insulation.
