Distortion
Ok guys I just picked up a 1974 Datsun 260z 2+2 Model. With 16k on a rebuilt motor(Guy had receipts to prove it) I really would prefer fuel injection. My question is this. Is the 280zx head compatible with my l26 block. I realize there are probably some modifications required but if its possible id like to invest in efi. I do realize there is much more work than just changing a head. ECU,dizzy, wiring, is all involved but i just need to know if the head bolts up
240zip
I put an E31 head on a F54 280ZX block. That's a fairly common swap for the 240Z. The EFI heads from the 280ZX would mate with the L26 block too. Pretty much all the heads / blocks for the L24, L26, and L28 can be interchanged, albeit with mixed results. To be frank, the effort to go EFI and the effort to go turbo are about the same.
Distortion
The plan is to do both. L26 block with the L28et head, intake mani, turbo mani, and turbo. As well as the ecu and evrything else entailed. I would just swap the motor but the fact this one is so fresh(16000 miles) and has perfect compression makes me wanna keep the block.and just swap everything else over. I also gotta get rid of this 4 speed. I hate not having 5th Edited December 20, 2010 by Distortion
rossman
Do a search. It has been discussed many times on this board. If your going to go FI, go with a decent aftermarket EMS like one listed in the EMS sub forum.
Distortion
ok thanks. I figured it had been discussed i just needed a quick answer. I found a 1983 280zx turbo top end for 200 wanted to know if i could use it
rossman
Make sure it's a non-hydraulic lifter head else your asking for trouble. Most, but not all P90A heads have hydraulic lifters.
