abes
Well I accidentally broke off a piece of the pinion gear wile on the press removing the bearing. Do guys think it'll be a problem? Balancing or vibration issues?? I don't think the part that broke off comes in contact with the main gear but I'm still a bit concerned.. johnc
Yes, it will be a problem. Time for a new ring and pinion.
JMortensen
If it doesn't come in contact with the ring gear, you can smooth it a little bit with a sanding disk and it should be OK. http://www.ringpinion.com/TipOfTheDay.aspx?TipID=
ezzzzzzz
I agree with John and Jon. It all depends. What you can't see is any microfine crack that may rear it's ugly head down the road (literally). You're already in there. Swap out for a new r&p and be sure there will be no problem. Heck, it could be a good time to do a ratio swap if you're so inclined.
abes
I guess I'll ask.. Do any of you have a 3.70 set for sale??
piston
I'll go with John C, and say it is going to be a problem. Looks like the wear pattern shows it runs right on the line with the chipped edge. If it's not a lsd unit, I would just go dig another one out of the junk yard as a whole. abes
It's an LSd unit
JMortensen
It's an LSd unit No problem. Go get another with the gear ratio you want, and swap the LSD into the new unit. I wrote a FAQ post on this. It's easy.
