emoximuu
I'm about to deploy again and am looking for reading material. I'd like for it to be driver based (IE: self improvement). I'm also looking for aero and suspension related reading but I need for it to be in depth and understandable. I'm the kind of person that will not sleep untill I feel that I have mastered something (I just stayed up till 3am this weekend study turbo's, from basic to advanced). If you have any recomendations, I'm open to them. On a side note Competition Car Aerodynamics: A Practical Handbook is coming out as a second edition. Has anyone used to looked at it. Worth looking at? On the turbo thing. I'm working on a turbo efficiency spread sheet so I don't have to keep doing the long division. It's currently SR20DET based. Would anyone like me to modify it for another motor? If so, which ones? Maybe I'll make it so it'll graph over existing compressor maps in the future... JMortensen
CCA is a great book. There are others in the same series as well. I really liked Comp Car Suspension and I'm into Comp Car Downforce right now. Race Car Aerodynamics by Katz is very good, Tune to Win by Shelby is long in the tooth, but still good, think Fast by Neil Roberts is another good one. These are all about building the car. Driving Faster is a good one on driving technique.
thehelix112
I really enjoyed CCA and Katz as well. I felt like CCS was more of a history lesson, not that it wasn't interesting, but I was a little bummed to read pages and pages of information about how they used to make dampers by sandwiching leather between metal discs. Who gives a toss? I wanted to know about alternate double wishbone layouts and more cutting edge/novel stuff. Alan Stainforth has to have seen a bunch of it, pity he didn't get it into the book IMHO. Gunna have to get CCD now Jon. That and keep trying to drag myself through RCVD. :S Dave
Moltar
Tune to Win is by Carroll Smith (not Carroll Shelby, although with a first name of Carroll for both individuals the mistake can be easily made).

Oops. Slip of the tongue there.
emoximuu
I'm not finding Driving Faster. Is it perhaps Going Faster? Do you have an author?
emoximuu
Crud can't edit from my phone. What about the other books by Mr. Smith?
260DET
CCA was a disappointment, the practical handbook part is a misnomer if you think the book is full of DIY aero tips. Its an interesting book, don't get me wrong, but its not a lot of practical use for Z car purposes. HP books have Aerodynamics for Racing and Performance Cars, anyone looked at that? Think Fast is great, has plenty of interesting and useful info, definately a must have.
JMortensen
I'm not finding Driving Faster. Is it perhaps Going Faster? Do you have an author? Yes, Going Faster. Apparently I need to go find: "Alzheimers at 36. How to Cope." I have all of Smith's books, but Tune to Win is the only one that has managed to hold my attention. I've tried to get into Drive to Win several times, and just can't. I totally disagree about CCA. It has good info on splitters, air dams, wings, diffusers, dive planes. All of those have been used on Z's. Edited April 5, 2011 by JMortensen
