  1. New here

I’m gonna try to get some work done on it this weekend. Got a lot to do with school with weekend though, but I’m gonna try still. I’ll have some pics up if I do anything.
  2. Questions about Auto-X

Thanks again guys. I’m gonna try to get her on the road before the end of the year so hopefully I’ll be posting pics, vids, and times next year. Zredbaron, that’s pretty much what I was thinking, just wasn’t sure if you had to know what you were doing class wise before showing up. Jhm, I’ll definitely check out the forums, thanks for the advice!

Sheeeeeeit, you’ll see rust and welds. My car doesn’t know what floor boards are...the flintstones must have owns this thing at some point.
  4. Questions about Auto-X

    Awesome, thank you sir.
  5. Question

So I know there are folks from all over the world on here, where on the forum can we find people in our area for physical help on cars, track days, cruises, and so fourth...I thought it’d maybe be in the Events section but everything seemed pretty old when I was scrolling through there.
  6. Questions about Auto-X

Alright so if I have a custom dash, interior is gutted minus a roll bar, harnesses, and seats, running SU carbs, and according to my buddy who bought the car before we traded, some “Trickery” in the engine (probably a hot cam) with a header, coilovers and upgraded front sway bar, I could run SP? Or would that be the FP class? I would like to put myself into a class now with out having to dump a TON into it just to get there...does that make sense? I already have a gutted car that needs some structural body work but all in all pretty sound, and the car from what I remember is quick off the line and through corners from the one time I drove it before it was mine. I feel like it has potential to be a really fun car, I just want to see which class I’d fall into if I were to sort of finish where he left off...?

  9. Questions about Auto-X

So what you’re saying is I should be fine lol
  10. Questions about Auto-X

JMortensen, I mainly just wanna have fun and enjoy some competition. I used to race on the streets in Tucson, and some of the mountain roads, but now that I’m older, wiser, and will have a family soon, I would rather be smart but still enjoy some “spirited” driving if you will, in a legal setting. With the prepared class (I do remember reading out this class) in auto-x, are engine mods allowed? It’s already swapped to an L28 (not sure if that counts) and as I said, not sure if it’s cam’d or what, I haven’t actually driven this car, but I do, in time, plan on making these upgrades and eventually doing triples with a turbo. With this in mind, and with your knowledge of the legal racing scene, what should I expect in terms of being able to compete in class races? Honestly for the time being I just want to race myself, work on doing better than my last time, a little friendly competition is always welcome.
  11. New here

Hey guys, New to the forum, used to kick around on ratsun a while back, finally on Hybridz. I’m from Phoenix Arizona, have owned 2 s30s, a 72 and my current 71. Fell in love with the cars when I was young, about 5 or 6 years old. I am a welder by trade, and currently in school for EMS with hopes to become a paramedic with Phoenix Fire. I grew up watching my grandfather race in the 1/4 mile, and remember fond stories of his road racing days as a teen and young 20 something. I know enough about these cars to get into trouble, and I’m always looking to learn something new. I am a sucker for technical information and specs. I may not understand half of what’s being said, but it encourages me to learn more. I’m always open to constructive criticism and others opinions, and take most, serious, responses into consideration when making decisions about my car. I joined this forum to learn and to share my journey and possibly help others in their journeys. -Dean
  12. Kindred Philosophy - S30 Owners (+ generational Z family)

I see it as this, I had watched Wangan Midnight some years back after buying my first Z on the recommendation of the older guy I had purchased it from, he was a cool dude, probably mid to late 50s, his name was Chip. Anyway, I watched this anime series and thought, okay yeah that’s cool but also kind of corny with the whole “The car chooses its driver” and “the car talks to me” thing, but I noticed that the more I drove my car the more I noticed every little nuance, the more I FELT the the car. It was an amazing feeling. I’ve driven a few cars in the past, I even had a 77 Corolla 4 door that was a lot of fun to drive, but nothing really matched the way a z felt. I started to really think at that time that these cars really do have personalities of their own, and it takes certain people to really appreciate exactly what a z can do, to know how to push it’s limits, and how to really DRIVE it. In my opinion, z cars have unique personalities, and the people who love them have a matching personality. I can’t say that’s the same for other cars. I believe this understanding, whether known or subconscious, is what brings z drivers together.
  13. Questions about Auto-X

Hey all, I tried searching for these answers not only in the forums but on the vast interwebs as well and I guess I just haven’t seen the answer in plain English. I have a 1971 240 and it needs a lot of work (floor boards, sway bar mount on driver side [the factory mounting spot is...missing] no dash, no seats, basically a body with wheels, engine/driveline, and a lot of rust and bondo ). I would like to auto-x this car occasionally but still maintain “some” aspects of streetability. So, my questions... How strict are the limitations on “non stock” cars? I don’t have a ton of money, but I feel suspension is most important over power, what restrictions or “laws” are out there regarding coilovers and the like? What classes could I run my 240 in being a stripped down shell? As as far as engine, I know the car had triples before it came into my possession, currently has an unidentified header, unsure if they put a different cam in it...what should I expect as far as inspection at the track? With the safety aspect, when are full cages needed, and are roll bars a must for all modified cars? Any other helpful tips or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
