I was at my local kinokuniya book store to see what I could find to read before I wait in line at the DMV. I head on over to the english manga section (becuz I can't read japanese) and there was an interesting book there, it was called Project 240Z. I thought it was some kinda novel but it was an actual manga well graphic novel anyway. The artist is the guy that does all those Tipo magazines. Anyway if your into manga and would like to read a manga about the birth of the Z its a pretty good read check it out.

Any HybridZ Members Serving in Iraq or Afghanistan?
HadesOmega replied to johnc's topic in Non Tech Board
I served in OIF 2 at camp bucca and basrah airport in Iraq. I think the movies were 5 bux a pop when I was there, they had games too. -
I just used barbed fitting and heater hoses haven't had a problem with em. Just gotta make sure them clamps are real tight.

Just installed some new mirrors, got a turbo timer, springs, shox, and ic ready to install as soon as schools over. Konig Rewinds, wheels adapters, and zg flairs to be ordered soon. Desperately need a paint job also. more info in my site

has ne1 here gotten a L28ET swapped into a S30 smog certified by the ref? I managed to get mine to pass smog after I put the engine it passed damn well too but the guy thought it was a stock engine, but this was just for registration not smog cert. It pretty much is stock cept for a 280ZX =P
-
yeah if your only running 7-9 I would just go with the stock turbo its a great turbo. If you want you can go for a t3/T4.
-
Wow cool beans have fun. Lucky you got a 75 I just had to smog my 76 280ZT (bwahaha passed as good as newers cars!), have fun make sure you don't overcool the engine that's what made mine eat up 12 MPG. My engine kinda used to look like yours when I got it from some dude in Sacramento. if you need any parts I got some http://www.craigslist.org/sby/pts/142951937.html
-
that's what I was about to say, the starter is a different circuit all together if it won't crank you got some kinda bad wiring on your main harness.
-
Wow crazy, I warped the head on my p90 and mine didn't break. It was just old I guess.
-
with your mods I would just go with what EZ-E said NGK plug one range colder if your setup is near stock I'd just stick with the stocker plugs.
-
yeah don't know what shot really means but your best bet is to find an engine warehouse or someone selling a L28 and swap that badboy in.
-
hmm it sounds like you have some kinda leak it should be a smooth sound. Sounds like you got a dead cylinder or something. But I'd have to listen to it myself. Could be an injector, spark plug, headgasket, etc... check your vacuum out to see if its steady.
-
ahh yes smog check you say. Well I'm having registration problems with my car. I was deployed to Iraq for a about a year and apparently the DMV thinks I sold the car to someone. I had the car stored somewhere and I still had the title with me. So they got me running around on temporary registration. anyway 75 is the last year the rolling smog stopped before damn arnold stopped it grr. One year and i woulda been home free so now I have to take it to a smog referee and have them inspect it. As long as its bone stock and pass emissions they'll certify it and you can smog it it at any station.

cool sounds good to me, hopefully I won't encounter any timing problems. That is some rediculously low compression it is a really old engine but I was running 10.5:1 on my eclipse at 10 psi and it held up fine, I guess thats new combustion chamber technology for ya.
-
Ok well here's the deal, I blew my head gasket and took the head off and sent it to the machine shop. He said it was pretty warped, I was surprised I didn't think it would be that bad having been through a water pump and boosted it with the blown gasket. heck it might've been warped when I got the engine. anyway he said it would have to be resurfaced top and bottom, he said it might raise compression by half a point also. He would also have to shim the top but he said that would fix the problem with the cam gear alignment being too low. would it be a good idea to get the work done or just find another head? The compression for the L28ET is pretty low already right like 7.5:1 so it'd make it like a 8:1 or something. Was the L28ET made to run on low octane or high? I put 91 in mine and I don't plan on running some crazy high boost. something around 10 and 14 at most. oh and this is on a 82' L28ET if that helps any.

Turbo Exhuast Valves and valve stem seals
HadesOmega replied to HadesOmega's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
damn I can't find exhuast valves anywhere maybe I'll just get it resurfaced. anyway I think I found out why it keep on blowing in the same place. the exhaust valves are right next to each other on 3 and 4 and on the other cylinders the exhuast is next to an intake valve. anyway I hope a resurface will just do the trick. -
I'm changing the head gasket on my L28ET in my 280Z and was looking at the exhuast valves. They're all white except where the gasket blew and spewed water over them. I was checking the head out and looks like it might need to be resurfaced so I was wonder if I should have the head rebuilt with new exhuast valves. Is it something that will fail often? On my turbo eclipse it cracked a valve at like 110k miles and I know exhuast is hotter on turbocharged cars than NA cars. Also I have a headkit that I bought for my old engine. Does anyone know if the valve stem seals from a 76 L28E will work on a 82 L28ET? Thinking I should change those out if I get it rebuilt. haha one more quick question is it common for cylinder 3 and 4 to blow the gasket and burn water? Samething happened to both my engines I thought I could be slick and get away with putting in the turbo one but that one crapped in the same place too.
-
wow purdy. if you having so much trouble with the oil T why don't you get a stock one? that's what I was gonna do when i was planning to turbo my NA engine.

Backfire and sluggish performance after 2.5k rpm
HadesOmega replied to HadesOmega's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
hmm well I cleaned the ecu connections with some stuff called kontact restorer, it supposedly cleans and lubricates your connectors and smeared a small amount of dielectric grease on em. Runs really good now still got that poor idle when its cold but when it warm it runs great. I'm thinking the timing is fine then I guess because I get 165 psi per cylinder. looks like she's good to go now just have to figure out where this new driveline clunk is coming from seriously I've never seen a car that has drivetrain mounting problems like this one. -
hmm I guess that supra intercooler I picked up seems to be a good choice then, pretty close engine DOHC I6

Backfire and sluggish performance after 2.5k rpm
HadesOmega replied to HadesOmega's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
well I've never messed with the cam, but I did adjust the valves could improperly adjusted valves cause decceleration backfire? I'm thinking it could be associated with timing also. The distributor seems to run fine to me. Could it be the timing chain? -
Backfire and sluggish performance after 2.5k rpm
HadesOmega replied to HadesOmega's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
hmm ok I will use grease sounds like a good idea I used dielectric grease on everything but the ecu connectors. Not too much grease though right? Just a dab over the connectors? My head temp sensor connecter is all busted up though so I better replace that, how often do those sensors fail thinking of replacing it just in case. I drove the car about 100 miles this weekend and its having trouble going up hills. But its a really steep wide freeway hill and I'm trying to take it in 5th which is super tall O_o. It has to use the turbo to maintain speed. My eclipse seems to do a better job getting up it without turbo . The engine doesn't seem as rev happy as the NA one, should it pull strongly up till redline? There really seems to only be power from 2-3k. When I decelerate I get exhuast backfire like pops is that normal, pops more when it deccelerates from higher RPMs. Pulled some plugs too and the tips are lookin white not really white just a small touch of brown on it, like the ceramic part near the elctrode is really clean and the tip is white. Is that normal? I'm thinkin its running a little lean. Maybe I should switch to 7s or put in some of those brown turbo injectors. -
I was looking at those SRT4 intercooler and its exactly what I'm thinking of using, long with straight end tank outlets. Has ne1 used one of these? Its not that expensive for an upgraded one off of ebay also. I did some measurements and it looks like it'll fit, but the ebay one have 3" outlet/inlets and I wanted to go with 2inch because it'd be easier to route. Maybe I could just get 90" 3 inch to 2 inch adapter?

Backfire and sluggish performance after 2.5k rpm
HadesOmega replied to HadesOmega's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
man I did something that made it run smoother O_o, lets see I took the cylinder head temp connector out and put it back in, wiggled the ECU connectors and suddenly my car turned into a rocket ship after 2.5k O_o hmm really annoying how one little thing could cause a large drop in performance.
