  1. Im planning on doing the RB25DET conversion, Just wondering if anyone can help with brake upgrade suggestions??? I live in Australia so buying the ArizonaZcar or Modern-Motorsports kits isnt really an option for me,
  2. Sorry to bother you mate, but i just wanted some clarification - im looking at putting an RB25DET or RB25DE into my Zed and just wanted to pick your brain a bit:-D Just wanna be certain about getting the engine/box/tailshaft in place, I live in Australia and have a right-hand Drive 260z, but you said that it dosent matter for LH or RH, its the same pretty much Engine Mounts & Sump Position: Get engine mounts from Jap Spec Z31 which ran the RB20DET, BUT..........the Z31 mounts are not in the best location for the RB25 in a 70-78 Zed, which means for optimal handling you should custom up some mounts to sit the engine back and lower? Dont suppose you have any pics of your engine mounts? Get sump & pickup from Jap Spec Z31 RB20DET and swap this over onto my RB25 (which is a straight swap, no mods needed) therefore the engine sump is rear mounted and dosent hit the crossmember? Gearbox Crossmember: Use the Box from the GTS-T R33 Skyline, but you have to make up your own gearbox-crossmember, Because.............the original L-Series wont mate with the new GTS-T gearbox and the new GTS-T gearbox crossmember wont bolt straight up to the old gearbox body mounts on the Zed, So gotta do some fabrication to get em to fit? Do you have any pics of this? Tailshaft: If you use the Z31 mounts you can use the original tailshaft, no mods required, is this correct? But if you use custom mounts and sit the engine lower and closer to the firewall you will need to shorten the tailshaft? I know it must suck after a while answering all these questions, but i just wanted to make certain mate
  3. Just been reading through these posts and have a few questions, If i want to install an RB25/26/30 engine into my Zed all i would have to do is (this is just to get the engine in place), Get the sump&pickup from an Rb20Det (from a Z31) and then install that onto my RB 25/26/30 engine - now i have a rear mounted sump, so the sump wont hit the cross-member, Then i either, Use the stock RB motor mounts (but this sits the engine kinda high and forward - so not probably the best position) or Make them myself, or Buy them pre-maid, there is a mob in Australia who sells mounts for an RB30 to Zed - these mounts would still work with Rb25's & Rb26's as they are still the same family of engine, so externally they are still pretty much the same bloc? ie.........engine mounts still in the same place?
  4. Any aussies in here who have managed to put a SBC into their Zed?
  5. Tim240z, The L-26 in my Zed is offest towards the left if you are looking at it from the front of the car, ie..........towards the drivers-side, which would be the passenger side on US Zeds,
  6. Just to clarify on the 350chevy, Pretty much all 350's made from about 1967 untill about 1996 were pretty much the same, ie.......externally they were identical? Like sump is right at the back of the block and engine mounts are pretty close to the front? And this is the SBC that JTR use for their conversions? I want to go EFI and there is different versions of the 350......... TBI, Vortec, LT1??? LT1 were early to mid 90's SBC's that had sequential multi-point fuel injection, rear mounted sumps and the correct engine mount positions on the block - so this SBC would be ideal if i wanted to go EFI and use a JTR type of kit, or a kit designed for the early 350chevy? Just stay away from LS1's as they are different externally from the early 350chevy?
  7. Not sure what S# my Zed is, its a 1974 260z Just curious as a i saw a late 80's nissan pintara (looks like the R31 Skyline) with the front end steering and suspension from a mid-late 90's 200sx, the guy said it was almost a straight swap, But the ages of the cars are alot closer than a 260z,
  8. Just curious, But has anyone pulled the steering and suspension setup out of newer model nissan like a "200sx" and whacked it into a 240, 260z?
  9. I'll measure it tomorrow and see, I've spoken to a few local folks and i've found out that i can get a locally kit to fit a 350chevy or a 308 Holden V8 motor (holden being a subsiduary of GMH), For about $250AUS, BUT - i need to find a chevy 350 with a rear mounted sump right? than i shouldnt have to make any sump mounts??? (is this right?) They said they mount the engine about a 1" of the firewall, so this seems to be pretty far back in the engine bay - but i asked them if they had never heard of JTR, and they hadnt, so i assume they just figured out what fitted best themselves, Can check em out at www.castlemainerodshop.com.au, One little problem i have come across is price though, Lots of people sell different versions of the 350chevy smallblock, but what im after is an LT1, so i can go fuel injection cheaply and easily, But so far ive found nothing under $5000 AUS, and was quoted $8000AUS for a LT1 with 200miles, T-56, wiring harness and ECU, 350's seem a tad expensive over in Australia though, at the moment $1US = $.78AUS, dont know if this is what you guys in the US are playing??? Just expecting pretty much a front cut for the $3000-$3500 mark
  10. What is required to get the VH45DE to fit into a 240/260Z? Do you need to custom up a sump?
  11. I think i will buy the book, the folks at JTR said they dont have any knowledge of how i would swap a 350chev into a right-handed Z, but im sure i can still learn alot from the information contained in the manual, So, You can swap the spacers around, left-to-right and vise-versa, to mount the engine in, Stuff like tailshaft, radiator and exhaust is no big drama as can be fabricated all fairly easily, Wiring will be straight forward if i go carby, lots of fun if i go EFI, Someone told me i would have to for REGO install larger front rotors - but this seems like a good idea anyway Pretty much any 350chevy will fit, more a question of whether to go carby or EFI, If i go carby, Go alloy intake, gear reduction starter, alloy radiator, headers.....etc....etc and ill find that there isnt a huge different in weight from the L-series Get stronger springs for the front What about the gearbox crossmember that JTR sell? would this still be suitable for me?
  12. Thats for the help guys, Holdens i think the sell Gen111 5.7 all alloy 350chev now, but i think we are just about to see gen4 6.0l chevy's, Before that im pretty sure holden made their own V8's, the 253 & 308.........not 100% sure, But because everyone owns a holden there are lots and lots of places who sell 350chevs
  13. Was thinking about sticking a V8 into my 260z, looked at getting a Chevy 350motor, but...........im really into mopars and would love to stick to MOPARS, so was thinking of either a 318 or 360 engine, Was thinking............... The sump position of the 360 passenger cars (pre-magnum) is bang smack in the middle of the block (well slightly to the front) and in Australian Chryslers (all variants of the A bodies from the States) the sump had to sit between the K frame at the front and the drag link at the back, so its probably not to different to where the L-24, L-26, L-28 sumps sit in, So, i figure you would pretty much just have to fabricate some engine mounts to sit the motor in place, And because the Z dosent have a torsion bar front like the Chryslers, sticking, for example a Tremec behind the 360 shouldnt require hacking the living daylights outta the trans tunnel to get it to fit, so there would be the easier possibility of running an over-drive box without to many fabrication dramas,
  14. Hello, first post and i was wondering if i could get some info of you guys, Ive got a 1974 260z and im interested in putting in a 350chevy motor, just not 100% certain about how i would go about it, Have a few questions, I live in Australia so i drive a right-hand Z, would the kits flogged of by Jags-That-Run be suitable for Right-Hand-Drive cars? The 350chev has been made for about 40years which one exactly would i be using with the JTR kit? ie.....has sump position changed, is the block different externally now than it was in older versions of the 350? Because its a heavier motor does this cause weight distributions problems (even after you set it a quarter-inch of the firewall, use gear reduction starter, alloy heads ect?) Thanks in advance
