  1. You can stillget those new from nissan.I have an 80 and just bought one for $110.00, about 2mnths. ago.
  2. Hey there David, finished mine about two weeks ago.Let's start with the front:I took the 280zx hub milled the rotor mounting bolt bosses down to 0, but didn't touch the rear snout of the bub since that dia. is the same for the 300 vented 5-lug rotor. I heated the 300 rotor up on a 100watt light buld making the center exspnd and installed the rotor after cooling I drilled and tapped the rotor mounting bolt holes and used the stock bolts 'cause of the shoulder that they have, and this would help hold the rotor steady also. Then I transfered the 5-4.5 lug pattern, tapped 1/2-20 and installed moroso studs.the 280zx-300zx calipers are the same as far as piston dia. goes, but I did use the 300's because I used the 300 caliper brket.I found that I was able to use 1 of the 280zx brkt. mnt. holes at the strut and simply drilled and tapped a new hole at the top bolt, and use the 300 pads.I have seince found out tht the 240-280zx have the sme offset and I'm trying to order a set of alim. hubs. The rear was just as head scathing:I redilled the 300 axles because the the org. holes are 12mm. to big to safly tap 1/2",I found that some 300's have a 1/4" spacer on the flange end of the axle, you need these to be able to install the axle, seems to be a 1/4" diff. between the 300 and 280zx and these take care of that(can't get the copan. flange down tight with-out them).I used 87-turbo vented rear rotor. Had to fab a cal mounting brket to bolt to the controll arm. This brkt. could be welded like the factory, but I change so much so often I chose to drill and tap the dust sheild bolt holes to 7/16" and used #8 hardware to attach them. and used the 300 rear cals. Now I just need to fab up the brkt. for the e-brake. I will get pics. soon waiting on a good deal on a dig. camera.
  3. When you look at the NS picture you will see the #4 tube drops sraight down, that tube will not allow the power rack to work 'cause it hits the input shaft.I tried to install the header with the power and non-power racks installed, it will not install. You can get bolted to the head and it will clear all 3 x-members(power,non-power racks and box) but the racks will not install afterwards. The box will install but the pitman arm about half way thru the turn to the left it hits THE TUBE. Looked at the tubes for 5 days and it does not look as if you changed the problem tube it still wouldn't be enough 'cause the steering link for the 'racks' would hit 3 of the other tubes, but it could work with the box. I taled to the tech guy a 2nd time after all this and he still say that it will work....NOT. This header appears to be designed for the early cars with front steer, or having the racks mounted in the front of the x-members.I called Sthal, and the tech guy there said there 280zx header will work with nonpower box only. Then I called Pacesetter, and they said their haeder will work with all 4 steering set-ups, but no square ports for the 79-83. So they are going to send me pics. of the early car and late car headers side by side, if the tubes are the same, I'm gonna get the header for the early car 'cause of the 'square' ports (I have a p90head). And pacesetter says that the headers have 1 5/8" tubes and 2.5 collectors, should work pretty good.I also called hussler and a couple other custom header places and they wanted $1200-1500 to build a header!!!!! but to answer your ? it will not work, If it would make you feel better you can call Courtsey Nissan and ask for Matt, He worked with me for about 3 weeks to get this header to work and he can tell ya what I just did here, 'cause I told him all this and sent back 2 headers the 1.75 and 1.65 both do not work in the 280zx.Keep p with me here and I will let you know which way I go, seems like the pacesetter will be it.I know that all this seems to be a lot of babble but I did try fir the better of all of Z-kind!!!
  4. Well the $400.00 header from NISSAN MOTORSPORTS #1142 does not fit the 79-83 280ZX. It fit 's the frame, but there is no way to get the power rack, the power box, or the man. rack on their respective cross members, it JUST DOESN'T WORK! So much for nissan's top tech guy. So without me building another header who offer's a good quality off the shelf header. MSA, PACE, and VB are all 1.5" and I belive they are all the same manfacturer, that's too small anyway. Who has the 1.75 or 1.65?? Come on fellas.....
  5. NS does have another header, but it has only 1.5" tubes also.I have tomuch engine for that.I have 1.75" sthal, but this header fits 240-280Z's only. I've tried every trick to get these two headers to work- 'sept cutting the problem tube and rewelding.I'll be in Knoxville till sunday, so I can't even check the non-power set-up.I still have the BOX, in storage, but I wonder if the tube will hit the drag link, at lest the rack input would be out of the picture, which is where the problem exsist's.I should have hung on to my home-made header.Do you have a box or rack on your car?
  6. Yea, my car 1980, came with sterring box, then I swapped for 1983 power rack. The first header I had I made, it was for the BOX and at that time noone had a header for the BOX.So while doing the 4th. recarnation I swap to the rack 'cause of the multitude of avaible headers. But after checking everyone out their tubes are 1.5", and I can't get a sraight ansewer from pace or msa on their's as far as tube size, and I need square ports now.I touhgt that the year diffs., would have been for the emission fittings, so I'm sorry if it sounded like I blasted you, I asked for help and you were just adding info.THANKS.
  7. No, THEY, NISSAN MOTORSPORTS, make 2 race headers for the 280ZX, 1 5/8" or 1 3/4". I have 1 3/4" chrome. The headers are not yr. specific. Even the top tech. guy at Nissan mtrsprt. could not ansewer the ?, the statement I got was "Don't use with power str." So I visited the Z-BARN today and got a man. rack and x-mem. Let's see if that works.
  8. Can someone show me pictures of their 280zx with power rack, with a 1 3/4" tube header installed?? I just cant get mine past the input shaft of the power rack. And my NEW Nissan Motorsports (280zx specific) will not fit due to #3 tube.
  9. You Can, If The Cylinders Are Worn Close To Very Worn Out Specs. To Try And Hone Alot Of Mat. Would Be Detrimetal To The Stones And Alot Of Heat In The Bore.
  10. 10x1.0 You Can Easily Tap To 1/8"sae
  11. I Have 2 Sets, You Price Them Plus Shipping And We Both Can Make Some $$
  12. I myself am using 300 axles and rotors,on the rear. But my first 5lug set up was a set of drilled 280 axles and rotors, this set-up worked everyday for 8 yrs,and yes their is one stud in the rear set-up that looks a little close to the edge, but i had no problems with this. the main 2 resons that i choose the 300 set-up are:The 300 axle is bigger at the wheel flange(but the outer dia. of the brg. is the same. no need to fear they swap) and i didnt have to drill and tap any holes, just add the nissan motor sports longer studs.upTo ansewer one question:use the non-vented rotor but turn it down to the 280 dia. and you can use your 280 caliper,,,if the car is an 82-83. question 2:use any 300 5-lug axle,(z31) but use the painted black dust shield comp. flange, this one is the same depth as the 280 cv flange.the other ones are too deep. You need to use 280zx axles or 300 short-side cv axles(pass. side)'cause there is no 300 u-joint type comp. flange out there. If you want to use u-joint type axles you must drill 280zx axles.
  13. Hey I'm Doing That Swap Now. Give Me Till Sat. And Ican Give The Info You Need On The Braket. As Far As The Caliper Goes Look At The 2 Side By Side.... They Are The Same Sept For The Brk. Hose. Dont Worry About Changing To The 300 Single Piston, Are You Using The 300 Bub?? If You Are Than You Know That You Will-be Moving The Center Of The Wheel To The Outside Of The Car About 3/4". This Dosent Matter As Long As You Know,,, And You Need To Get A Wheel That Doesnt Have A Centered Off-set.when You Do The Rear You Need 2-300 Axles 2- Black Companion Flanges And 2-280zx C-v Axles. Dont Worry About The Size Of The Outter Brg, The Are A Swap, But You Must Use The 300's Tapered Brg. Sleeve Then You Use The 300 Non-vented Rotor After You Turn The Outside Dia. Down To Match The 280's And Bingo You Have A 280zx 5-lug Almost Bolt-in. This Works On The 82-83. 79-81 You Must Drill The 280 Rotor 5-lug Or Make Caliper Brkts To Use 300 Rotors. (this Is What I Have Done To The Rear Of My '80zx) Hope Tis Helps.
  14. Hey If You Want To Check Out Cool Suspenion Stuff For Your Car Chekout Techno Toy Tuning, Man.....they Have What You Need. I Know I Have Some Of Ther Stuff.
  15. I Have Ran 15x10 And 16x10 Centerlines On The Rear Of My '80 Zx. Those Are Both With A 5' Back Spacing. Up Front I Run 15x8 Close But No Rubbin.
  16. The Oil Squirted From This Little Hole Also Oiles The Cylinder-wall. Most Race Preped Rods Are Peened Or Dimpled Closed. Mine Are And I Have Bushed Rods. You Can Also Check This Out In 'how To Modify You Datsun/nissan' Good Book.
  17. I Dont Know Body Series, But The Car Is An '80 280zx. I Rechecked All Parts This Week-end And Found That The Black Dust Flange Is The Same Hights And Depths As The 280 Turbo Cv Flanges. I Still Have Not Figured Out Why My Cv Axle Didnt Fit In. May-be Because A-arm Hanging To Low On Jack-stand. But Give Me A Couple Of Days(i Work Long Hours) And I Will Have The Rear Figured Out.
  18. I Know I'm A Little Late Here But I Just Found This. I Have Used 300 Axles. The Bearings Are Not The Problem, They Will Inter-change. There Are Narrow And There Are Wide. Dia. Are The Same As 280zx Inner And Outer. The Only Dif. Is Outer Insde Due To Taper, But They Still Swap. You Must Use The 300 Brg. Spacer, Due To Taper. It To Is The Same Thick-ness As The 280. Even The Comp. Fange Is A Swap For The 280 Cv. Buttttttttt The The 300 Is About 2 Inches Wider Than The 280 (the Rear Susp.) That Makes The 280 Cv About 1in..100 To Long. I Know I Have Been Chacing This For 2months. If The 300 Flange Can Be Sectioned And Welded Back, Can This Handle Any Kind Of Crediable Hp? I Dont Know, But I Am Doing It Next Week. Oh Yea There Are Three Diff. 300 Flanges One Is The Big Cv With 4 Bolts, One With Gold Dust Flange And The Shortest Is The One With Black Dust Flange. This Is The One That I Tried First, I Am Going To Cut A Long One (gold Flange) And Tig It Back Together. If This Looks Good Than I Will Move To The Caliper Mount Which Is Not Much More Than Just A 4 Hole Brkt. To Mve The Cal. Out. The Front Is Not So Bad Exceptttt Hud Moves Wheel Outside Of Car 7/8 In. Cant Use 300 Strut Cause Spindle Is Moved 1in. Forward In Fender Ie It Is Not In Center Of Sturt Like 280.i Hope This Helps. Any Just Ask. Cause I Am Doing Or Have Done It.
