I am looking to do aftermarket seats in my 280Z as well, what seats did you go with?

I won't spoil it for everyone else but that was great! I tough ebay censors were all over that kind of stuff. I misses it the first time I looked at the pics, had to go back for a second pass and then WHAMOO hit me in the face like bad gas! Funny!

The 8.8 swap is not that bad, we did it on our drag car with Jegs SS ladder bars, Jegs track rod and cross member kits, competition engineering coil overs and a 8.8 from a 1993 Mazda B4000 4x4. We had the rear narrowed to narrowed 54.5" flange to flange and used two drivers side axles that put the pumpkin almost dead center in the tunnel. We are running 15 X 10 rims with ZG flares that look simply bad-ass! We did not tub it and are running 29 X 11.50 X 15 slicks out back. Pics in this thread. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=119147

Thanks man, we had been busting our buts to get this thing on the track. It felt good to get it out there and let it stretch it's legs a bit. As for the NOS, sorry man.......we are NA all the way!

We finally took it to the track this last Friday for it's shakedown runs. Best time was 12.8 @ 109. This was without any tuning and since I forgot the timing light we could not get the timing set either. Found out that we are running lean, but not so lean as to be breaking up on the top end. We are also battling the stock converter that is WAAAAY too tight for our motor. My 60 foot times were in the 2.1 to 2.6 second range, it really bogs out of the hole. Sorry I did not get any photos, left the camera at home along with a whole bunch of other stuff! Next step is to get the carb sorted out and try it again, this time I will remember all the tools I need!

I went to a local drive shaft shop and had a new shaft made. I supplied the front yoke and they made the rest for about $200.00 including tax and labor. This was with new solid ujoints and a Ford 8.8 rear flange. I would have a new shaft made with your front yoke and get the Datsun to Chevy rear flange as mentioned above. Any good drive shaft shop should be able to get it for you.

Sounds like a nice combo, let us know how the t-56 goes. I was looking into putting one of those in my street car. Also some photos would be cool too!

I had been posting progress our drag car project in the Ford V8 forum (because it's got a Ford in it ) but I figured I would post a link to the tread and my web album here as well. Here is our build thread: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=119147 Here is a link to my web album with all of our progress photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/eric.harrald/HybridZPhotos Enjoy! Thanks man! Yeah, I like the Cobra valve covers too but these were free! And the air cleaner was a last minuet compromise due to clearance issues with our MSD distributor. We had a pretty wicked ware leak from the t-stat housing so it is torn apart right now. Should have it back together this weekend to finish up the wiring and start assembly of the body panels. Also, I should get my drive shaft today from the shop. Had them make a new custom shaft, it was actually cheaper than having the one I got shortened. I will snap some more pics this weekend and post them for sure! Later.

Hey MY77Z, sorry I have not been able to get you the drawing of our cross member yet. It is really very simple, I will try to take some measurements and see if I can bust our something in MS Paint tonight for ya. thanks for the good comments, much appreciated. Eric

Hey, what is going to be left after you are finished? I may be interested, I am local as well (Elk Grove).

Got the motor trans in today and interior painted the other day. Had to rework the steering after we installed the motor with the headers, but it all worked out. Coming up next week we will start the wiring and alternator mount, should be fun. Here are some pics of our progress, enjoy.

OK guys here is the latest progress on our project. Well we got the body work as good as it was going to get and put up a temporary spray booth in my garage to shoot some color on the car. Turned out OK, we were going for the 50/50 look so as long as the car is moving or your 50 feet away it looks pretty darn good! Now we can get back to the fun stuff, putting it back together and getting it running. Here are some photos I this last weekend, enjoy.

Well we have been hot and heavy on the body work but as of late life has been keeping us away from the project a bit. No new pics for now but as soon as I get the 1/2" of sanding dust cleaned off of everything I will take some more. We are getting close, as soon as we get the car painted we will make the big push to get it running! (I can't wait to hear that motor sing man!). Well thats all for now.

Congrats! San Diego should be real nice this month. I graduated from platoon 2134 Golf Company in June 1994 and it was HOT standing out there on the parade deck in my Alphas! What MOS is he going to school for?

Yeah, we are going to have to cut about three inches out of the rear wheel arches to clear the suspension at full compression. We decided to tackle the roll pan first then move on to the flares. Even with the flares the slicks will still stick out about 1/2" or so. We almost went with 12.5" wide tires but changed our minds when we went to order them.
-
That was our thoughts exactly! I got the idea from a NASCAR race I went to and the engine bay was grey, though it looks clean so off to the home center for some grey Rustolium. The firewall actually did not need to be cut for motor clearance, there was some rust in the fender well under the battery tray that ended up taking out a 18' section of the firewall. We just started the bodywork, we decided to fabricate a new rear roll pan because ours was soooooooo bad. I will post some more pics soon.

Thanks man, we have been working our tails off on this thing. Even though it is going to be a track only car, I still want it to look good. As for the cross member, we built it ourselves. We were heavily influenced by some of the other SBF projects though. We just hung the motor in the hole and started cutting and fitting until we had a cross member. Took a couple hours. I will have some more photos in a few.

Hatch floor question . Cutting it for a fuel cell
er34gtt2000jp replied to gretchen/jason's topic in Fabrication / Welding
Here is what we did on my drag car project. Basically I cut out the entire floor between the frame rails in the hatch floor. I cut from the cross member between the shock towers back to the cross member under the tail lights. Then I took 1" X 1" square tubing and made a frame for my battery box and fuel cell. This also serves as the mounting area for the flue pump and filter. Currently we are working on a "dog house" to cover it all that will have the top open on a hinge. This was all without cutting any frame members. For reference the aluminum "dog house" is 17" x 34" and we are using a 5 gallon fuel cell the is about 13" x 13" x 8" Here are some photos. Hope this helps.
