    Q45 Vlsd!

I believe the 6 bolt cv's were on both diffs in certain cars but I have an r230 and have a simple way of identification. Put a known r200 beside it and the r230 absolutly dwarfs the r200. It is clearly bigger no doubt.
  2. As for wich head, here an rb25 head is worth around $1000-1500au and an rb26 head around $2000-2500au. The stock intake on the rb26 is pretty good and also convenient but I could not go to the huge amount of trouble for this swap only to use the crappy, inconvenient rb25 intake. An aftermarket intake goes for around $1000-1500au. So my logic says go for the rb26 head. Plus its better.
  3. I would personally drop the power fc in favor for a stand alone. I will be using a Haltech for mine but there are quite a few other brands that offer as much, all of wich offer more tuning capabillities than the power fc. Here in australia a Haltech fully fitted and tuned on a dyno is around $2000au. A Power fc is around $1500au fitted and tuned. I believe they are popular in japan because of price and availability there compared to the stand alones. Most of them are made here though so I dont know what there worth where you are.
  4. I dont really know the details of the differences but there is a hp diff between all three. They each had a little more power than the last. Officially they are rated at the same power but with more torque than than each others predecessor. As far as I know the differences arn't major just mainly camshaft profiles, turbos and tuning. Also imo if its not a problem to go a standalone computer then I would do it. It will give you more tuning options and should give a hp increase.
  5. j.soileau is right, r32 and r33 gtr's are 5 speed only. 6 speed is only on the r34.
  6. I am in the process of the same mod for my 240 except im using a front sump type from an rb30 (much cheaper and easier to get here) very modified. It has the same flange pattern as your rb20 sump. What I did was grind out just enough from the inside of the flange for the pickup flange to clear it. It has to be done carefully though as if you take too much there wont be enough meat between the bolt hole and the inside for the gasket to seal. So only take exactly enough to clear. Then weld in a patch of metal. You will have to be somewhat competent with a welder and grinder to attempt this as the welding area will only be thin. Afterwards clean it up with a die grinder so the face where the gasket will touch is smooth and flat and there is enough room for the bolt heads to clear. Probably easiest to use allen head bolts for at least these two that are affected . Where the pickup tube fouls on the bottom of the sump will also need to be cut out and a patch welded in that sits higher to clear the tube. Sorry I have no pics as yet but will try to have some on the weekend if I have time.
  7. I was just letting you know their worth here so you dont getted some BS about them being hard to find here too and them giving you a higher price. I wasnt saying you payed too much just letting hat1324 know not to pay anymore than $300au. Every $ saved is helpul especially considering the cost of the freight on top.
  8. Im an aussie and rb30 non-turbo engines are very plentiful here. There would be easily 6 or 7 complete motors at each of the 3 wreckers close to me. $300au is on the high side for a short motor here. Would pay this at most for a complete motor. The turbo rb30 however isn't so common and imo are well overpriced from what ive seen. they are getting pretty old now and most would need rebuilding anyway so a non turbo is the way to go. just giving some local knowledge on the subject so some aussie wrecker doesnt BS you.
  9. i dont know the weight but i have moved around by hand a 240z tub (bare shell no doors, susp, guards etc) with only the help of one other person should'nt be too hard with 4 of you.
  10. does anyone know who sells kaaz or cusco mechanical lsd's, in australia preferably, please answer anyway if outside oz. for r230 out of 300zxtt. sorry i posted twice it was accidental
  11. ive been looking into using a skyline hub assembly as a possible means of solving the weak stub axle issue with 240z's ( im still considering some of the other options i've seen here aswell) the strut mount and arm mounts all seem to be part of a bolt on piece that could be replaced with a custom piece with arm mounts to suit the 240z arm. i want to have coilovers so was thinking how about using the eye/bolt lower mount type coilover instead of the solid perch type the 240 has. this type would allow the bottom of the coilover to pivot. the skyline has a multilink irs setup as opposed to the Z setup. would this movement of the bottom of the coilover affect anything.
  12. im looking at using the r230 diff and cv's from a '90 - '96 300zxtt. the reason for this and not a r200 is that they are a hell of a lot easier to find here in australia than the old 300zxt '84 - '89. i will be using the r230, inner cv's from 4 shafts, custom axles and billit adapters. i think i have my head around the swap finally except for the following; does anyone know of aftermarket centres for the r230 like lockers and semi lockers etc? and if i used the rear brakes from the 300 could i use the stub axles aswell and would this negate the need for the adapter plates? has anyone used different stub axles and is there much involved in the swap? also does anyone know what the Q45 is known as in australia?
  13. so this setup is for the r230 from the 300zx tt 89' on, right? are there aftermarket centres available for this diff?
  14. i want to upgrade my rear end to a r200/r230 diff and cv joints for my 240z. ive been reading the threads and links on these but im still a little confused. what is the best [easiest] combination. what car do i get the r200 from for the easiest conversion. the 280zx and z31 300zx turbos dont seem very common here in queensland [been looking in wreckers for them, cant find any]. is the r230 from the 300zxtt and is this a difficult swap. i have access to cheap 300zxtt rear end and im willing to pay for some custom work. also are the centres interchangeable between different models of r200 and which ones have ratios of between 3.7 ~ 4.11
  15. hi, just started my project, a 240z with a rb26. my original plan was a rb25 turbo 5 speed. got prices of between $1500 and $2000 aus. this seems expensive. wanted to hear what gearbox others have used or prices you've seen rb25 turbo 5 speeds for in australia. engine will have a single gt35/40 high mount plus many other mods and expect 400hp+ @ the wheels.
