  1. This is not true the vg30dett box is the same as the '25 and '26 and '30ET it just has a different bellhousing which is intercahangeble with these RB boxes
  2. Weighed mine when I bought it before I stripped it and put it on the rottisserie (where it is now) '71 240z as it was from the factory except 260 motor, no spare and 10liter of fuel and no me 1000kg (2200lbs) F-540kg R-460kg
  3. I have done the '26 bellhousing on a vg30dett swap. The shifter is in almost the same position as the '25, it looks extended but actually comes through in almost the exact same position approx 1 to 2 inches difference at most. What engine is the z31 box from? Hope this helps, there are only a few different later model nissan boxes they just have different bellhousings which are interchangeble. The two main groups are group 1 (CA, SR, FJ, RB20) and group 2 (VG30, RB 25,26). Parts from group 1 interchange with each other but not with group 2 and vice versa. The only way I know of to get rid of the VG30 linkeage is to use a '25 box, maybe get a broken one (if possible) and use the VG or '26 internals. I don't know what group the VG20 box or earlier VG30 boxes belong to as I have never seen one before (not common over here). But there is an obvious size difference between boxes from group 1 and those from 2 so if you saw one of these you could guess which group they belong too quite easily. The other less common way is to cut the transfer case off the GTR box take out the transfer gears and weld a plate over the hole. Costs $800au over here.
  4. 1. My RB26 240Z 2. My RB26 240Z 3. My RB26 240Z 4. My RB26 240Z 5. '63 Ferrari 250GTO (red) 6. '06 BMW M3 CSL 7. '91 Daihatsu Feroza 8. '87 Porche 930 turbo or original Cobra Daytona coupe. Why: Beautiful!!!
  5. Well I am looking at a power steering conversion for my RB26 240 and have been looking at the options others have used on this site that sound good. However I want a quick ratio and want to know the ratios of the racks others have used and the ratios of the s13 and r32, r33 skylines. I also happen to have been given a TRW "quick rack" power steering rack for free. It was referred to as that by the person who gave it to me. Now the TRW rack doesnt bolt straight in and will require some mods to the crossmember but is almost identicle in its width and pivot points of the tie rods. If the TRW rack is a "quick rack" I am prepared to do the mods if it will be worth it. Below are all the markings I found on the TRW rack so if anybody could help with some specs, or where to find them, on the TRW rack or any of the others it would be much appreciated. TRW 70 21873 R26N CAM GEARS DIV 23-47 AYD6033 KC P47-19 FB3349 Also it took 2.75 turns lock to lock when out on the floor.
  6. I use 0.8 mm flux wire on a 120 amp SIP welder with good results. I use flux for cost and simplicity reasons. Although gas and thinner wire would be better suited I have no real issues with blow through and the beads can be kept small and neat when welding non-structural sheet as the weld doesnt have to be super strong. Just takes some practice and patience. Get some scrap and practice, practice, practice.
  7. Funny you used that example, thats simillar to what i have done. I had a plate machined (to replace the part that the GTR hub bolts to and the upper and lower arms bolt to) which was made to accept bolt on coilovers from a GTiR and rose jointed lower control arms and made a diff mount for the GTR diff and am getting shortend axles made. Should handle 600+hp, should be bulletproof with my 450hp.
  8. RB25 manuals are hard to get here aswell so what I did was get a 300zxtt and a GTR box and had a shop swap bellhousings, cost $80. The internals are the same between all three of these except some different ratios. The GTR box came with my RB26 and I got the 300 box cheap so this was easy for me, but here in aus a GTR box sells for around $500 and a 300zxtt box around $1000 and an RB25 box is around $1500 so the price is simillar anyway and you have a spare set of internals. The shifter is a little further back on the 300zxtt box than the RB25 but that suited my car better anyway.
  9. I have just started this swap also and had a question, if I were to shorten the subframe by 4 - 5 inches (the max that I can) how does this affect the clearance for the coilover on the body and on the upper control arm.
  10. my count says 4 for haltech and 0 for microtech (including my vote)
  11. I agree to an extent but if you keep a turbo motor close to stock especially stock ecu then it will be similar upkeep to an 8. But since you posted in the v8z forum I think I know where your heart lies:burnout:
  12. All these skylines use an R200 diff the same as silvias and 300z's and many other nissans. Type R200 in the search bar and you will find nearly everything there is to know.
  13. I got a R200 from a GTR today with 4.11 ratio clutch type lsd and 6 bolt output. The front GTR R180 is also 4.11. Also the output stub axles on the GTR R200 are larger than the regular 5 bolt R200's.
  14. I have 4 R200's and an R230 in my garage these are their ratios: R200 short nose viscous lsd 4.08 s13 silvia x2 5 bolt shafts R200 short nose viscous lsd 4.08 '89+ 300zx n/a 5 bolt shafts R200 short nose viscous lsd 4.36 R32 skyline 5 bolt shafts R230 short nose viscous lsd 3.69 '89+ 300zxtt 6 bolt shafts
  15. The R180 I had in my '71 240 was a 3.90 open
  16. your pan is looking awesome, but are you going to cover the pickup area, I thought the crank would affect it without any baffle
  17. I like the swap too! I thought about using an FJ in mine for quite a while (till the '26 came up at the right time and price) I always liked the idea of the lower weight and keeping the engine behind crossmember.
  18. Do you know the name of that shop. I've been told Accurate Suspension at Underwood are good with zeds.
  19. Another option is to use a Supra turbo 5speed from the '93 supra turbo with a custom bellhousing. supra 5 speed $400au custom bellhousing $800au The supra isnt quite as strong as the 25 but if you break either one the supra will be cheaper to replace. 25 5 speed $1500-2500au. The supra gearbox is regularly used on 400hp+ cars here without a problem. rodshop.com.au and malwoodautomotive.com.au both have these kits in stock.
  20. The term "standalone" was just my termanology to distinguish between a plugin and a full standalone. If you use a plugin you will have to find a stock harness around $600- 900au here. Any good tuner should be able to get by fairly easily without a base map. The base map would only be usefull if you were going to tune it youself, not something I would attempt on a high powered turbo. The power fc just simply doesnt compare to a proper standalone in its tuning capabillities. And the end price difference between the two options is minimal. Also would the power fc have a base map for a hybrid engine.
  21. I'd go with the rb30de combo. I've always thought a high comp, valocity stacks, tuned extractors and dohc N/A rb of any type would sound absolutly amazing. I'd go for the extra cubic inches for the power though maybe even stroke and bore the rb30. I also want to do this build for a 240z in a few years
