  1. i've toyed with a lot of engine ideas since buying the car. i was planning to get this motor set up to run turbo later on(would run a higher compression head in the mean time). out of all the swaps i've thought about, turbo L28 and sbc have been the most appealing. and after carefull deliberation, i've desided to go back to my roots and get a sbc. but i'm not gona do that till much later, if i ever get to it. i just figure while i'm rebuilding this motor(240k, dying), might as well do some cheap hp gains. yes this may seem impractical to some, spending $$ on a motor i'm just going to get rid of, it fits my situation better at this point.
  2. i'll keep that in mind if i deside to bore it. if it doesn't need to be bored then i'll just go with the euro's and a P-79/P-90. thanx for all the imput everyone.
  3. thank you for for clearing that up BRAAP. it sounds like that P-79 or P-90 are just what i'm after. my dad and i just pulled the motor today and it'll be in the shop getting rebuilt for a few weeks. that will give me enough time to find one of those heads.
  4. i gess the person that told me the 10:1 wasn't very well informed, i'm still learning alot about these cars so i can't distingwish(sp?) some of those things yet. i've read that thread and still strugle with understanding it all. hold on a sec. BRAAP says that the MSA pistons won't do me any good, but DAW, u'r saying that i'd have to high of compression. that is, if i'm reading right. i'm pulling the motor out tomarow to run a rebuild. it'll be out for a week or 2 so i'd have time to track down a diff head.
  5. does anyone have experiance with these? MSA says they are flat top with a bit of a dome. how well would my stock 77' take to that? are they even worth buying? from what i understand, the 83' had a 10:1 compression. would i be better off just using that head and forgeting the pistons? i've done a bunch of reading about heads and compression but i'm still a bit confused.
  6. i have a friend that thinks Supras are unbeatable in everything. it is imposible to change his mind, no matter what kind of valid proof u show him. i think he needs a convertable.
  7. it dosen't say what setup they are, i.e. top, side, or front mount.
  8. did anyone ever get a pic of this manifold? i looked at some old posts but the pics are dead.
  9. tightens the turning radius. a guy on the s12 board put some s14 arms on his s12, the car looks like it can almost turn on itself. i don't want something that drastic, just a sharper turn over stock.
  10. are their any front arms that are longer than stock that will just bolt up with no mods? how diff is the s30 front suspension vs. the 240sx front?
  11. i hope u'r right, cause that will be awsome. i've been thinkin that a tad overbore would be a good idea since the engines at 160k and was beat up pretty good.
  12. thanx for the imput. i was just thinkin about it workin. i'll deffinatly not go that route if i can ever afford to do an RB. but with my crapy income, RB26 prolly won't be nearly as much $$ by the time i can afford it. lol
  13. i already read thro the RB section and didn't find this. if the rb20 and 25 blocks are the same, could i buy a 20 and just put 25 forged internals in it? since the 20 is much cheaper than the 25, i was thinkin this might save $$, and make same power as the 25 with the forged bottom end. just a thought tho.
  14. what kind of flares are those on the S30? and were can i get a set?
  15. dang, those flares look awsome on the FB. i'll have to tell my friend. yes, please keep us posted on the project. i've become quite fond of the FB as of late.
  16. those are the stock MKI hatchback tail lights. USDM that is. MKI coupe(notchback) tails. the first pic is the USDM tails. the last pic is the AUS spec, not sure if it's j-spec aswell. http://www.club-s12.org/board/showthread.php?t=8889&page=2&pp=15 MKI euro spec hatch tails http://www.club-s12.org/board/showthread.php?t=10711 MKII tails. the same on both hatch and notch. it's my buddies car. came stock with the vg30e. mkII with the SE trim had them. he's asked me to post pics everywere i can. WARNING: 56K DEATH!! http://www.club-s12.org/board/showthread.php?t=10489 a bit more info than needed but it never hurts to know. on a side note: MKI is 84-86. MKII is 87-88. 86 can be an odd one tho. they started fazing out the MKI so some of the 86 cars have a mix between MKI and MKII, known as MK1.5.
  17. yeah, cause the ca18det was a stock option motor at one point. the MKII RSX had the ca18det.
  18. the euro spec tail's? can u get some pics? i'd like to see them. the turbo hood is a rare find. i think it was only offered in 84 and not all turbo's had them. have u looked at the coilovers that Bartco makes? i think $610 for all 4. great deal. about the engine mounts in the car, u should post on the forum. cause i too have read that new monts need to be made.
  19. ok. does the L28 disel crank provide a longer stroke than stock? that makes sence since it's in a stroker kit. cause i was thinkin, just get the l24 rods and the disel crank and save some bucks and get just a bit more power rather than addin the bore aswell. is that a good idea?
  20. have u cheked out club-s12.org? a few guys have done the sr swap and u can pick their brains a bit. that fmic setup isn't too bad. one of the older guys has one that sits at the bottom of the bumper cover, and is only as tall as the opening. performs great.other than the paint, it looks like it's in great shape. good luck with the project, always nice to see an s12 getting fixed up rather than crushed.
  21. whats the size diff between the l28 and l24 rods? that stroker kit says it uses l24 rods.
  22. thanx for all the input. i've desided to do it a pice at a time. it'll be easyer on the walet that way. the MSA performance pistons when i run the quick rebuild in a few weeks, then later i'll do head work, intake, header. i have thought about turbo, but after the last turbo project i did, i'd like something that wont involve changing the harness and ECU.
  23. will the 5th gear from the 280zx fit in the 280 5speed? i want to mix that with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd from the Datsun 1ton truck, and the stock s30 4th gear. it sounds like the first 4 gears will work from my readings. right?
