  1. I hate leaving my car at a shop. Never know what they are going to do. Good luck on everything Stony, I love that car.
  2. It all depends on what you are looking for. If you want to go big power, get the 25 tranny. If you aren't looking to go much over 450 hp, don't. I had a 20 tranny on my 25 and had no problems at all. Also, your prices are not far off, but don't for one second think thats all you are gonna spend. If you do, you'll be sorely disappointed. People who set a budget on a car build are always the ones that get frustrated and sell their car for little money. Plus you will need more. You forgot: 1. The motor mount kit. Gonna have to have that. 2. Radiator, thermostat and all related pieces for that. 3. Wiring for it all to run. Unless you can do that yourself. 4. Will need to drop the pan, flush the motor and other fun stuff related to a motor that has probably sat in a wrecking yard for a year or more, then sat on a dock in salt air and so on and so forth. 5. Water pump. Replace it now or suffer later like I did. 6. New clutch because your old one i'm sure isn't gonna be new so once again, replace now or suffer later. Thats just a start. Lets not forget all the wonderful little bolts you either lose, someone kicks all over the garage floor or are just plain missing. Plus get ready to spend long nights without the people who are your friend until there is car work to be done and make sure there is an all-night Autozone around you for the miriad of little things you are gonna need. Trust me, it's not as easy as ordering the motor set and setting it in. If it were, everyone would have one.
  3. I bet, that thing is super clean man. Still waiting for the diagnosis to find out what exactly is the problem with mine. I should know Wed.
  4. Well I would guess around another 4 grand or more to get everything correctly. There are some corners you can cut if you do work yourself. I would say 1000 to 2000 for the labor to do the install maybe more for the wiring splice in and that also depends on who you use but most people charge for custom work. Need the oil pan, can't remember what that was. Motor mounts will run you round 300 or so dollars I think, can get those in a kit too. Drive shaft is around 300 bucks, least mine was. Then you had better do the timing belt, water pump and tensioners if you don't want to be like me and have to tear the entire front end off the motor to do it inside the car. I used the 260Z rear end that came with the car. Figure in about 500 for misc stuff that you may either break or need to complete and there you have it. Getting the motor and transmission is just the start. Good luck and anyone on here feel free to add or subtract to my estimate if you remember stuff because I don't remember half my swap.
  5. Damm Rusty. That's some nice work. I got some engine work to do on mine, so after I see how extensive that is i'll start thinking of bigger mods. Forrest, yea the car was worth way more than I was asking for but I needed to get rid of it so I priced it right. A guy from Maryland is flying in Tuesday and driving it back. He laid a deposit on me and set his flight up so away it will go. I hate to see it go and wouldn't have thought about getting rid of it if I hadn't seen this car. It was by far the funnest car i've owned and i've owned alot. Someone got a hell of a deal. He should pop up on here soon i'm sure.
  6. I had one awhile back but it wasn't anything special. Here's the one I just got. It's pristine. Should lay down right at 220 is what the guys said. Full Vertex kit, Megasquirt, Kakimoto exhaust, 5 Defi gauges and like perfect shape. I'm stoked.
  7. Yeap. That is what everyone missed. The entire swap was done, complete. All you had to do it change it out if you didn't like the body and you would have came out about 2k less than if you started from scratch. Could have driven it home, no sourcing parts, oil pan, mounts..nothing. I hate to see it go but have to make room for my Corolla running a 4agze turbo, a Megasquirt and about 15k in mods, so something had to go. But i'll do another one someday. I took a deposit yesterday and the guy is flying from Maryland tuesday after Easter and driving it home.
  8. Thanks alot guys. Yea I tried to price it fair then something came up and I just have to have it gone. It's fully driveable and ready to start and go. Took it up to Atlanta last night and drive around for a bit.
  9. Nope, never put it on the dyno, no need cause it's a stock RB25. Factory R33 intercooler far as I know. No front mount due to hood hinge mounting. 16x7 Panasports all the way around. Yeap, Bolt on spacers in the rear.
  10. My RB25 260 is in the for sale section. I lowered the price to 5k. I need to make room for something else. Gotta get rid of this thing. Anyone interested call me. 865-919-5841. On Ebay as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-260Z-RB25-swap-JDM-Rat-Rod_W0QQitemZ270105359591QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Thanks fellas.
  11. Form to me is always the best looking. What's the use of having something that looks good but works like poo. Slap one of those airdams on there, not like anyones gonna see anything but the rear of that beast anyway
  12. Heres mine, no new photos yet. Had to replace a water pump that I neglected to do when the motor was installed and paid the price for it. Other than that, running like a champ.
  13. Heres mine. No new photos yet. Just got done replacing the water pump that I neglected to do when the motor was installed. But live and learn. Other than that, running like a champ.
  14. It's got a 20 tranny on the back of it. The 25 tranny while much beefier is much larger or so i'm told. So I used a 20 tranny that I robbed off the back of my buddys motor. Greenmonster, the bodywork is all done in steel. Some guy did it back in the late 70s in his garage here in Atlanta. Theres no fiberglass anywhere on it. It's got Opel Manta taillights as well, most people think that it's an Opel GT when they first see it. That's also a Rock Star energy drink can on the side. I had some Southeast Drift Association vinyls on it but my buddy used some fancy electro sticker remover on them and with the lead based paint from the 70s as well, removed a nice slab of paint. So on went the sticker. I need some wider rear wheels but want to stay with 16's. Not a huge fan of large wheels. Thanks for the compliments guys, hopefully I will see some of you in March.
  15. Yea I'll be down there. For sure.
  16. Agreed. But with my car and the way the hood is put on there, there was no room to run the piping for a front mount. My front end has been extensively modified and the hood tilting mechanism is completely different. Plus the nose being all steel also left us with little room for a front mount without some cutting on the metal. Things are in the works for that but at the current time, with the Jegs radiator that I had in it for the V8 and a dual fans, one directly in front of the intercooler, it runs pretty good. The car is stet up stock boost and stock everything at the current time. With the low weight, the stock set up gets it along nicely.
  17. Got my car back last night. Exactly what I wanted. Mike and the crew at Top Hat Performance in Conyers did a fantastic job on my swap. Working on the exhaust part since at the moment I have a dump from the back of the EGR housing to the ground and it's quite noisy. Not too bothersome though. Sits under the hood nicely with no contact even when completely shut and runs 160-170 constantly. I'm giggly.
  18. Motors in. We had mounts fabbed and then taken to a laser shop to be cut. Working on the wiring and a few other goodies this week. Luckily the car was de-wired when my friend was on the drag kick and had a Painless harness installed so wiring is going to be quite simple. I'll have photo's of the mounts and stuff soon as My brother is about to sell a mount kit with oil pan. I'll keep more coming as I get it done. Thanks for the comments.
  19. Oil pan came today. All mockups on the mounts will be done by the weekend.
  20. No the flares are steel. The guy that built the car did it all by hand. It's not a kit. He used all sorts of strange stuff on it. There is a some subway or wiring schematic on the bottom side of one of the flares. The entire car is in steel. Here's a photo of it being built. The new wheels are Panasports. I checked the Rewinds out but these fell into my lap for almost nothing with new tires so I snatched em up. Need wider ones though so I will probably sell these soon. I will be down in Reynolds in March for sure. Missed it last time don't want to miss it again.
  21. I was doing a V8 swap when I posted before but I decided to go RB instead. Here are some photo's of the car and the swap in progress right now. Here is how I found the car a few years ago in Atlanta Ga. A friend of mine had it and was going for the drag race thing. He installed a 306 Ford in it but never finished it. So I got the car and yanked the Ford out and installed a 350 Chevy. No photos of that one since I never got it finished. I yanked the 350 out and put the original motor back in, drive it a year or so and parked it. My brother owns Tophat Performance in Atlanta and Core Products that fab RB mount kits so I chose to go that route. and some motor shots. The car is all steel. No fiberglass on the car anywhere. A guy made it in the late 70s. It has a cel, fabbed dash, full Autometers, Autopower bar, suspension upgrades and stickers out the rear end. Drives good. I used to run the Dragon in Tennessee with it and it is a blast. I'll keep the thread updated as time goes on. Sorry for the long post.
  22. Excellent. Please do, I would love to come to them. I will snap some photo's of the sunroof too. They took part of the roof and made it. The mechanism is strange at best and I don't like it at all. The motor crapped out so I took it off and use the crank now when I want to open it. But you can see the set up of it.
  23. Thanks guys. After the work is done I will be upgrading to some wider meats. Looking for the right wheels to do it with. Odds are I will be going to some Watanabes. I have a pair on the front but only a pair now, so in the process of looking for more. As for the location. I am in Tennessee for the next 3 days, then I am moving back to the Atlanta area. Little NE of there to be exact between Athens and Lawrenceville. I'll have a garage just for the car so i'll have some fun with the auto then upgrade to a manual. I would like to have it ready to drive to the Z meet you guys are having in Ga. Thanks again guys.
  24. Thanks alot Tim. It's been a fun road with it so far. I am gonna miss my 6 but there really is no comparison. Once I get it road worthy I will start looking for a 5 speed to go in it. It's gonna be a beast and super fun to drive.
