    Canadian Eh

BC dosn't seem to have the cars rust out quite as quickly as other parts of Canada. (Therefore there are still some rusty ones in the junkyards out there) I'm from Manitoba and to find a Z here is pretty slim pickin's most of the Z's around here have been shredded long ago. I was in a few junk yards in BC a couple years ago and I found there to be alot more stuff then anywhere around here. I imagine that the east coast would be similar to here, if not worse. What kind of parts are you after anyway? Depending on what you want it might be easier to buy new stuff from VictoraBritish or MSA although with the dollar exchange and shipping that can be extremely costly. The dealer is a good place to go if you want body panels. To buy original Nissan stuff here is cheaper than buying that made in Taiwan aftermarket stuff once you pay on the US dollar and get it shipped. If you want mechanical parts you might have more luck looking for 280zx's as they are newer and and might still be a couple in the boneyards. Alot of the engine/trans stuff is the same or similar (if you know what to look for)
  2. I understand the safety concerns and I wouldn't have even bothered to try and put a remote in a standard vehicle except that I KNEW that with a neutral switch in the trans it would be possible to install one SAFELY. but When I told him about the fact that my truck had a neutral switch didn't matter. (because it went in one ear and out the other) I was willing to show him the service manual that shows how the neutral switch works and allow them to install it for me but he didn't want to have anything to do with it. Instead he gave me attitude. As if what I was suggesting was impossible. (just like putting a V8 in a Z is impossible right?)
  3. Thanks for the info Rick! Pin #5 did the trick, I found the install rather easy actually. (as long as I have a good wiring diagram) The hard part was buying the unit in the first place. When the salesman found out that I wanted one for a manual tranny vehicle he wouldn't even sell it to me! Normally I wouldn't consider it for a stick but it just so happens that my pathfinder 5spd trans has a NEUTRAL SWITCH! Why? it's a emission control device. I figured that by using the neutral switch as a safety lockout that it would solve the problem of a accidental startup in gear! Well the saleman assumed that I was crazy and didn't know jack about cars. (maybe it was the other way around? ) I ended up buying it at a different store and it works just fine.
  4. I went to the dealer to buy a part for my 76Z and the guys there can't seem to find the part that I am looking for. I guess using those old microfiche things is kinda a lost art! Anyway, what I need is the rubber grommet that seals the main engine wiring harness to the firewall (just below the battery bracket) If anyone has the means to look up the part# so I can just give it to the guys at the dealer, I would be most happy!
  5. Hey guys, I bought a remote starter for my Pathfinder and it's all ready to go except one thing. I have a Haynes manual for 80-88 Nissan trucks but they only have a decent wiring diagram for the 86 and older models. What I need to know is this.. What color is the the wire (right at the computer) that I can get a tachometer reading from? I had one guy tell me that the wire was white but there are two white wires at the computer (I believe it was pin 3 and 5?) Can someone help me out? I really don't wanna screw up my computer (and remote starter unit) by hooking up the wrong wire!
  6. No info for you, but good luck on your project. I put a chevy 200cube V6 (similar to a 4.3) in a 620 it fit very well, but I did have to put a 3inch body lift kit to make room for the turbo350 tranny to go between the frame mounts and the floor.
  7. Ok, so no replies.. I take it nobody has ever heard of these cars. That's ok neither did I until a few days ago, but I did manage to find some pictures of these cars. http://www.1950sspecials.com/markham%20peasey.htm The reason I am interested is because I found out that a family member back in England that we never knew about built these cars, and now I know that there was a car that had my family name attached to it! cool huh? Now I wish I could get my hands on one, so I can park it next to my Z!
  8. Markham-Peasey was the name of a British company that made kit cars in the late 50's. Has anyone ever heard of these, or know anything about them?? Any info would be appreciated!
  9. I have a 75 280z here in Winnipeg, it hasn't been restored but it is a good candidate. Not much rust at all for a Z. The car is complete and runs, I'll let it go for $1800

    Posi Q's

As I recall, a 200sx turbo has a R200 4:11 ratio. However it is not LSD, if you want a LSD start looking for a R230 from a late 80's 300zxt
  11. I didn't realize about the cheezy plastic faked chrome covers, that really sucks, and I sure hope that the spoke problem is limited to the 650 models.. As for taking off the rear wheel, I never found it to be a big deal on my 83Virago. Unless this is somehow a different setup? Overall I think I will be happy with the bike, at least I know one thing (it's GOTTA have more power than my 750 did!) I think that is a given.. I was told that the 1100 Vstar should be comfortable cruising at 85mph, more than enough for me! Thurem: now you've done it! now that I know you work on those bikes I'll be emailing you asking for tech support all the time! Well, it is brand new, hopefully it won't give too many problems, my 20 year old Virago was pretty good to me.
  12. Well it looks like the search is over, I finally broke down and bought a 2002 Yamaha Vstar 1100. $1700 more than the Suzuki I was looking at but at least it is a bigger engine and the dealer didn't screw me around. I won't get the bike for a few weeks though, it's not in yet. Kind of a new experience for me, the newest vehicle I have ever owned was at least 9 years old!
  13. Thurem, I appreciate the input however I'm not sure I fully understood you. What is wrong with the Volusia? are you saying that it is gutless? If so, I guess it is good that I didn't buy one. Also, what is "supercheezy" about the Vstar? are you saying that it is a p.i.t.a. to work on or you you don't like the style of the bike? As for the Vmax I always wanted one of those.. and I even started thinking about it but these days I think a more comfortable relaxed cruiser would suit my needs better. Besides the Vmax has a stupid amount of power and I don't wanna become a statistic!
  14. It all started with wanting to upgrade from my 83 Yamaha Virago 750, so I went and looked at a used 92 Virago 1100. Well after taking it for a test drive I felt I that it was still ten years old and wasn't really any nicer than my bike other than a little more power. Then I started to look at a 97 Suzuki Intruder 1400 for $1500 more. I thought with a even bigger engine and 5 years newer it would be a better bet. The only problem is that it was at a bike dealership and they for some reason didn't have the bike on the premisis and told me to come back next week. Whatever, I phoned them later in the following week and still they didn't have it there! So after another week I went down and asked again as if to ask "do you guys wanna sell the thing or what?" The salesman promised that he would have the bike in tomorrow. In the meantime a brand new Suzuki Intruder Volusia 800 caught my eye. Very nice looking bike but I really wanted a large CC bike. After doing some research on the net I learned that the Volusia had certain things going for it that I never considered, for one it has 4 valves/cylinder, it has liquid cooling, higher compression. Not to mention just the fact that it is new.. I thought to myself, well the price is only another $1500 over the 97 1400 but would I really be happy with a 800cc bike? Well I went back to the dealer and I told him that I had also considered buying the new Volusia and he told me that I had a tough desision and that he suggested that I take the 1400 for a test ride and go from there, unfortunatly he couldn't let me put any km on the 0km new bike. I told him that I will take it for a spin and then he informed me that they just got the bike to the shop and that it still needed a battery. Come back tommorow, he said. Well the next day I went down to ride the bike even though it was quite cold out and then he started expressing concerns that it was cold and the tires would have less grip on the road.. Well after he phoned the boss to get the ok to let me ride the stupid bike then he tells me that the battery still needs to be charged! Come back in a hour he says... I thought that a hour to charge the battery was pushing it but whatever... So after I drive down the road a ways he calls me on my cell and tells me that it is gonna take more like 2.5hours. I tell him I have to be at work so I'll come back another time. So because the folowing two days were even colder yet I never went down to ride the bike. During those two days I did alot of thinking and decided to just go with the new bike. Today I went down to say I would take it they told me that it had been sold and that they still had one in a crate. "Fine I'll take it" I said.. Then he comes back and tells me that he was wrong and they have no more and that model is sold out all across Canada! What really ticks me off it that if I would have gotten their heads out of their butts in the begining and let me ride the 1400 back when it was promised to be ready then I would have bought one or the other right then and there!
  15. So what's the deal with this injecting propane into a turbo-diesel engine? and more importantly would it have any use in a turbo-gas engine?
  16. It will bolt right up, I've put everything from 70's truck trannies to 280zx trannies in old Z's
  17. Yeah that sucks, and just when I am thinking of getting back on two wheels.. Oh well look at it this way. In this particular case, motorcycles aren't dangerous. Idiots driving cars are! Could have just as easily been walking down the sidewalk and get nailed by a car. I know, because it happened to someone I know. He got hit by a half ton Chevy. Seems that the guy was three times over the blood/alcohol limit on a Sunday afternoon and jumped the curb nailing my buddy! Glad to hear your brother is ok though, he is very lucky! (more lucky than my buddy was) Hope he wasn't too shaken up after that experience, he might wanna second guess motorcycles as a means of transport.
  18. So much for the compotence of the "Zoom Zoom" pit crew @Mazda!
  19. I dunno, I always liked the Toyota Supra. How about a RX7? That would be same catagory as the Z.
  20. I think that you will find that everyone will tell you that if you are gonna go turbo to use the fuel injection system it came with and upgrade it from there (bigger injectors, programable computer, ect.) Don't get me wrong, I like carburetors, but in the case of a turbo system, injection is the way to go.
  21. 85mph?!?!?! In a Geo?? I used to have a 1990 Suzuki Swift, (I'm not sure but I don't think they had those in the US but it's basically the same car) I don't think I would have wanted to go that fast for any length of time I'd be worried about the engine going *KABOOM!!* My Suzuki was a good car overall, but I didn't care for it in the winter-time because it took forever to get heat and even though it was FWD it was still too light to have any traction in the snow. Can't complain though, I bought it for $500 cuz it didn't run and the owner couldn't figure out why. (turns out it was the fuel pump fuse was missing) Ran great and needed a few other things but I drove it for a year or two and sold it for $1700 Some days I wish I would have kept it just for the gas mileage! Oh well, the $1700 went towards the paintjob on my Z
  22. *SIGH* I guess I'll just have to get myself a Hon-duh.. Maybe a CRX you should get 30+ with that I would think.
  23. I was thinking of buying a house out of town (60miles) but I figure with the price of gas the driving back and forth will really start to dig into the ole wallet after a while. I don't really want to buy a s**t-box econo car, so I was thinking of a nice Z that with a powertrain that has mileage in mind rather than power. Anybody have any ideas? How would you get a Z to give you 30-50mpg @60mph? Maybe 50mpg is just plain impossible... I dunno.
  24. Funny.. Here in Canada you can get 280z's with speedometers that are in Km
  25. Johnny: You keep saying that there "aren't any turbo Z engines around here" Tell us where you are from, and maybe someone who lives near you could jump in and give you a few ideas. BTW: welcome to the club!
