Not sure how to change the picture size
-
Ok so I have started pulling the motor apart, just need to take it to my friend's shop to get the head bolts and crank bolt loose and then off with the head. Question though so I know what to keep and what to sell off, round headers can go on round or square heads but square is only with square right? Or is it the other way around? The motor came with square headers and I have a set of round ones that I got for the motor in my car already. Hopefully ill have the head off by the end of today and then its time to start pricing out machine shop options. Anyone know any good ones in the Baltimore Maryland area please let me know.

Dont quite understand why the picture size varies so much but at least you get the idea.

Just got the new front air dam installed figured I would put a few pictures up of how everything went. From stock Bumper off Test fit Paint, I also did the black parts of the bumper at this point too but it wasn't a new piece so no picture hahaha And.... Done Why not throw in a cool little parking lot picture for the fun of it. Doesn't look to bad if I do say so myself. I might end up throwing some of that chrome mesh stuff in to fill the gap in the bumper and air dam/ to prevent rocks from flying up in there, but we will see.

I guess everything keeps coming back to mega squirt and cam or carbs. I just got home from vacation so the reading begins again. If I can sell this motor as a whole I might not be doing this setup, but we will see how it goes. I have a couple people interested in it so if it falls through then Im going to have to make the best out of what I have. Really trying to get some money saved up to get the frame rails and floor pans redone first and foremost though.

I have everything but the afm and fan. Just got the motor a week ago, previous owner puled it for a v 8 swap. Im in maryland though so the shipping price would probably make it not worth it for you.

Any new word? How is everything coming along?

Thanks Lazeum for the link and Rob for the explanation. This car isnt my daily its just a for fun and weekend car. I was planing on getting some head work done, probably porting it and possibly a cam and valve job depending on cost. I do not have carbs though, I was planing on keeping it fuel injected. My goal with this was to have something that was A.) better than stock B.) something that I would spend under $1000 with working on and C.) a fun little hold over so I could work on some other things and get this car in better shape. I got the whole motor, intake, and headers for free so Im off to a good start cost wise. Getting straight pipe run from the header is maybe $200 and I already have a muffler. Now that I have those headers I might donate on here and try to sell my other ones. Should be able to as I got them and never hand a chance to put them on the car. I read probably three pages of that link, thats a lot of information to take in. Im going to have to take some time out and read the whole thing some time soon, before I start working on it.

Rob, where did you get your cam from? What motor did you have before and how does this one compare as far as power, response, and driveability?

cool man, please let me know how it works out for you.

I am about to become the owner of a 76 motor (N42 head from my research). I currently have a P79 head with the F45 block. I read on datsunzgarage.com that "Many people like these for performance because of it's square exhaust ports. And as a easy mod, putting it on a flattop L28 motor puts compression in the mid 10's." What are the advantages and disadvantages of this setup over my current setup? What type of power gains are to be expected in doing this? If I can get a bit of an upgrade from this setup while saving some money to fix up some other things then that would be awesome. I have tried searching but everything I am finding if for a 3.0L setup. Any information or links to information or anything that can help would be greatly appreciated.

Yea that was pretty awesome. -
Im interested in the fenders but I am also looking at putting flares and 10" wide wheels and I wouldn't want to cut into the vent line with the flare. Think you could pm me some measurements as far as wheel well to the start of that vent or some point that might help. John, I was looking at your CF hood with the partial frame. Its not a total race car, yet at least, just a fun toy to get nice so far. I think I e mailed you about it a long time ago about weights of CF and glass I cant remember what you said it was now but I know you said the pin on CF is 8lbs. Still interested but body parts that are ok on my car are bottom of the list and Im still on the broke side. My fenders on the other hand are rusting and need replaced and I need to explore options.

Thats cool, I do a lot of work in that area. I would probably be interested in some of the front end parts, bumpers and probably fenders. If you have any pictures so that I can see what Im thinking about that would be cool. Then if I like it its just a matter of price and how long I will need to save up. Body work was going to be done with a loan anyways so if I can save cost on repair and add brand new, light weight, quality parts instead of repaired metal then I want to look into it. Thanks a lot looking forward to hearing back from you.

Id be interested. But Im sure shipping from Puerto Rico to Maryland would be pretty expensive. What molds do you have just out of curiosity?
-
Thats kind of interesting to know, that you didn't need a spring compressor to install the springs. I am getting ready to out the HP lowering kit on my ZX and we trying to find somewhere to compress the springs. Did you do the front too? Same?

I have been looking into this off and on as a future project. Does everything from the S130 bolt right up to the Z31 LSD or does fabrication need to be done? I will probably be going to the junk yard to pull one out so what are some things I should look for so I know I get the right part and also, what should be looked at to make sure its going to be in good shape? Or is there no telling till its pulled apart? Pretty much I'm asking what do I need to take off the Z31 to do this swap? Anyways man it looks like you have yourself a nice fun little car there, keep the updates coming.

I have been thinking about doing that to mine. I have an extra set of iron cross wheels that I was gonna clean up and paint black, but time and money keeps going other places. I figured they would look better black than the 82-83 six spoke style but who knows.

I am curious to see the S13 front end on it. I have been looking around for different ideas on front bumpers so I totally have to see this.

Car starts but dies when reved
CaptainJoe87 replied to CaptainJoe87's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
So it turned out to just be the alternator. I swapped it out along with a few blown fuses this past weekend and everything has been running just fine again. No more sparking clicking relays, no loss of power when driving. Next broke part that needs fixing/ replacement is the brakes. Its funny though because now that the car is fixed and working fine again, the computer is working just fine again too. Nothing was done to fix that though, it just decided to stay on now. -

The haines manual only has removal and installation of the regulator. I have a spare one laying around so after I swap the alternator its on to that. I have the alternator pulled off but not out yet, didn't realize what time it was when I got started and ran out of day light. Tomorrow though it will be out and hopefully swapped. The spare alternator looks a little bit different so Im going to have to compare them before I put it in. -

Ok so I picked up a new relay at the junk yard and still have the same problem. That was something quick to try. I will try and swap the fuel pressure regulator some time tomorrow hopefully, and possibly the alternator. Would the voltage regulator going bad have the voltage to high or to low though?? Computer is still acting funny so Ill check back when I can. -

I would imagine so. Looks like Im gonna have to try and find out how to check it. Unless you know and wouldn't mind sharing? I might just pick one up from the junk yard today just to be sure. Should only be about 5 bucks.
