  1. Hey guys, I have been bugging some people on here trying to find out about doing my first bodywork/paint job on a car. Last night while searching on the internet, who knew... I found a really good site and I wanted to share it. They have great info for paints, primers, bodywork, custom stuff, and much more! http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/hotrodders-knowledge-base-body-exterior-74801.html http://www.hotrodders.com/kb/browselinks.php?c=43 http://www.hotrodders.com/kb/browselinks.php?c=96
  2. Sorry for not explaining more... I have never hammer and dolly'd before so I'm looking to practice. I'm pretty much going to strip, straighten, and paint a couple of panels before I get to the Z. Get familiar with the different ways of fixing and smoothing panels. As for welding, I'm not sure if I'm going to take the car to a shop for the rocker panel replacement, and for the BD frame rails to be put on. If the price gets rediculous I might go ahead and buy a welder and start practicing..
  3. Its not going to be IN the junkyard.... they're gonna be FROM the junkyard....
  4. Hey guys, Before I tackle my Z as my first ever body project, I am going to practice on some junkyard panels. My question is what type of cars have sheet metal comparable to the Z. I have some panels from a 86 BMW 5-series, any other opinions on what to practice with? Thanks, Joe
  5. Books with DVD's cost more at Barnes & Noble... I'm too poor. Maybe if you're writing a book with a DVD, RacerX, I can get the first one to proof read..
  6. I have a book about custom interior stuff, and it helps to have A LOT of pictures. And very detailed explanations of how to do things, without skipping steps. Also, its good to have things that could go wrong and how to fix them. (the most common stuff, not EVERYTHING). The latest 6 month edition of Hot Rod bodywork is a good idea of how not to do it. They skimp on a lot!
  7. Might be able to flip the fan around the clutch. I know the different fans were attached differently to the clutch. My fan was attached at the edge of the fan, but one I bought off ebay attached at the middle of the fan so they stuck out differently. Might be able to either flip it around, or get another.
  8. Hey, I will be going to Japan March of 2007. We will be flying into Tokyo, and doing most things around there, and "electronics city", and whatever else. I am wondering if anyone knows car things to do around there. If anyone know of places to find where shows, races, drifting, or any museums to go to. It will be the last week of March. Also, anything else thats great to do, let me know. I'll have a week. thanks, Joe
  9. Anyone know where to get rid of old calipers and rotors? People do buy them, even not as cores or anything right?
  10. I do, its posted in the classifieds somewhere....great for a core. S12W, vented rotor swap. Also got brand new Pads (from MM) if you need some for the new calipers. email me..
  11. Looks good... nice Aurora in the background... I had a sweet 97
  12. The Monte guys had their mind set that a turbo was like nitrous. They kept saying "but you got a turbo" whenever Hybridz brought up the nitrous.... i guess the guys didn't get the fact that turbo doesn't add more HP like nitrous does... HP for HP both car were close and shoulda run outright. The nitrous was just silly.
  13. You probly read my post of me finding some 240sx and a 89 and 92 300zx diffs. I am not sure how to tell if they are turbo or not, can anyone help me? With doing a V8 swap, is it easier to get a long nose r200 and swap in a LSD internals from a r200 or r230?? Is there a way to get a short nose and install it into my 260z now with stock everything else? or easier to do long nose r200?
  14. Hey guys, Went to a junkyard today and saw some 240sx and 300zx there. Had finned cover so I came here and checked the dates (89 and 92 300zx) but I forget what the 240sx's were, but all the late 80s early 90s styles. I have a 260 and will be doing a chevy swap. I beleive the 300zx's were non turbo, not too sure how to check them out. What should I look for in both styles of cars to tell exactly which differential is there, and if I should pick it up to put in the Z for the swap. Thanks guys, I will search more, now, but too excited to wait to post.
  15. I searched some more and found the steering racks are different 70-73 and 74-78 so I guess I need to buy the 74-78 ones.
  16. Hey guys, The kit I bought from PST sent the wrong steering rack bushings. I have a 3/74 260z, and MSA, Black Dragon, and Courtesy Nissan sell them. Anyone know which one to order, because Black Dragon says their bushings are for 70-73 240 and 74-78 260 and 280, but is there any difference?? I know the left and right bushings are supposed to be different sizes.
  17. OK, got the right studs... so far only 5, should have other 3 tomorrow. Drove them in with a hammer, went in nicely. Then had to grind away at the center of the wheel spacer from Pep Boys to fit flush against the hub (thanks for making sure I did that JMortensen) Then screwed the lug nuts on. I used some lug nuts I bought used on ebay. Look like normal nissan covered acorn, I guess... Kinda hard screwing some in, since they have to go through the rims hole and I think some of the wheel studs were off alignment a little so screwing them in must've put them straight. Oh ya, I bought new cotter pins incase you've seen the other post about breaking one. I'm nervous about driving the car now.... first car I've ever replaced every bushing under the car, putting on new struts and springs, ball joints, switching over to brakes, lug nuts, all kinds of new stuff... Nervousness.... any ideas on how to test? Take it slow to the shop for an alignment, then gradually build up confidence?
  18. Yes, those pictures help a lot. I will check to see if I got the right ones when I get home tonight. Thank you both.
  19. Hey, Just bought Nissan Quest studs. Went to put them in and they seem to need to be pressed in. Through searching I found zcarnut said in a post to buy rears, but I found that after buying fronts. But the only reason I bought fronts was because the Napaonline.com showed front and rears both have same part numbers, and the decriptions are the same sizes. Anybody got any insight on this? The ones I bought seem sooo close its not even funny, but I quickly banged at them for about 20 seconds, then looked at them and figured I'd just press them in, it seems they are the right ones but brand new so a little larger.
