  1. For backround purposes, 1979 Datsun 280zx NA A/C from the factory, don't know if it's been converted or not but going by the fittings, no. The question is this, since I've had the car the compressor has been locked up and unturnable by hand . I assumed that being so old it finally gave out and froze, today I decided that I can do without a/c since I don't want to pay for a new compressor and started removing the dead weight. I got some lines off, the condensor, the accumulator, etc and when I came to the compressor I grabbed it for leverage and realized that the clutch would turn by hand. Without the compressor under pressure it turns smoothly and easily. Does anyone know if this means that it's actually good? Or does it just turn because there is no pressure in the system, could too much or too little R12 have caused it to freeze up? I'd just like to know if the a/c system is still good or trash because I'd hate to get rid of this stuff if all I need is a retrofit kit but, I'd also hate to go out and buy the stuff only to have it freeze up again under pressure.
  2. Yeah I would hope so with as far back as they set the motors in the Fbody and C5 lol.
  3. What about those '79-'83 mercedes 300d springs that many people have cut down to provide a stock height with stiffer ride, ideally if you don't cut them wouldn't your height be raised with a stiffer ride to boot?
  4. I've heard a lot of locals talk poorly of these particular springs because they're not as performance oriented as others are, these are more for comfort than anything else but, this is pure hear say.
  5. Okay for starters I apologize if Im just bringing up a dead thread. I've searched everywhere for help and haven't gotten a straight answer but this thread seems as close to my problem as I have found yet. I've got an all stock '79 280zx 2+2 with the same issues as several of you. The brake feels excessively soft and spongy while the car is running but, firms up quickly when the car is off. The brakes work fairly good though although they won't lock up and the braking action is smooth as should be, I just have a terribly low pedal pressure. I have new rotors and pads up front and the rear still has plenty left on it, I recently installed a new MC thinking it would solve the issue and I bench bled it until no bubbles came up, the whole system should now be air free and the fluid comes out clean, I have no leaks whatsoever but still the pedal feels this way, Im kind of scared to drive the car this way because Im not sure if it will fail on the street or if I will accidentally apply too much pressure causing an accident. Oh and I forgot to mention that the car has been this way since before I purchased it. Some of you mentioned the reaction disc, to be honest Im not familiar with how the booster works but in my case could this be a possibility or should I attempt flushing all my fluid out and give bleeding another try? Just as with some of you Im close to ready to kill the car, and I know for a fact that I have less invested in my whole car than some of you do in just your brakes alone so I know you've got to be pissed. lol
  6. 5400rpm in 5th with a 1980 5-speed 2 seater with 225/70/R14 (broken speedo) rip) 75mph in 1979 5-speed 2+2 ( I just started driving it earlier last week, first time I had a car in eight months since the wreck)
  7. WOW, that looks great. Can't wait to see the outcome
  8. hmm, I should've done that to my 1980 S130 perhaps then it would've handled the wreck a little bit better. haha.
