well i think i have decided to go with the 250 i think it may fit under the hood better, and they crank better. i was at the yard today i got the exhaust manifold and fuel manifold off the head. i'm taking the head from one of the 292's i have been told they where the same as the 250's with an exception of the some of the older 250's i believe 64cc not sure if thats right. so i guess i'm going back tomorrow to finish up.

well i got the 2 turbo's i need, i juct picked up 2 garret T3's matching from a cupple saab's now i think i might be headed to the junk yard to get at least the head form the 292

i have full access to a small machine shop, we can do most anything, port, poilsh, bore, deck heads. we can't line bore, but this comes to mind and i thought i would share it. we had a 350 and one of the bearing caps for the crank was warped about .0010 hmm is that right? any way 10 thousands. so we shimed it with a piece of a soda can. works fine to this day. it's been running for 3 years now in an old chevy appache truck. we also put 292 rods in to a 366bb i can't remember what the CI turned out to be. but a fella around here has got it in his 70 camero. goes like you wouldn't believe.

i can get lt1's for $500 at the junk yard when available. generally they are not available. i can also get a BW T56 for $350 but also hard to find here

i need a z for you to meet first. i have my 86 300zx but i can not put a inline 6 anything in that. i was thinking about a 3.8 gn motor. my car definetly havs the look but not the power i have seen a 305 conversion near where i live in an 84 300z and it looks like crap! i hate how it fits in there. and there is no where to run a dual exhaust. with out a ton of modification. i love my z to death but it's power everything except the saets now i replaced them with corbeau's it's a naturally apserated also the only mods i have done is in take and i have the exhaust custom made cat back from stainless. i just want something i can put a real motor in. and i rather stay with the Z's i have had 3 and liked them all. i have started collecting parts for my 350 (4 bolt) i have, i just picked up a nice aluminum intake yesterday. i just got the urge to TURBO something. all i deal with is turbo's all the freakin time i sell'em on ebay and i have yet to have a turbo vehical. i wanted to turbo my last ducati 748, have you ever seen how the exhaust is routed on one of those, you could never do it. with out the turbo being in your way or sticking out like a toumor

yeah, up here we use 292 for boat motors great for lobstering. what about a 250? the stroke is not as long. i'm assuming prolly around the same weight. but for conviance it would be esier to work on than a SBC. don't get me wrong SBC, are easy to work on, but try stuffing a cupple turbos in there too. or even a SC. it won't all fit under our hoods mabe if your crafty enough. i guess i need more pounding in to my head so excuse my ignorance 292 is a very torquey motor and if the proformance parts are there any not utilize them? not trying to argue just trying to understand.
-
here is just a thought. i was at the junk yard today gitting hei distributos and i got 2 from 292's and some 250's i have seen some people turbo or twin turbo there L series z motor. why not turbo or twin turbo a 292? and stuff that in a 70-78z and i bet there would still be tons of room to work on it. unlike a V8 tubo or twin turbo and more power than a inline 6 z motor.

nope live in the great state of maine actually the state law says i can't go away from stock unless considered an antique or hot rod but a hot rod must be old enough to be an antique. but really no one cares up here. i don't even have cats on my 93 v6 nissan. i truely love older z's and i would rather put this motor in an older z. but they are very hard to come by. and when you do they are rust buckets. also i don't think i could forgive my self to ditch my 86z for an older z. besides i have way to much money in to an N/A z just to get rid of it now. i figured it out on day i have over 5,000 in to it not counting the 4,700 i bought it for. so lets burn some more money;) the main reasion for going GN is becasue my buddy already has a whol shed of aftermarket parts he's going to sell me cheep 50lb injectors $75 can't beat it. also he's going to help me install it.

i have family in NZ he's always told me that r34's are dirt cheep down there. he got me a quote once on a used one i believe it was around $6,000 american. personally i would think motor and trans 1500-2000 with out shipping

Is it possible to put a 350 chevy block in an '86 Z31
warrenp replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
i have seen it done, and it's cramped! but it fits. you will need a cowl induction. for it to fit under the hood. -

can i work this? i just want the tranny for my 3.8 turbo from a GN insted of the 200r4 is there a kit to run the tranny seperatly? i also have a 90 tpi motor that needs a tranny but i prefered that had a t56 but the set up i want would be the GN with this tranny. can it be done? -

does that make it any better? if it's eletric what do i need with it to work properly? he said he would sell the tranny seperate for $250 or 650 for both good deal? -
i just found a LT1 in the local swap and sell guide. i called yesterday and i was the 1st caller so i'm going to check it out tomorrow. it's from a 95 caprice cop car 5.7 liter (350) cast heads not aluminum NUH! with wiring harness and ecu and trans mission for $650 the trans is a 4L60E what is it? the guy told me on the phone it's a step up from a 700r4 is this true? if so how good is it? info, info, info gimme all you got on these engines and tranies. asap i'm checking it out tomorrow afternoon thanks guys!

must be thinking on about the same wave link i was thinking the same think just 380z orginally i bought a 305 tpi and was going to switch it over to a 350 block just buy the new injectors and ecu to make it work. but my frind has the Spare GN motor that weighs less than the tpi motor. so i'm selling the TPI and buying a GN sounds like a better deal to me. the tpi motor seems wicked havy sitting on my engine stand. i know the old z's 70-83 the motors weighs almost as much as a 350 GM i think my v6 is lighter than the L series. i'm open to any other opinions what do you guys think?
-
hoping to be an other GNZ but with a twist. 1986 GNZ 300zx a buddy of mine has a spare GN motor i believe it from an 85 wish it was a 87. it's all torn down ready for rebuild. complete wining ecu and all for $700 seems like a good deal? what do you guys think?
