  1. i have been seriously thinking of doing something to my z for a conversion. but for right now i deciding what trans i should go with. as of right now i have a borg warner t-5 world class for a chevy application. i found a borg warner t-10 locally (I THINK) the guy listed it in the local swap and sell guide ad says brog warner 4 speed trans. so i cantacted the guy he say's he's not sure what it is. but believes it came from a 70's z28's camero he had it in his nova. price is right any way he's askign $150 OBO i can't think of what else it could be? besides and sr4 but i can't imagine some one using one of those junks for a nova or camero. any way if you guys had your choice what would you go with a B/W T-5 WORL CLASS or BW T-10?
  2. i bet i have close to 10g's in mine and the engine is still about stock car cost $4,700 paint $1,500 stainless exhaust $500 installed alternator $100 after market front and rear sway bars $200 upper strut bar $130 corbeau seats & haness $400 f-40 wing $200 front air dam $200 new radiator $150 new switchs misc.. $200 new speekers $70 just rear k&n filter kit $75 240 sx tb $50 ronal wheels $200 used tires $500 new starter $100 the prices are estimated! i have bought a turbo motor but have not installed it. not sure if thats what i want. that was $500 and then i went through it with new gastkets and timing belts etc...... also nissan factory recall all new fuel system!!! i think it's an estimated 1,300 worth

  4. the only thing you may have over a v8 is weight so handling MIGHT be a bit better? i doubt it, usually when a v8 goes in to a z it's monted fairly far back so you really do not loose handling. once again "there is no replacment for displacment" the 4.3 might be a bit esier to work on because it's smaller but thats about it. the only probable reasion i have thought of putting a 4.3 in to a z is if you have a 300zx it would make for a much esier swap. due to lack of space a v8 does not fit in those as well as the 70-78 z's
  5. hey just thought i would shoot some infor you to you guys. a 4.3 is identcal to the gm 5.7 minus the front 2 cylinders if you do the math you will see it comes out to a 4.275 of corse gm rounded it to a 4.3. i have been told you can buy a gm 5.7 rebuild kit for less then one for a 4.3 go figure. i only know this becasue a friend of mine owns a small machine shop. and he buys kit for 5.7's insted because they are cheeper. and he get to keep the extra parts. any way my poin is. why buy headers for a 4.3? if you can buy them for a 5.7 and cut off the end you do not use and cap it. 5.7 headers are cheeper. i have some block huggers for a 5.7 and yes they fit a 4.3 so if i wish i can even munt them up side down and cut off the end i do not use. ups side down would be great if some one wanted to put a turbo or two on. if any one wishes i can take a picture for you to see they fit. i would post them up for all to see but i'm not sure how.
  6. i can't see how the bell housing is seperate on a 350 or 400 turbo trans. unless you saw it off!
  7. i got it fixed and back in already! i bought a turbo 400 torque converter and put it in to my 350 turbo trans. worked out great!
  8. yeah i guess, if you wanna go through the hassle. check on ebay there's a guy selling a turbo 400 bell housing. it's after market! it will work for the application you are talking about. also there is a guy who's selling a chluch turbo 400 that way you can see how it fit's together. if the transmission if from a 4.3 v6 is the same pattern! the 4.3 (262) was the only one made with the same bolt pattern as the gm's v8 small and big block!
  9. yeh, that would be my concern one the size. i'm not sure what size mine is. i think it's the bigger one 168 tooth????? the flex plate needs to be externally balanced also. prefer dual pattern for a 1 piece rear maine seal
  10. i was trying to find one on ebay but the only one i found was for an internally balanced engine. also does it matter if it was 1 piece rear maine seal or 2 that the flexplate came from?
  11. i was just talkin to a guy on the phone that seems to think that a th400 and a th350 torque converters are not quite the same. he claims the th400 has a wider pattern. thans the 350. he claims the was a flex plate made to fit both th400 and th350's but they are hard to come by. if some one here could varify the info that would be great!!!
  12. i just put the big my big block 454 gen 6 in to my truck and the flywheel does not bolt to the torque converter. is this normal?
  13. i think bbz is my new idol whats more to love than a z with a big block? beet a chevy with it's own power power to wight gotta love it. bbz: since i have already started my gen 6 project. my dad just gave me a 454 thats runs today. it's in a motor home that's kinda a crap hole. but the engine is good. doesn't seem to smoke it's an older motor late 70's i think. to bad i wasn't given it to begin with then i would have spent the cash for the gen 6. i guess i'll have to sell my 300z becasue i know a big block won't work in that. just won't fit. aww crap. i can't wait for some of your swap info i think i may need it.
  14. i was reading this http://forums.s-series.org/viewtopic.php?t=23076 and i think they are right i remmeber seeing it some where. V8 vortec's did not start until 96 but v6 4.3's starter eirlyer 92 i believe.
  15. i have set thats in the for sale section, i was reading an artical and they claim that they have more profrmance potential than most gm heads if you do nto believe me here's the number 14011034 they are bow-tie heads!! i'm selling them for my cousin i should hopfully get the pictures to night.
  16. i needs to be a vortec any vortec engine had rooler cam!!! 96 and up i believe had the better heads! i'm not quite sure what year they started but i have one thats a 93 and thats a vortec with rooler cam. and i think they started befor that.
  17. thought this was just a bit ironic bbz right after i posted that last message last nigt. my cousing called me up he with some proformance parts he want me to sell for him on ebay. i'm gonna post them up in the for sale section here too. one of the items was a weiand team g intake. just thought that was a bit too ironic maybe some one's send me a message? i have never even seen one befor besides in on ebay or in the parts books.
  18. well i would say you have a good start. i was just thinking my self, i have a 4.3 vortec in the garage that i converted to a 4bbl set up. it's been sittin on the stand for about a year or so now. i wasn't sure what to do with it. and my 86 300zx is way under powered. the only proformance mods i have is a 240sx tb, ecetric fans, 2" or maybe 2-1/4 i can't remember stainless exhaust and the k&n filter i did not do much becasue i was not sure if i wanted to keep what was in it or do somthing else. i love the car to death. i have had it for about 6 years. i have way to much money than any non-turbo z31 should have in it. i have a list longer than my are of parts i have put in. i have seen a v8 in a 300zx and i didn't like how it fit! it was awful! so i was thinking of making my own headers upside down to conserve on space and put a cowl or somthing on the hood. for the twin garret t-3 turbo's i have been sitting on. just seems like an esier conversion than a v8 due to space issues with headers or manifolds. i do have a turbo 300zx engine thats all been redone besides being bored out. it just was not nessary. but i want some power just a bit and a bit cheeper would be nice too hey, one last question whats the starts on my post mean i think tere my be a check mark there. is that good or bad?

  20. thats about what i thought, i bought a complete set off ebay a few days ago becasue i didn't seem to think they was. just an other quick question did they make a tall bock 454? i already checked my distributor is the same legth from my 350 to 454. but i was woundering in the oler years if there was a tall block 454 made? and also on your list what about motor mounts?
  21. hello, sorry this is not too much z related. actually to be honest i wouldn't own an other z unless it was a 70-78 hybriz. just gittin tired of'em any way, i'm in the process of swaping out my 350 engine in my 87 3/4 pick up. and puttin in a gen 6 454 vortec. would any one happin to know if any of the pully's or brackets are the same from a small block to a big block?

  23. just woundering what your guy thought. i have an IHI turbo. it's kinda small much smaller than a t3 i got becasue i have an intrest in turbo charging something??? snowmobile, motor cycle, what ever how small of a cubic centimeater or horse power can i turbo? for instance cani turbo: go kart? 5hp or so? moped? pocket bike? dirt bike? 3 wheeler? 4 wheeler? the turbo spins nice i saw on guy on here a cupple years ago turbo a snowmobile and use a t3 and if i recall the cc was not that big, maybe 300cc?????? i wanna turbo something i do not really car what. personally i think i moped would be neat, funny, cheep and fast. what do you guys think?
  24. i figure if one was to ultize a 4.3 insted of a 350 becasue thats what they had to work with. i like 4.3's personally. i also like 350's i really like 455's,454, and 502's 572's
