  1. Got of my fat but and had a look under the z. the pipe could go forward of the sump but this seams to defeat the purpose somewhat, there is room to do it behind the sump as well. Little as it may be, I hate to add weight to the front of the car, so I will try to get them behind the sump. I cant be bothered , however, it it wont get me more power. Any one know if it will or not? Cheers Douglas
  2. I may be way of the wall here but I had a conversation with a old employee of mine years ago who said he made motor bike headers buy getting the length he wanted and then sealed the ends after filling them with sand, then heated and bent them to the shape he wanted. It seems remotely possable if you took great care in the bending process to not crimp the tubes. i wonder how the F1 and Indy guys make there headers? Thre doesnt seem to be any joins. Douglas
  3. Howdy Yall, I was flicking throught he holley site the other day and saw that the the 600 to 850 carb all came from the same family. 4150 and 4160. Does this mean that i could change my 600 vac sec to a 750 without buying a new carb. Its probable cheeper to just get a new one but i am just curious. Douglas
  4. You fab your own engine mounts. Kind of like the set back plates in reverse. I can take a digital photo if you like, but i would have to e-mail it. to someone to post. Let me know. Douglas
  5. Good on you. it will be wicked. Try a 21r toyota piston. From memory its around 91mm and has a hemi head as well. Are you trying to get it out to around 6 ltrs? Douglas
  6. Scott, If you are going to run injection then a lot of the problems assocatiated with single plane manifolds can be tuned out. You dont have to worry about low air flow not sending the right signal to the carb. The victor jr seem to be a favoured manifold, however i wonder if you can get away with something more like a tunnel ram becuase of the advantages of fuel injection. Any one else know? Douglas
  7. Pete, I see where you are coming from but i dont know if it would work. I have a book buy a guy called A. Graham Bell called "4 stroke performance tuning". this is my bible but its buried in storage while my house is being built. He goes into what you are saying a little so i will check it out when i can. The chev i have has small block huggers on it that need to come out for a bit of work any way. I was thinking that i would cut them of before the collecters and run the middle pipes under. I am looking for a tube lenth around 36 inches if i can. I havent climbed under the car for a while so i forget how it layed. Also i am running a supra 5 speed which is nice and small so there may be room further back. We will see. Cheers Douglas
  8. What about a set up with 3 small holleys or mabye 6 two barrel ones. Someone must have done this buy now. Webers are two damn expensive. Which brings me on to the next subject. Has anyone seen a 4* 2 barrel holley setup for the domestic v8? Douglas
  9. Got to agree with you there Omar. Dont know much about the differnt properties but i do know that my all. mountain bike is a hell of a lot stiffer then a steel one for a tiny bit less weight. You might have to fab the mounts so that there is extra metal where you get bending loads. Let us know how you get on. Douglas

As I said before, let me know if i can help. I think that Pete is on the same track that i am in that we go through the old posts and sift through the relevant inf. It would be way cool if we could link the inf. to members sites that have done that mod. for a more detailed look and inf. Might save on "band width" as well, not that i know what that means. Good thing about this part of the world is that i get to have beer way before your Friday has even started! Douglas
  11. Toyota makes a v12 5.0 48 valve in there domestic market. Its pretty hard to find inf. on it though. It is in there domestic market CENTURY a barge if there every was one. Power is capped at the jap standard max. of around 280 hp. Douglas
  12. Howdy, I am back on this 180 degree header thing again. I think i can make some buy converting the existing block hugers and making flanges to get it in and out. Does anyone know if they will actually make more power. There is little on the web about them but they seem to be baned in a lot of circle tracks so there must be something in that. I love the sound the make and it would also make people scratch there head when i blow there doors off. Why dont he drag guys use them? Douglas
  13. There is stuff out there for the v12. The poms are getting them out to 8.2 lts with over bores and stroking. The price is out of this world though. There is also weber manifolds and individual runer feul injection set ups. Mabye do a search for tom walkinshaw racing. He raced with these engines at le mans. Bob tullis also raced this engine in scca. Douglas
  14. Thanks guys, the other things on the casting that i remember was "conv4" and "gm17". I will have another look and check out the other head for more inf. Douglas
  15. Thanks guys. You always come through with the goods. I have vizards head book and hopefully will start to read it tonight if the baby goes to sleep. I am looking for around 400 hp and it loks like everything is in order on the z i bought to do so. Just needs a bit of exhaust work and tuning and we will be burning up the road. Douglas
  16. Guys, When you talk About heads and say for instance "195 airflow research heads", does the 195 stand for intake flow or intake volume? If its intake volume then It really wouldnt have much relevance to the power making capabilities of those heads whold it? Thanks, Douglas
  17. Allrighty then. I have looked again and i thought that the number was 8847041. those first two numbers are hard to read though and it could very well be a 3 or a 9. I think that there lies my answer. Thank YALL for your help. Douglas
  18. The casting number is 8647041. Vizard says the 041 casting is from 69 70 high po motors but the whole casting number he has in the book was different. Can anyone out there advise if these heads are any good. They have 2.02/1.6 valves and have been ported. The previous owner decribed them as "fuelie spec". I am making a to do list and would like to know if these will make the 400 odd hp i am looking for? Thanks, Douglas
  19. Howdy all, I unburied the z this afternoon and was generally stuffing about and making a to do list. The carb is a 650 vac sec holley with manual choke. I was looking for part numbers so i could get a rebuild kit for it. There are heaps of numbers on the front of the carb that looks like the genitic code for the humpback whale. Is this what i use or are all the carbs the same? thanks, Douglas
  20. You lucky fellow. The back roads around my part of the world would just be loving that gear box. My pockets wouldnt however. Thanks for the inf on the spacers btw. Cheers Douglas
  21. Here is another place to peruse, www.headersbyed.com I was pretty inpressed buy what he was saying and have the info kit that he sells. This guy says that equal lenght long headers are the way to go and has quite a bit of info to back it up. He has sent me a tape on header design. i will listen to it today and see if there is anything new. Douglas
  22. Getting tence here fellas. There are so many variables when setting up a car that you can not really be campairing apples with apples here. You tune your car to work and handle they way YOU want it to. We all drive differently so the car must be set up to reflect that. There is no right and wrong in that regarde. I think of the Senna Vs prost days. Same Mclaren. Completly deferent set up and driving styles. Fastest laps and poles buy both. Think about how you like to drive and then work backwards. Oh and just to be a real pain in the but; the technical side of me says "Yeah 50/50 balance and drive it on the rails", but the fun side says" hang it out" and then the just about to lose ones licence side says " it a public road and if you are going fast enough to tell the difference you are going to burn sooner then later." Will I ever learn?
  23. Thanks Guys, I had a long chat with a local boatbulider yesterday and am going to see him tommorrow. He has lots of different foams to play with so i will poke around and see what i think will work. Will keep yall informed. Douglas
  24. just make sure that the springs don become loose in there mounts if you keep cutting them. When i have done this in the past i would jack the car up and measure the spring fully extended while it was mounted. take the spring out and NEVER cut it shorter than that fully extended length. You also want to cut it a fast as you can so the spring doesnt heat up to much during the process. I used to wrap the spring in wet cloth up to the cut of point. Douglas
