  1. Wow, Curve balls indeed. 2002 is proving to be a trying year for a lot of us. I have been in similar work situations in the past, Mike. I think you are dealing with it far better then I ever did. I hope Donna comes right. Lone, That one was out of the blue. Myron, look after the little fellow. I dont really know what else to say. I hope you are all holding up well. Hopefully we can all sit around a table (or a zed) having a few coldies and say "remember 2002, that really rocked the boat...." All the best Guys, Douglas

Dan, I bought vol. 1 years ago and to be honest didnt get that much from it. It is not as well set out as some of the others that the grumpy fella mentioned. One of my favorites is "4 stroke performance tuning" by A. Graham Bell. Its not engine specific but bloody good reading. I still learn something every time I pick it up. Cheers Douglas
  3. Want, want, want! Whats the bore and stroke on a 440 cube small block? Grumpy, If i remember correctly, you said a 4 inch stroke in a small block was a bit of a pain to fit. What needs to be done? Cheers Douglas
  4. Do you have adjustable camber plates? You can get or make some that will adjust for camber and caster. The caster adjustment just moves the top of the strut back. This way you dont need to move your crossmember and you can change it around so you can find what works for you. Douglas
  5. Howdy all, I went throught the headers buy ed site about a year ago and ordered his tapes and cataloges and all the rest. When this came up the other day and i listened to his tape again. He is very particular about equal lengths and not over sizing the exhaust. I belive he sugested the best place to start with a small block chev was 36inchs long with a 1 5/8 d. and 2.5 inch collecter. Now The husband of one of the ladys that I used to work with is way into v8s, nascar and in exhuasts. He has done a lot of work for the local race guys and agreed with a lot of what Ed says. I can give him a call if you want. Last time i was yakking he wanted flow rates on the heads and cam timing to set up the headers. I didnt, and still dont have this inf. yet so i havent talked to him for a while but if you can get me some specific questions i give him a call. Btw, Grumpy, whats your opinion on 180 degree headers or 180 degree cranks. I just love the sound but wonder if they are worth the effort. Happy easter all. Douglas
  6. Lone, As long as you get the angle of the stub axle close to stock and the track close anything is possable. You really would want to have it adjustable in all directions to set it up. As an example the front struts in my toyota are front wheel drive nissian sentra, Mazda rx7 hubs and brakes, escort rack and pinion on fabricated lower arms all with rose joints and camber plates. I had a bit of help puttibg it all together but the angles are all right and it should work well. BTW. Those of you looking at big brakes and 5 stud conversions shoul reallt look at the series 2 rx7 front hubs. Really nice unit. 11.5 vented disks and 4 pots and lite as. Cheers, Douglas
  7. Here are a couple of links: http://www.geocities.com/fulerzoo/zcarsofttop.html http://www.usq.edu.au/users/degroot/240z/Pages/nat2001concours.htm I have more but most are coming up as dead links right now. Douglas
  8. Howdy guys, Someone was looking for inf. on this swap. I cant find the post now. As long as you dont ask about wireing I might be able to help out. Send me some mail. Cheers Douglas
  9. It never came, But I think z therapy has one as well. Douglas
  10. Mr killer, I have a 350 chev in my 260 2+2. It doesnt go right now though. Check some past posts on chassis strength. I have had a few good yaks about it in the past. Like you, I also hate the roof and was going to cut it off, but after long thought and a bit of a wet summer I changed my mind. I might try to modify the roof so it looks better although I dont think it will be easy. I will keep everyone up to date when, if ever, I start. I would suggest that a conv. will handle as much power as you can put in it as long as you make it strong. I think John C. said the z like to bend in the middle so thats were you start. Cheers Douglas
  11. 2.5 liters if I remember correctlly. Jap domestic engine around 280 hp stock. Douglas
  12. We were yaking about backbone chassis and so forth a while back. Look for some chassis photos of a tvr. the have most of there structural strenght in the tunnel area. I have designed one for my 2+2 that I will start on the the moment takes me Douglas
  13. In the days before fuel injection su's were use heaps in draw through set ups. They seemed to be the Easyest solution at the time. Might be a little less fabrication as well. Douglas
  14. Fairlady, Use a four cyilinder. 4ag, 3sgte, 3tgte, 22r The later two should go straight in with the right parts. you will still fry the tires and might even make it around a corner. Finally something I know a little about Douglas
  15. What would you guys pay for a set of vette tail lights? c4 or c5 ithink would be the ones for me. Not to sure on that of coarse. I see mabye one vette a year here. Douglas
  16. What are they? Lookes like toyota corolla hatch from two body shapes ago. Douglas
  17. I have comp car downforce. It was pretty good but didnt teach me anything i didnt already know. It just kind of put them in the right order. Douglas

  20. Hey guys, Why dont one of you who lives in ca. call del west and find out whats what? I would myself but for the difference in time and expence. O, and did i tell I was going to the Melbourne G.P. for a week. Douglas
  21. Hey Zthang, You can get sodium valves in metals other then ti. The factories used standeard valve material and put the sodium in them. I dont know the difference between ti and less expensive valve materials when it come to transfering heat but i bet if you talked to race engine builders and designers it was a weight reduction they had in mind. Mabye Monsieur Grumpy Vette could shed some lite in this direction, And while your at it G.V., what do the indy and f1 fellas use to deal with crankcase pressure. Cheers Douglas
  22. Light to, around 300 odd lbs i think. Ligter then the 4 cylinder pinto engine. Being A toyota man/boy/fella for years i almost put one in a ae86 afew years ago. May still do it after i clean up the shed. Douglas
  23. I keep seeing the weight of the 215 buick/rover v8 and would really like to use one of these in a small car. Weight would be close to the vg. Douglas
  24. Nice Tony, Conversion components here in NZ make different shifters for the supra gear box. They say they have six positions for the lever. Measuring from the front of the gear box, where the bell housing bolts on, they go from 365mm, 390mm, 455mm, 515mm, 530mm, and 580mm. This might solve your need to remove metal and also give you a better gear change. The po of my z bent the gear lever all over the place to get it in a place where you could raech it, 350chev and supra gear box. I will be geting one when the time comes. www.conversioncomp.co.nz Cheers Douglas
