  1. Dwayne, There is a guy who works at the ellersile ymca names Meryn Davis. He use to race a 280zx and did pretty well at it. Anyway he is a good dude so give him a call at work( use the book, i dont have the number anymore) at tell him i said howdy. He knows his way around where to get parts and who to talk to without having to deal with most of the wankers at the z-club. I have only found one place that does kits for the z here but i wasnt looking for zx stuff. I will see if i can find it. It was in the south island some where. I'll do a search on yellow pages and get back to you. Btw, there seems to be far more stuff in aussie that may be worth a look as well. Douglas.
  2. Go the steel rods. The ali ones dont have much in the way of fatigue strength. The drag guys replace them non-stop. However......I think i remember seeing something about someone here runing some in there street engine. Douglas
  3. I would love to find a cheep way to do a dry sump. http://www.onthenet.com.au/~billzila/Welcome.htm This guy has made one but i cant find the bit where he has a the moment.Mabye thsoe that cant sleep can have a look. Btw there are some pretty cool sounds in the audio section. I wonder if you could link oil pumps togetger? Douglas
  4. Try some of these: http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/240z.html http://www.zcarparts.com/ I always liked the over bumper kit for the zx and almost bought one for mine yaers ago. The show cars guys seem to have a good range as well. Cheers Douglas
  5. Wow Michael, Somehow i missed you car. I thought I had been through petes sight with a fine toothed comb. I take it the local road safty guys dont mind the bar over the trans tunnel. The guys here are trying to ban roll cages on road cars for safty reasons. There thinking is that you dont put on your helmet while on the road and can knock your head. Hence i am going the backbone chassis way. The end result will be similar. Cheers Douglas
  6. It might be a bit hard to track down in the states but dont forget that toyota made a super charged version of there 2.0 lt straight six. Its a little larger then the mr2 unit and already set up for the 6. Douglas
  7. Look here, http://zclub.org.nz/nz300zx/index.htm Go magazine articles and then go to project z. These guys seem to think they solved the problem of getting one to hook up if i remember the article correctly. Goes to show that if you through enough money at something, sometimes it works. Douglas
  8. I had some linked on my other computer but that is in a box in my garage somewhere at the moment. But try some of these, http://www.safetydevices.co.uk/rollcage.htm http://www.cascadeautosport.com/rollcages.shtml http://e30m3performance.com/tech_articles/cage_symposium/cage_symposium.htm If you look at anything at all lok at the e36 on the e30m3 sight. Awsume. Its made me want to go and play with my cage some more. That should keep you going for a little while. I really like the bmw design for the front, but it could be overkill. All of these will work with out the sheet metal, but will be a little stronger with it. I just did a search on "roll cage" + "super touring". Heaps came up. You could also use a front end designed for, or similar to the mustang/pinto drag set up and the cross brace it to make it stiffer. That might be more in line with what you are thinking. Enjoy Douglas
  9. Loneinsacto.........Sounds like a guy with one nut to me. Douglas

    7th injector?

I think it can work, altough I have never tried it. You will never get the fuel spot on though. I have read about it being used in turbo cars with a switch (hobs, i think) that opens the injector only after a certain boost level has been reached. Cheep way to do it. Douglas

    piranha kit

Lone, How did you get that photo of my mother in law? I hope she doesnt find out. Oh well i guess thats why we have two nuts to start out with. Douglas
  12. I have some made some plans and it will solve that problem. It will go through the firewall and also tie into some rear strut braces. I will do the photo thing when i start. It will be around four to five months away though. My workshop is full of my house crap while my house is being built. The house was suposed to be finished in november and i still only have foudations in. and for good measure Oh well, this will be the last one i need to build. Douglas
  13. Len, Got a some nice pinot noir here. Would go nicly with those hens. Hungry as well. Douglas
  14. Eric, Try doing a search on bmw. 635 csi or m6, They all had bbs rims. Douglas
  15. I have thought about this one a lot. I would like my 260 to be kind of like a speedster. No roof, low windscreen etc. I will probable make a back bone chassis that is welded to the trans tunnel and then will pick up the suspension. This will also require some crossmembers like you describe inclosing the tunnel. No matter what you do to improve it you are going to be in for some welding. What about seam welding and a bit of bracing like they do for the convertibles? Cheers Douglas
  16. Yep. I have only made one cage. There are guys here that know far more than I so hopefully they will give you some more inf. Have a look a nascar cages, and also super touring cars. There cages are wicked. I will see if i can find some links for you but i cant get to it right now. Cheers Douglas
  17. I would tie it into the cage for sure. I like it done like the racers. Top of strut to inside cage just below the windows. Another tube from the top of the strut to the lower floor mounting for the inside cage. Then go from the top of the strut straight down to the frame rail. Most good race cars are like this, some will also run a tube from the top of the strut forward as well. This should also have a tube over the engine as well, but that will probable have to be removable. One thing all the books i have read say is NEVER PUT A LOAD IN THE MIDDLE OF A TUBE. Good luck. Douglas
  18. Ron, What engine do you have? Is the cooling system modified? Douglas
  19. If it is a civic,i dont know the difference, there are some guys around here putting the city turbo engines in them. Sounds kind of fun. Douglas
  20. It would be cool but.............Can you fix it when it breaks? By this i mean, would the cost of doing a timing belt/chain change be the sane as putting in a "domestic" donk? Douglas
  21. The rack on my 1979zx was behind the x-member. I dont think datsun would mout it in front for us cars, Would they? Douglas

    3.1L

I have often wondered why if a 4 pot l engine can be taken out to 2.4 lts why cant the 6 pot be taken out to 3.6? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Douglas
  23. I may be a bit off becuase i dont know anything about holleys,BUT..... I have never seen a carbed car with a fuel return line. Thats why they run low pressure fuel pumps. Douglas
  24. Well, I was going to show you the Del West web site but the don apear to have one. Here is a adress and phone # Del West Engineering 28128 west livingston Valencia, Ca 91355 ph 661 295 5700 fax 661 295 8300 I think price is the major reason they are not used. You would need a different material for your valve guides as the ti will gall with the usual stuff. Honda and others now use it for there rods on hi po engines. It would be nice to have that ford of yours up near 8000 rpm. Better get some. Douglas
