  1. OK Grumpy, Im building a 350 for my 280zx. I plan on using Trickflow heads with probably a Holley 750 carb. The car is going to be completely track used. I need help putting together a parts list so I can get approved for everything at work. So if there is any insight you would be able to give me that would be great, this will be my first time building a motor. I work at Summit Racing, so with my discount I can pretty much go all out on the motor. I was thinking about 400 horse to the wheels with either a turbo 400 or a powerglide.
  2. Im going to be picking up the 83 280zx turbo soon, and was wondering what are some tips that I should do before trying to start the car up? The car has sat for the past 6 or more years without moving. Anything I should do for sure, besides the normal fresh fuel and changing the oil. Should I pull each plug and squirt some oil into each cylinder and allow that to sit in there for a couple of days just to make sure none of the rings are stuck?   5. ok, im getting a 350 block bored 40 over, and a chrysler rear end with 4.10 gears. all for free, not going to get the powerglide, think Im just going to find myself a TH400
  6. Does anyone know of any place that would have fiberglass panels? I was thinking of going this route since Im making a drag car out of it. The lighter I can make the whole car the better, especially if I can find a FB hood.

  8. I have an '83 ZX and the car has the typical rust, especially coming from Ohio. Does anyone know where I might be able to find fiberglass replacement panels for the Z? We dont have the junkyards are here that would even still have a Z sitting in them, so metal panels are going to be hard to find as well, unless I can find a donor car. Thanks for your help. Adam
  9. Just and update, a guy that I work with picked up 2 powerglides tonight. I think I might buy the one off of him, he said something like 50 or 75 bucks. And believe that I may have found a 350 block with crank for free, so that is definately a plus. Would I be ok using the stock crank, or since Im replacing everything else do it as well.

  11. another question. does it matter if i just get an early 350 gen I or should i get the gen II LT1? whichever i get im going to completely rebuild.

  13. also forgot to tell ya which motor. Im going to be using an LT1, i was doing some searching and seems alot of people are going with the 4L60E. with that tranny hold up to the power im wanting to make?
  14. Ok, Im getting a 83 280zx from my wifes grandmother. The car has been sitting for years and has your typical rust. So we have decided to make the car into a drag car. I would like to do the 350 swap into it. First and foremost Im going to get the JTR manual and read the thing front to back. Im going to go with a single carb and automatic tranny, only going for like 350 hp to the wheels. My biggest problem is, I have never built a motor like this before and not sure of everything that I would be needing to build the motor, and what tranny and rear end would hold up. I work at summit racing and I will be able to up how much I can purchase with my discount since Im going to be doing a project. But I need to get a list together to present to them before I can get approved for the increase in purchasing amount. If anyone on the site would be able to give me a little insight as to somethings that Im going to need to accomplish this I would greatly appreciate it. TIA Adam

  16. ya i read that thread before.. i forgot to put what i was using the car for..this is going to be a strictly drag car, not for the road at all. i can get the ls1 and tranny for cheap, prolly even cheaper then what it would cost to rebuild the original l28. maybe this would be a better question. which would be the easiest way to go? as for the swap or taking the time to rebuild everything and then try to figure out all the wiring. im leaning towards the ls1 mainly bc i work at summit and they have anything i would need.
  17. Thinking of putting a 350 in the 83zx, instead of the old L28ET. Which would be better in the long run? The original drivetrain would need a complete rebuild, and the 350 i can get from a 96 firebird and also the tranny for it. Not sure that I would keep the EFI, i would more then likely go with a carb on it.
  18. ya i now, especially just sitting outside in the yard the whole time. im sure the floors are junk. i did find a site that sold the floors and frame supports for 400 shipped which isnt bad at all, and the fiberglass kit with bolt on front fenders, bumper and quarters for like 1300.
  19. OK, I havent been on this site in about 6 months or so. Definately alot of reading to be done in the near future. I can get this 83 280zx turbo that has been sitting in my fiances grandmothers yard for some time now. I can get the car for free and they even said they would help with money to fix it up. But the car has been sitting for prolly 8 years now and the body definately shows it. The body defiantely has rust on it, and hard telling what all is involved with the drivetrain and electrical. I think Im going to try and get the car outta the yard in the next week or so. It was my fiances uncles car and he passed away about 15 years ago and they dont want to see the car just junked. So do I go about making it a driver and fix it all up? Or do I strip the car down, add some fiberglass fenders and quarters to it and make a drag car outta it and race it in his memory. Im sure either way would be fine with them as they just want to see it being driven again. If I go the latter route with the car, getting parts and everything would not be a problem. I started working at Summit Racing back in November and the deals I get are definately worth it. So if it is a drag car, do i build up the turbo motor, or drop in a v8?

  21. im using a mac, so i have the gas station widget on it...and i have found it just this weekend for 1.83 5 miles from me, and now its about 1.93 right down the street...
  22. if im not mistaken, i know it said hybrid on the front drivers fender, but not sure if it was hybridz or not...
