  1. Just bought a pair of vents from Skillard. Real beauties. But you have to buy a pair. (On a different note, I'm going to be cutting my 240Z hood to install them. What is the distance from the top edge of your hood to the top of the vent? And from the center line of the hood, how far are the vents spaced apart? Figuring the one vent must be over the rear SU carb. Thanks.)
  2. I don't have the choke lever installed anymore.
  3. I have them. Not sure if they'll actually prevent my nose from breaking against my steering wheel in a major accident. That being said, it was a more comfortable option to the original lap belt set-up which guaranteed to break my nose against the steering wheel. I'd also be interested in other options if you find them. Thanks.
  4. Thanks. I have that DVD. I bought my SU's from ZTherapy. Doesn't really address my issue though.
  5. Running my L24 with SU's in a '70 240Z for track and street. After driving the car for more than 30 minutes, the idle begins to decrease. Like if I start the drive with the idle set high, around 1100 rpm, after driving it or multiple run sessions on the track, the idle will lower towards 900 then lower. Then if I'm caught in stop 'n go traffic, the idle sometimes suddenly just drops out and the car will die. Thoughts? Thanks.
  6. I run my 240Z on the street and track with 2 sets of belts installed for my fixed back Cobra Monaco seat. The 3-point retractable belt from Motorsport Auto works great for the street and easily tucks away for track events when I use my HANS-friendly Schroth 5-point system.
  7. I have the Toyota 4x4 set up in front with Project Mu brake pads and Silvermine kit in back running under 15" wheels. The Silvermine clearance is super tight. about 1/8" clearance. I can't run wheel weights on my rear wheels. But I did it because I run my 70 240Z on the track in extreme heat conditions. Like 30 minute run sessions at Willow Springs in 100+ air temp. Or going from topped out at Auto Club Speedway into a 2nd gear braking zone for turn 3 into the infield. If you're running your car on the street, you don't need to upgrade the stock fronts or rears. The rear drums are perfect if you keep them tuned properly. Same for the fronts.
  8. I've been tracking my 240Z at triple digit speeds for the last 3 years in the dry. Huge stress on the car. All good. A couple fishtails in the wet won't hurt it as Mr. Coffey said above...
  9. Has anyone replaced a stock 240Z gas cap with an aviation-style fuel cap?
  10. Autopower roll cages cost twice this. Beware...
  11. Auto Club Speedway inside straight. Thanks to John Coffey and his (old) Beta Motorsports.
  12. Go with the Silvermine rear kit. It isn't cheap but the stopping power is amazing and you won't have to bias away from your front set-up either.
  13. I thought the only difference between the rotors is that one is 5 lug and the other is 4 but I may be wrong. I bought the vented Centric Front Rotors, part #CE121.42034 from Auto Parts Warehouse. They work great with Toyota S12W calipers with spacers I bought from Silvermine. I needed some shims and some tweaking of the SS brake lines to make it perfect. John Coffey set it up for me. It rocks.
  14. I just had the Toyota 4x4 calipers installed with vented rotors up front and they fit fine under my 15" Rota RB wheels.
  15. By the way, there's another option for the Toyota calipers and vented rotors for race days -- PERFORMANCE FRICTION. One of the top pad choices for Porsche racing worldwide. The pads are racing only due to the high operating temp.
  16. I was running cooling ducts through my front air dam to my calipers when my Porterfields cracked at Auto Club Speedway but had no issues with the Project Mus in the same set-up. When you think about, a stock 240Z brake set-up is the ultimate heat test -- tiny brake pad over a solid rotor. I had the opportunity to compare pad performance at my two favorite tracks and found the Project Mu pads made the Porterfield pads look like crap. Now with my new larger caliper set-up and vented rotors, I look forward to outbraking other Z's on Porterfields. Cheers!
  17. I'm running Project Mu HC+ with my new 240Z brake set-up -- Toyota calipers in front, Silvermine kit in back. Operating range for the pads is 0-1,400+ degrees F. During last Saturday's 90 degree day (130+ track temp) at Willow Springs raceway in 30 minute run sessions I had zero brake fade and zero noise. They're over double the cost of the Porterfields but I think 10 times better when it comes to stopping distance, consistency and wear. I ran the Porterfields last year with my stock front brakes and found them inconsistent, especially running the Auto Club Speedway roval and braking from 100+ to 30 at Turn 3. After the event, both sets were cracked. Then I changed to the Project Mu's and couldn't believe the difference. And now with vented rotors up front, I barely got them hot at Willow. Best of all, since the Project Mu's don't squeal like the Porterfields, I can drive them on the street without causing the neighborhood dogs to howl. Check 'em out. You won't ever want to run anything else again. And you'll forget all about that extra six pounds the first time you step on your bigger brakes IF you get the proper rear brake bias. Without that balance, it doesn't matter what pad you run up front.
  18. Agreed. Last weekend at the Willow Springs big track, I ran remanufactured Toyota front calipers with my reman' Pep Boys master cylinder and new Ford Mustang calipers in the rear (the Silvermine kit) which all worked perfectly. But a new exhaust manifold gasket delaminated. It's all a gamble.
  19. It took about a week for it to show up at the store. The label on the box says, "Fenco." http://www.partcat.com/fenco/index.php?refresh=1
  20. It's part # M51837. But you don't need the part # because they can look it at the parts counter via the car model/year. I could only order it in the store, pre-paid.
  21. I special ordered a remanufactured 15/16 without the plastic reservoirs through Pep Boys for under $50. If you give them your old core, you get a $10 refund. Now installed in my 240Z with Toyota 4X4 calipers up front, Silvermine rear kit, vented rotors all around. Works AWESOME!
  22. Thanks for the info. I think I'll try to find one locally here in L.A.
