  1. You definately are asking way out of range of any 4cyl. Especially one that is N/A. Definately any engine you do decide on, besides as someone mentioned earlier a motorcyle engine, is going to need mojor internal upgrades. You'll need high compression pistons, larger cam, all new valve train, port and polish, blueprinting, balancing, the works. You would definately be better off settling for an 8cyl to reach your HP range your looking for, or use a very-well built 6cyl to reach the RPM's your looking for and close to the HP torque range. HOWEVER, with very much time, connections and knowhow, my dad manage to build a Chevy 327 that would reach 14,000 RPM running off pump gas and N/A. The motor was put in his 77 stingray, the car was so fast he reached 175 on the freeway before the car decided the tires werent going to stick anymore. So, my point is anything is possible as long as you do your homework and look outside the box and search for a rarer motor such as the 69 327 I have that with just new pistons (stock bore) lighter rods and Vette racing cam it spins over 8000 rpm making 400 hp and 407 lb/ft of tourque. Using slightly modified Chevy 305 heads bringing the compression ratio from its factory 9.4:1 to a whopping 11:1. The engine puts 300 hp from the factory. Lets see how many 60's 350's can pull that off. -Mario
  2. Yea I didnt think I was the first to think of it. But it popped in my head so I wrote it down. I definately figured someone did a Vortech 8 cyl, just didnt think someone has done a 6 cyl. At least I know I had a good idea
  3. So yea, I hear everone throwin 350s or strokers, bigblocks, turbos, ect...ect... into their Z cars. Here is an idea, tell me what ya think. Putting a Vortech V-6 into a datsun Z. Yea its not a V-8 or anything but you gotta admit the motor is very impressive. Now add a cold air, or better yet, force feed the Vortech, headers, cam, ect... You could have a very streetable, very powerful, still relatively light little Zcar right. Throw a 6 speed Vette trans behind it, LSD rearend, 3" exhaust, the thing would be a beast!! Suspension mods, roll cage, the whole works, and best of all, it is a shorter block than an 8cyl, so it would sit a little closer to the firewall wich would keep more of the weight centered to the middle of the vehicle. Giving you better control in a long sweeping turn and also giving you just a little more grip to the rear wheels, wereas an 8cyl, especially a big block would weigh down the nose of the car pulling weight and traction from the rearwheels. I dont know, just and idea I brainstormed lookin out at my brother-in-laws 2000 Vortech Chevy Cheyenne. Tell me what you think. Just curious on how many others can agree with me on this one. -Mario
  4. I had the same problems when I first got my Z. I did as everyone told me, went through and cleaned all connections and also found myself in some spider webs of wires from the previous owner. Straightend out what I could and also removed, slightly adjusted, regrounded and reinstalled the AFM. Beyond that, the one thing that fixed most of my problem was cutting off the Cat. exhaust, and muffler, now I can get to about 6000-6500 RPM without stalls or backfires. My only problem now is my AFM likes to stick to wide open when I floor it. Is it possible to rebend a bent AFM flap or does the whole unit just need replacing?
  5. Hey I know Im probably about to sound stupid, but you gotta understand this is my first Z and I am very unfamiliar with its format and options of modification, but can anyone give me a pretty good understanding of "megasquirt"? Ive realized it has to have something to do with the intake, and fuel injection system. -Mario
  6. Whats that big weird hemroid looking thing coming out of its butt? what are the possiblities of it being stuffed. And comparing it to the size of the guy standing next to it Id say its only about 8 or 9 feet. But incredible non the less.
  7. 1. A datsun 510, mildly modded, comfortable buckets (cross country) 2. Full-out N/A datsun Z, older model, track body-kit, wheels, ect..(hot-spot) 3. Down the autobahn, I would want a Koenigsegg CCR 4. Down the strip, have to be a chopped, channeled, beast of a 32 high-boy. Lake-pipes, hemi, munzi 4speed 5. Id tour italy in a Beamer or Bently 6. Mildly modded engine, highly modded body, 280Z track-car.(daily-driver) 7. My SUV would have to be a Yukon Denali 8. My dream car is a 1970 Chevelle SS454 Best vehicles I can think of...
  8. So yea now as it sits the 280 is half sanded back down to the original sky blue and primer, next will be fine sand and primer, it will probably live in the primer state for a few months, at least until I can get it to my brothers shop for paint. Finally got it running pretty close to right, just need the new AFM, it likes to stick wide open, it has a pretty bent flap in it. I cut the exhaust off just before the cat so its not being choked on that anymore. Im looking to get a sweet Magnaflow system on it hopefully within the next couple weeks. I have decided that this motor will stay in for a few, at least until it cant take anymore, my plans with the spare is gonna be high compression piston, light-weight rods, bigger cam, throttle body and injectors, header, and ect... Im hopeing to try and squeeze as close to 300+ HP on straight motor. With this engine still installed I plan on spoiling it with new wiring, hoses, high energy coil, plugs, and wires, maybe a cold-air and if I can find one for cheap to free a header. Nothing crazy just a little more than stock. Ill keep posted as I get deeper into this car, any tricks of the trade someone can supply would be great. -Mario
  9. So yea Im new to this and cant figure it out really but hey soon enough. Anyway I am also new to the Z world. Ive always liked them and just finally got one of my own. It is a 1976 280Z 2+2. Has the l28E with a 5speed. I have a pretty good understanding of the car right now but still can use more. Its an old tired car and of course has its problems. Not to mention the privious owner sucked an air box full of water through the intake. So my problem right now sits at me needing a new AFM. My question, how much more would this damage?? Also I do have another L28 that was rebuilt a couple few thousand miles ago but has been sitting for a few minutes. What could I look at getting myself into doing the swap, anything that will have to be changed and how much can just be reused. My goal for this car is a road and track car. Nothing crazy, Id like to keep it N/A, maybe high comp pistons, bigger cam, ect... But of course I need to get it running right first. I am VERY short on cash so Id like to try and learn any and all short-cuts to get it there, you know cheap replacement parts and such. Any help would be much appreciated. -Mario
