ICV = Idle Control Valve? Is that one? I've heard of the idle control valve on my BMW, do Z's have them at all?
  2. Would buying a NA 280zx car help in anyway for creating a 280zx turbo car? Any of the electronics useful? Block and head is totally different from my understanding, yes? Is the manual tranny in a NA car the same T5 in the turbo?

    FAQ Acronym Page

Is there a acronym page somewhere? Can we start one? In all my reading I'm continually baffled and don't want to ask what something means. Maybe when I have a question I'll just post it on this same thread. Please add along if you've got others I'm sure there are. AFM = Air Flow Meter CDI = Capacitive Discharge Ignition COP = coil on plug CTS = Coolant Temprature Sensor EBC = Electronic Boost Control EDI(S) = Electronic Distributorless Ignition, add an "S" and it stands for System EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation FI = Fuel injection HO2S = Heated Oxygen Sensor HP = Horse Power IAC = Idle Air Control IAT = Intake Temp Sensor IC = Intercooler MAF = Mass Air Flow (meter/sensor) MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure More Rust than Mull = Huge Amount of Rust MS = Mega Squirt MSnS-E = MegasSquirt n Spark-Extra NA = Normally Aspirated O2S = Oxygen Sensor OHC = Over Head Cam PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation SBC = Small Block Chevy SBF = Small Block Ford TB = Throttle Body TPS =Throttle Postion sensor LCA = lower control arm UCA = upper control arm TC rod = tension compression rod or strut rod SFC = subframe connector L28E=Naturally Aspirated 2.8 Liter 6 Cylinder L series Found in 280Z L28ET=TurboCharged 2.8 Liter 6 Cylinder L series Found in 280ZX L28et=FI (forced induction in this case, not fuel injected-that one can get confusing really quickly-the t on that motor is for turbo) E=EFI Motor Used on the end of Motor type (Eg l28E) L26E=Naturally Aspirated 2.6 Liter 6 Cylinder L series Found in 260Z L26=Naturally Aspirated 2.6 Liter 6 Cylinder L series Found in 260Z L24=Naturally Aspirated 2.4 Liter 6 Cylinder L series Found in 240Z VG30et=Z31 (chassis code for early 300zx) single cam turbo engine among others in the non-us market VG30dett=Z32 (chassis code for late 300zx) twin cam/twin turbo and possibly other models in non-us market Rb20/5/6det/tt= these engines came from various skyline models as well as some others, generally nissan nomenclature works like this: the number is the liters (i.e. L28=2.8 liters) the e is overhead cam, de is dual overhead cam, and the number of t's indicates the number of turbos, but not always, as in the case of the Fj20e which is a twin cam that doesn't have the d in it. 2jzgte=supra twin turbo engine from the mark IV supra and possibly some others in the non-us market 1jzgte=single turbo variant of 2jzgte available in some non-us toyota models 7mgte=mark III supra single turbo engine
  7. Where do You get your ZX distributor cap from and what brand is the best? I was looking for Bosch in Orlando, FL but didn't have anyluck w/stocking one or ordering one? Is there a better brand out there?
  8. Does this equate to a good unit to turbo? That is the Intake?
  9. I kind of like this setup. I wonder what this would cost?
  10. I think I'm leaning more towards SDS than MS. I just seems easier. Unless of course there are links out there for completed units? I not in any kind of mood to solder. I was planning on FI first then turbo later. If I run MS or SDS I can eliminate the AFM all together just for the FI?
  11. I've heard that the 75 intake manifold is better if you want to get into the turbo side. Is this because of porting or because it just looks cleaner? Can the Throttle body and associated electronics w/ the AFM be interchange from 75 to 83? Looking at changing from SU to FI, then turbo, but want to start w/ baby steps and limited budget.
  12. So any difference in the way the A/C performed once installed?
  13. Yes I did search. Maybe I did it poorly but I didn't find my answer. My question is how many of you are running A/C and an Intercooler? (240-280Z) For those of you who had A/C before the IC, did you notice a difference once the IC was added? What Kind of plumbing issues are there? I don't have either yet but I just want to get all my info straight. Thanks
  14. 1. Pull the plugs and squirt a little oil in the cylinders, regular motor oil and let it sit over night. I'd squrit a little more in it before you turn it over again. This whole thing may be worthless if the rings, cylinder was have rusted over 2. I would by pass the fuel system altogether if possible. Tank is probably severally rusted, fuel filter bad, etc. 3. You need new battery obviously 4. Pull the Air filter apart make sure no criters crawled inside the intake. Shoot some gum out cleaner in the throttle body to make sure it is clean 5. Turn the motor over and see if it at least cranks, but make sure the fuel lines are off or electrically disconnected. You don't want to clog the injectors any more if there not clogged already. 6. Make sure the distributer are disconnected. Just pull the cap off or unplug. 7. If it turns over, pretty easy, id then start looking at the fuel system and getting that cleaned out. 8. Most likely you will need to replace or coat the tank. I'm sure this something i missed others please chime in/
  15. I'm thinking paint first, A/C, Interior, motor. It runs great. Small stuff here and there. I guess eventually I'd like to have it has a mid 12's car. But everything I'm reading cost $$$. I just want it fast to enough to beat anything stock coming out of production. I got beat by mustang GT not to long ago. Older one, that I think had some work done. It justs kills your ego! I guess more so than anything would be just to see the look on peoples facings. I'm amazed at how many people come up and talk to you about the car. Mike, what do you want to build me a mid 12's motor?
  16. The car is sweet. I love driving it minus the a/c. And thanks again for selling me the rims Mike. I couldn't come close to buying anything like those for the money.
