  1. just bought my zg flares from msa before i read this thread. are they the same flares? are these higher quality? i see that they are the same price and i am wondering if i should cancel my order from msa and order them from classic datsun?
  2. uh, id love to have some pics of the engine, and the fitment. looks like some good work so far.
  3. Thanks for the help. I've noticed that several people here have bypassed the AFM and added a CAI. Does that mean that the AFM is not needed as well? Or were these all 240Z that I was looking at? I'm really trying to straighten up my engine compartment, and I'd love to throw away that AFM if I don't need it. It'd make it easier to install the TB too. I could just sleeve the J-pipe (or whatever that is) of the CAI over the TB intake. EDIT: There is a plug at the bottom of the AFM that made me think I could not live without it.
  4. Hi, First off, I am not that mechanically inclined when it comes to cars. But that's part of the reason I purchased a Zcar, to learn. I did do a search, and while this is a popular topic, I don't think there is too many threads asking my specific particular question. So, I'm going to install the 60mm throttle body I bought from a member here a couple of weeks ago. This is my first mod to the completely stock L28 in my 78 280Z. First off, I need a larger diameter hose to run from the AFM to the throttle body, where or what should I use to make this? Secondly, there is what I think is the PCV valve hose coming off that stock hose, do I need to make something to re-use this? or do most people just remove it all together? And lastly, being a California car, it is equipped with a BCDD, I don't see anyway to reinstall that, so I'm going to toss it, right? (good riddance) Most importantly, if I do just end up removing some of this junk, do I need to cap off any of the holes, or what? Thanks for any and all help.
  5. how wide are those rear tires? they look massive. i like it
  6. Oh man, does anyone have a recommendation for the Tampa Bay area, FL? I need rust, dent, and paint work, and it scares me to just take it anywhere.
  7. anyway you could give me the dimensions for the bracket? id like to machine muy own, and id be able to if i had proper diomesions.
  8. pop is 100% correct, if carbon build-up is indeed causing a higher compression in the combustion chamber, then higher octane fuel will cease the excess detonation. that said, anyone using premium fuel for no reason is pretty much throwing money away. of course, if it makes people feel better, more power to them.
  9. id like to echo the comments of the people who find this favorable. im doing a rolling restoration, and probably will not pull my engine for a while, or until it blows up, and i would love to paint it then. that said, i intend to roll on some rubberized paint/bedliner in my wheelwells and underneath the chasis.
  10. [/url] Yeah, so I just started really working on my car, and it still looks crappy, but those are some pretty sweet rhino ramps
  11. woah, what front air dam is that? i may have to pick that one up
  12. I laser cut flat stock stainless steel for a living at my job, and although we don't work in the automotive industry (Marine industry, mostly) I could definitely cut these if someone were to send me a CAD file, or give me a dimensioned drawing. I would, however, need to know how many and what size they are for nesting purposes and cost. Let me know if I can be of any help
  13. well, thats partly true. i like to get parts from the JY if it will cover the core charge on the new parts. although this can turn into lots of work for little return
  14. Well, I hope that is it. I plan on changing the gear oil anyway, so I'll take a look at it when I'm down there. It just seemed so strange to me that it wasn't leaking onto my garage floor. Thanks a lot.
  15. I’m looking for some suggestions as to what to check on my 1978 280Z 5-speed. The situation is, I just bought the car last week, and after inspecting it when I got home, I saw that there was an oily substance all over the rear differential that definitely was not there when I bought the car. However, it was a two and a half hour drive to get back to my house, and this is not my daily driver, so I just decided to keep an eye on it. To this day, it has not dropped an ounce of any liquid on my garage floor, where it spends all day and night parked. But the other day I drove it to a friends house, and left the car running in his driveway as I was not going to be there very long. After what some would say was a “fast acceleration†out of his driveway, he later called to tell me my car had left a puddle of liquid near the rear tire. I’m guessing this was the rear differential, because of what I had seen earlier, and he confirmed that is where it looks like it would have come from. Now, I know that the R200 is considered Bulletproof, and mine only has 115,000 miles on it, so I don’t think it’s shot. Furthermore, it really doesn’t make any noises or clunks. I’m guessing it could be a seal or perhaps even the filler or drain plugs themselves. Anyone got any good ideas?
