I have one, $250 + shipping. PM if interested. Thanks.

Roger: I am always interested in experiences concerning grooves. Did your fathers 283 have grooves in the cylinder heads. If so please describe. More about the "Flame Trails" if you can. I have seen pictures of heads that have the groove and been run and they appear clean. Maybe that was because they were not run for an extensive amount of time?
Honestly, I doubt there are pics anywhere of that engine. It was all I could do to find a couple of pics of the car. I wish I knew more about it, but the car was smashed by a Ryder truck when I was five years old, and by that time the 283 and 4 speed were long gone in favor of a family man's 327 and th400. All I do know is that the old man who built the engine had quite a reputation and EVERYONE my dad knows talks about standing a nickel on end on the air cleaner and spinning the thing to 8000 rpm without the coin falling over...WOW!

Back to the grooves. My fathers 13.5:1 283 had "Flame Trails" on the piston domes and chambers. That thing was built in the early seventies, but stories told about it say that it idled smoother than stockers and ran low 12s in a '55 chevy wagon with absolutley no weight reduction.

83 tail lights and coil, 80 bucks plus shipping.

Congrats Tim, that car is a handfull.. you should be proud. I'd be a curb-hoppin, grass-slingin, rooster-tail shootin fool on a wet track with it.

Just shoot me a pm if you wanna go to the varsity or something. My Z is still being built, but I bet I can get some cars/people together.
-
Derek, don't beat yourself up man. This thing is AWESOME!

Hello, I'm going to marietta soon and I'll bring one along for $50. Sound good? PM me
-
I have a n/a five speed and if you wanna come pick it up and give me 200 bucks you can have the stock 240 springs. I'm just east of Atlanta.

JSM's clutch should work fine, as long as your '83 is not a turbo. I also have a part to donate. I'll give you an exhaust manifold in good used condition. I can't pay the shipping but I will clean and inspect it and send pics to a real email upon request.
Good luck,
Roger

I'm seriosly contemplating investing my retirement savings into this car... the depreciation couldn't be worse than my bank stocks, could it?

I would go to The Varsity on thursday night. It is much closer to where you are staying and there will be alot of cars there. Sometimes you'll even see a street race.
-
Hi, I have stub axles from an 83 zx. Not sure if thats what you need, but I'll let them go for $75. I'll work with you on the shipping too.
Thank you

There was an audi running a flat crank a few years back (totally against the rules). They got away with it for a season or so by saying it was a factory crank HEATED AND TWISTED to change the angle. It sounds crazy and I really don't know first hand. Thats just the story told by my local VW/Audi afficianado (also known as tech support).

"Bore is 83 mm (3.3 in), and stroke is 83.6 mm (3.29 in)"
How is the stroke longer in mm, but shorter in inches? Maybe you should rethink the following: "but everything I ever read on wikipedia was true so I kinda trust it."
Kidding, sort of, but seriosly "mainly I want the watch the tach to very slowly go up at first and then when it gets 3500, 4000, 4200 and then it just flies to redline, lol". If that is all you want maybe you should get a front wheel drive. It does't take much power to slam to the redline if you have no traction.

Which quarter?

There was a guy on here a while ago running compression in the 9's with a stock zxt setup at 7psi. Don't know his name but you can search and find pictures of his pistons in a threat where he said the thing spooled fully at 1200rpm.

Yeah, it's ugly, but it sure does cut the lawn well.

Well Paul - those Rebello worked Mikuni 44's are feeding YOUR work to the MN47 head. Car runs like a bat out of hell! Can't wait for racing season!
I'll vouch for bat outa hell. One of the nicest purpose built engine bays in the thread. Oh I almost forgot "This car screams ARREST ME!"
-
That story is almost as good as your signature... "how could tell the difference?".
Thanks for the laugh X 2.

Do you have any use for my first born, because I don't. But I would give just about any thing for one of those manifolds. WOW! Just beutiful. Keep it up Derek!
-
what head would you use? I have a n42 intake with a n47 head some people have told me that the n47 is good and others say it is bad what do you think?
If you do the reSEARCH everyone is suggesting you will have enough information to draw a conclusion. In other words there isn't a "Bad" or a "Good" head. They all have an application.

I have a spare '82 rotating assembly, and both 4 and 5 speeds with a clutch/flywheel with about 15-20k on it. Shipping will probably suck, though. Just let me know if you can't find one local.
