  1. ok i talked to my friend again and did some more searching. it apears that ford made the engine he was talking about, or atleast the block. after looking a little i found a formula one car with a ford v12. from what i can come up with the engine is a P142 60º V12 with a displacment of 2.998 liter / 182.9 cu in. im still looking because i dont know if this is the same one my friend was talking about because he made it sound more popular. since this one is a formula one engine i figure, fat chance of me ever seeing one. but hey doing these seaches i learn a lot. ferrari made a 3 liter v12 at one point. anyways anyone know anymore about these engines?
  2. yea i was thinking about the glare issue with the aluminum. im not sure exactly how i would deal with that but i figure i can find someway to tone it down. im starting to get an image in my head of what i want it to look like but im still working it out. i think what i might do is mabie do the aluminum wood mix and then pit a custom dash mat down on the very top to let the shiny part show about where the curve would start. ither that or some type of light over coat that might take some of the shine out. I thought about fiberglass. i have worked with it before, doing boat hulls, but its a lot of work when you get into big parts. plus im looking more for a rustic, older look with a hint of moderness. i might do a few small parts just to get some shapes but other than that im going to wourk with something that will fit in with the theme. seems like the more i think about it the more things i want to do, i guess the trick is to filter the ones you can do and cant do.
  3. ok why is there no forum for interior? anyways my car needs a face lift and me and my friend were brain storming. i just thought i would see what everyone here thought and if anyone had some cool ideas to add to the effect. the plan basicly is to go with a shiny metal and nice wood mix. my dash is cracked and we were thinking of covering it with a few peices of very thin aluminum moulded around the form of the dash with some type of texturing. where the peices come together i was going to use some type of nice wood to cover the seams. to replace the sterio i was going to take that strange shaped hole and make a wood finish for it. the doors would most probably match the dash, but thats from lack of any other ideas. the center armrest thing we were thinking of carving something out of a block of wood. other than that we are still kinda brainstorming. i dont know what im going to do with the seats mabie keep the origional color. my car is difficult to match since both the exterior and interior are a burgundy. any cool ideas that wont cost me up the wasoo? im not turning the car into a race car so waight isnt that big of an issue. im more looking for the effect.
  4. hey guys i was thinking about posible engines for a z and came up with an idea. what about a small displacment v12 with twin turbos. i was talking to my friend about it and he mentioned that some kart company makes a 3 litter v12 but i can find anything on it. anyone know anything about it? i think that would be one sweet ride if it was done right.

  7. hey i have a little problem.... i just got my 81 280zx running. it had been sitting for close to ten years, and i dont know much about how the earlyer owner treated it. i went to check the differential oil and both plugs are compleatly stuck. i used a breaker bar with a pipe attached and i still couldnt get it. i then tried to take the hole thing out of the car and all the nuts on the drive lines are stuck as well. what can i do?????? i have no clue what the oil is like in there and im woried if i keep driving it im going to damage it. i dont have another car to drive so im kinda stuck with it. any ideas would be a really big help!!!
  8. Terry, i love seeing photos of your car. it is a real work of art and a big insperation. Your very right that a subtle change can really make or brake the design. I hope i have the patence it takes once i finaly get to do something big to my car.

  10. that sucks im always woried about my car right now because i dont have the right key for the doors so i cant lock it (i lost the key and had to replace the ingnition lock so i could drive). i have been lucky so far though because my car looks like a pile of shit on wheels. i just make sure not to leave anything valuble in it. i dont even have a sterio right now. if anyone brakes into my car not only are they ass holes but they are morons too.
  11. my car has a crap exhaust system thats rusted to hell and i just dont like the set up. i have a 280zx 2+2 and i dont think the exhaust is origional after the cat anyways. my question to you is what is a good system that would replace my crapy ones well keeping it smog legal, and give me a nice non ricy solid sound. i want to go twin exhaust but i really dont want to deal with trying to fidle with it to much, if i dont go twin then i want to go about a 2.5-3 inch exhaust. any ideas?
  12. i have been working on this car for awile and i just got it running about 3 months ago. it has a manual t-5 and it worked great for a little bit and then started to act funny after a little while. here are the siptoms.... when i drive the shifter shakes from side to side, i can twist the shifter bar almost 90 degrees, when i shift it used to slide into the gear but now it catches on something for a split second and then gose into gear. can anyone think of something thats wrong with it? i was thinking that the shit linkage is lose or something like that but i dont really know anything about transmitions. also if the differential was starting to go bad could it cause the trany to have problems? i cant see how it would but i have reasons to beleve the diff has something wrong too. any addvice would be great thanks for the help.   13. ok i just replaced my radiator on my 280zx2+2, its a manual and i got a radiator for an auto. it works fine but now i have those two little tubes sticking out at me all the time and i got to thinking what could i posibly use them for? i was just wondering if people thought it could be used as an oil cooler or would i loose to much oil pressure? or with it going into the radiator to cool of would i mess with the tempurature to much in the wrong way? just an idea i thought i would toss out there. any ideas?

  16. yea thats a good chunk of stuff to go over. ill have to start on it next time i go home. as for the fuel filter i replaced that. and i checked to make sure the fuel line had gas (that was fun sense i cant depresurize the system without the car runing)as for the intake it is clear and should be working good but i just read something else that gave me an idea i had the hose for the intake to the airflow meter just atached loosely and i just read that the way these air flow meters are is that they sometimes need a little pressure to work. so i will also try tightening that up. i think my main idea is that the exaust is cloged. i just hope to god that its not the computer its self.
  17. o also the fuel pump is working we checked that when the thurmotime switch was still broken and there was no signal to the coldstart or injectors. my first thought then was that the fuel pump isnt working. now there is gas getting into the cylender and there is spark but it wont start so i think ither the injectors are messed up and arnt makeing it misty or the exaust cant get out. or at least thats how i am thinking about it. any ideas would be a big help im at a loss other than my 2 ideas.
  18. thanks for the idea but thats not it this car is compleatly stock. nothing was changed on it. i guess it could be that the injectors need to be cleaned but it ran when they were taken off the engine so in theory it should run now im trying to think of anything that stayed on the car (the person i got the car from when he took the engine out of the car he took good care of it but not of the car ) anything on the car sat outside in the weather for about a year. the exaust is my main suspect. i think im going to try takeing the muffler off and see if it will run with out it. if it were cloged could it cause this problem? there is some pressure comeing out the tail pipe but not much. i think it rusted up inside and is now cloged with gunk and rust dust.
  19. ok i have to say my opinion is the z cars are not rice at all. now there comes a point were it can become riced. i know some of you said that riceing a car is braging about what you dont have. i want to go with this as my opinion too. i think that it is ok if you have a 302 or some v-8 of some size to put a sticker on the car saying so. if you have something flaunt it. but i also have to say its so much more fun to not put it and build a sleeper. when someone comes up next to you and wants to race to let them hear your exahust and smell your fumes and let them try and figure out what happen. at the same time i do have to say i like the look of z cars when you post some sign on your window weather it be just a datson/nissan or the size of your engin followed by a z. but it is stupid to lie about that size because you will scare away anyone you could beat. and attract everyone you cant. stay in your own leage or prepare to eat dust.   23. yea the weight is a big plus. i still dont know what im going to do with for headers, i know that because atleast with the ford blocks there are problems with getting them to fit. i will have to think of something there. as for all the fuel injection stuff i think for now im going to go carburated so i wont have a chip. im mainly doing this because of money. as it is im not sure when im going to start the project and even when i do start it its going to be in stages. anyways im actually kind of the same way with fords im more a chevy guy when it comes to other cars but with zcars the fords just my choice.
  24. yea i have just been learning about the 400 block. like i said earlyer in this subject i was told wrong about them. when i started this post all i knew about them was that my friends 1972 chevy caprice has oneand my god that engine has power i love that car. the low end torque is the best part of it on his engine. i think that would be a fun engine to put in a z car but once again i think i am going to be trying to make this thing nice and light and try to give it good balance and for that the 302 is just better.
