  1. If I put a p90 head on N47 block using either a 1mm or 2mm head gasket, do you have to shim the towers? I do not plan on shaving the head. I want low compression for a turbo. Also any other tips on swapping the n47 head with the P90 head would be great. Thanks...
  2. I have swaped to the R&P system. I used a 83 cross member and rack. I had to grind the steering shaft at the joints a little bit because it would bind. The car has a lot of under-steer.Droped almost 100 pounds geeting rid of the gearbox and links. The rack is a semi-manual rack. I am running it with out power steering. A little hard to turn at slower speeds but on the highway it is excellent. I just purchased a full manual rack and pinion ,with cross member and shaft( which is the longest shaft) for the early 79ZX. I plan on installing it later this year in an effort to get rid of the under-steer. I will probably install a camber kit and a caster kit to also help dure the under-steer condition. I am a manager of a Firestone store so I have an alignment rack at my dispossal.
  3. Does it have 1 ear on the tail housing? The 80 tranny has a 0.773 5th gear. That's 130 more rpm's than the 81-83 tranny at 80mph on my app. When you have a 4:11 rear it's a big difference. What kind of price are you asking and what is the condition and milage on the unit?
  4. I'm looking for a transmission from the years 81-83 N/A 280zx coupe . It must be from the years list above. I have a 4:11 gear in my Z, the tranny from these years has a 0.745 5th gear. My 77 5 speed has a 0.864 5th gear. 550 rpm difference at 80 mph. The 81-83 trans only has 1 ear where the 77-79 has 2 ears on housing. Thanks... Kirk
  5. Want some compression numbers? Try 250 per cylinder. I have a 77 motor using the comp pistons and a stage 2 cam and a 2mm gasket. I about craped myself when I read those numbers.. Anyways I put a nissmo cam sprocket on and retarted the cam 6 degrees. Brought the compression down to 225 per cylinder. I run hi test and methanol injection....mega squirt....runs awsome.
  6. I got rid of my powersteering rack and opted for a full manual. Frees up space , weight , and horse power. Got use a little muscle in parking lots , but I like it.
  7. No, you are correct. The older Z cars have lots of modified parts made for them. The early ZX cars....not much offered. I always have to make my own Mods. But it is well worth it.
  8. I'm glad to see this thread. I was pondering the thought of an RB motor so I could get 300 whp, but seeing the set ups with the L28 turbo with dyno figures has changed my mind.
  9. is jim cook racing still in business?
  10. I went to a metal shop and an hour later I had 2, 30 inch long frame rails with 1 inch edges to tac weld to the floor boards. Only cost me 70.00. Perfect.
  11. Sometimes owning a s130 can suck because there is less aftermarket items made . Bulldog doesn't make frame rails to fit. Where can I find u channel or tube to make my own frame or over lay the existing one for my ZX. Kirk
  12. Has any one been brave enough to try this V-band turbo kit on e-bay yet? Being Ebay, as usual , it seems too good to be good.
  13. I need one, Fun to have an older car....sucks to get modified parts.
  14. wouldn't I want to use a 77 head gasket to block the holes . Isn't the cooling holes on the n42 block different than the p90 head?
  15. I want to make sure a p90 head will work on my 77 (used to have n47 head) block. I noticed 2 water jackets will be blocked by the head gasket. Will this cause a problem? Do I need to do anything special where those holes are?
  16. Well that is good info. I hope to find a P90 head and go with it. I would be very happy with 300 rwhp. Thanks
  17. I forgot to ask if the stainless valves in my N47 head will work in the P90 head?
  18. That sounds like a good plan . I also have snowperformance water/meth injection kit on the car. Every little bit will help. Thanks
  19. I plan on putting a turbo on my 280zx. I have nissan flat top comp. pistons in the block. If I switch from a N47 head to a P90, is a .796 drop in compression ratio worth the swap. Also cam I use the cam from the N47 on the P90 head?
  20. I have searched and search but can't find a direct answer , is a P90 head ok to put on a 77 block? I also want to know if the stage 2 MA camshaft I am currently using on my N-47 head is ok to use on the p90 head. I want to turbo the motor but don't want to risk the chance of the exaust liners breaking in to pieces and slaughtering the turbine, at least that is a concern I have read about. Thanks......
  21. From what I understand the neo rb25 has 30 more hp tham the rb25 33. I also know the neo has more emissions. I guess the neo has a better head design?
  22. I know I will have to modify alot.....I've been down that road before(megasquirt to name one). I've talked to Mckinney also. I'm just curious about the drivability and lonevity, more than the cost.
