  1. Yeah... right underneath the plug for cylinder 6. Pretty clearly engraved L28! Guess my 260Z FSM has a couple more useless chapters now! - Greg -
  2. So if the stamp on the block of my 260Z is right, someone dropped an L28 in it. It has twin round top SU's. If the tach worked, I could tell if it crapped out at 6K! Gotta love old cars with unknown histories. This one is full of surprises... - Greg -
  3. Yeah I think the nimrod was towing in neutral without the key in the ignition. The wheel locked and well.. you saw the rest I see guys towing cars with a strap on the highway here in Tucson all the time... absolutely crazy IMO. - Greg -
  4. In case you were wondering... http://www.ebaumsworld.com/2006/12/car-getting-towed.html - Greg -
  5. Yeah I would think you could cut covers for both lights out of the 11"x17" piece. I think you need the positioning spray too. For anyone that wants the direct link - http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=10227 - Greg -
  6. Thanks Tony... thats a great reference. www.griotsgarage.com sells some super thick 3M film for use on headlights. - Greg -
  7. Ok things are looking clearer now. The charcoal canister was indeed removed because the line is on the passenger side but open. The evap system appears much more advanced than the 240Z system. Since I dont have a carbon canister, I think my next step is to replace the fuel cap with a sealing one and plumb the vapor line into the intake. Probably need to find a vacuum valve too and connect in the crankcase like the 240 setup. I also read up on the electric fuel pump in my FSM. Didnt realize it would have such a detailed section on it. It is in fact serviceable and has an internal filter. Guess that's my next step. - Greg -
  8. Go to www.photobucket.com and get a free account. Then upload your pictures and link to them when post. - Greg -
  9. Well $25 at a really cool machinist and $10 of gloss black powdercoat and here's what we have now: Special thanks to John for the free fill plug. That and now I know there's a Tucson Z club! - Greg -
  10. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AE86-510-240Z-260Z-280Z-16x7-Datsun-Konig-Rewind-Wheels_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43955QQihZ010QQitemZ200064508367QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW 0 offset, nice price... They weigh in at 16 lb each too. Anyone interested in a group buy? - Greg -
  11. Ive got the Factory Service Manual for my 74 260Z, but honestly Nissan has come a long way over the years in writing service manuals. This one is really hard to locate information, the diagrams arent nearly as detailed, and I couldnt find a very clear diagram of the PCV system that mentioned the fuel vent. Oh well... thats what you guys are for, right? - Greg -
  12. Righto.. Hella's it is - Greg -
  13. You know... the previous owner must have added a fuel return then. There is definitely a line returning to the tank off the "fuel rail". Does the stock 260Z gas tank not have a return line on it? Now Im wondering if the gas tank was replaced. There are 3 fuel hardlines along the frame - my assumption is feed, return, and vent. There's definitely a fuel smell coming out of the vent line in the engine bay. If I plumb this back into the intake as it was intended, I should be able to reseal the gas cap, right? - Greg -
  14. Anybody tried these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissan-Datsun-240Z-280Z-Z-Diamond-Projector-Headlight_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33710QQihZ015QQitemZ250068993240QQrdZ1 - Greg -
  15. Since I'll be going EFI eventually, I dont want to replace the stock electric fuel pump. I suppose I should check to see if it actually broke or if the nimrod just cut the wires for fun. I just cant see why you'd leave it in there if it's not on -- you'd think it would restrict flow. Really curious about the gas cap now... I looked closer at it and the hole looks like it may be drilled. Why on earth would someone do that? - Greg -
  16. $2250 for my 1974 260Z. Seems like a lot, but you pay not to deal with rust. That and it runs. Actually the worst thing on the car is the shitty paint job that will be blasted away this year. Anything rubber on the car is completely dryrotted and has to be replaced too. When I took apart the rear suspension this week, I swear it has less rust than my old 95 200SX SE-R did. Not bad for a 32 year old car. - Greg -
  17. Actually I do have a buddy with an MSD box on his turbo Sentra SE-R (mounted in the engine bay, though). It has performed well for about the same time as yours. His was the only positive data point that I had heard. Maybe the MSD boxes have declined in quality over the past few years? - Greg -
  18. Upon closer inspection of my fuel filter, I realized that the electric fuel pump by the gas tank is disconnected. The lines are all still connected (tank-filter-pump-line to engine). Im thinking I should just pull the fuel pump entirely and connect the outlet of the fuel filter directly to the fuel line. I have read that the electric pump is there to avoid vapor lock issues. The car seems to run fine with the pump disconnected, so can somebody explain what Im missing out on? The old school gas cap doesnt make an air tight fit. It has a small hole in it -- should it? The evap line in the engine bay was also disconnected from the air cleaner and crankcase. Could this play into vapor lock? Thanks, - Greg -
  19. Same here... I've heard the Crane units play a lot nicer with sensitive Nissan ignition systems than MSD boxes. - Greg -
  20. That would be a huge help if you dont mind! - Greg -
  21. It's a pet peeve of mine when people say brake improvements are required for high hp applications. Braking is determined by weight, not horsepower. Yes you can hit turns hotter with more horsepower, but the power isnt the real reason for the poor brake performance. I agree 100% with all the other comments on modulation, bite, heat dissipation, etc. The stock Z brakes have terrible feel -- mine will be replaced soon! - Greg -
  22. Aha! That explains the 5/16" barb on my crankcase vent tube! So are the three lines just teed together or should there be a valve? - Greg -
  23. The temperature isnt going to be an issue, but I'd be concerned with the quality of the finish. You could go with a "hammertone" finish to make it look more even. Or you could have the block polished. Thats going to be pricey but is the ultimate bling - Greg -
  24. This might be a silly question, but I can't seem to find the answer in a search. Are the Rear LCA's the same (L/R)? Mine are -- just want to be sure before I go powdercoating them. The left side is just flipped over from the right side. I can't see why it would matter which one is "upside down". - Greg -
