Wow didnt know the Veyron was sub 3-second 0-60... that's freakin impressive. I stand corrected - Greg -

new VIDEO!!! after some good tunning on the Megasquirt........
MrFancypants replied to big-phil's topic in Non Tech Board
20+ psi is a bit much for an internally-wastegated setup to handle. I'd definitely go external, since I know you dont want to dial the boost down having tasted that kind of power! - Greg - -
Anybody read Japanese? Part numbers show up in the RB20/25 section. Im guessing you've lucked out! http://www.nismo.co.jp/products/productguide/r32/partslist.html - Greg -

They should film a Veyron vs. an Ariel Atom. The Atom would smoke it up to about 150 mph and then the Veyron would fly by - Greg -

Congrats Phil... unboosted cars just won't satisfy you now. It's like crack cocaine! It could have been the audio quality, but it kind of sounded like you had a little compressor surge going on during shifts (flutter). What BOV are you using? - Greg - -
A buddy of mine got a copy of his book signed for me years ago when he came to Phoenix. Wish I had gotten to meet him too. Bruce seems like one of those guys that would be funny in real life -- his acting seems like his natural personality. I've noticed the connection between Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, but didnt know they were childhood friends. That car trivia is off the hook! Ever seen the TV series Jack of All Trades? That was some funny stuff... Damn.. looks like the webmaster busted my link to the audio clip. Oh well -- just rent the movie! - Greg -

I started using this nickname when I joined online forums several years ago. It's basically a reference to one of my favorite movies, Army of Darkness. If you havent seen it, you should. Here's a clip of the movie that inspired the name: http://underworld.fortunecity.com/playstation/190/army13.wav - Greg -

Havent seen the guts of a RWD Nissan tranny, but sounds like they have the same Achilles heel as their FWD tranny (3rd gear). On the FWD, it's 3rd gear on the input shaft that fails (strips teeth). Cryotreating, shotpeening, etc. will help make the shaft stronger, but ultimately the cause of the problem is case flex. The case flexes such that the input and main gears do not mesh perfectly (they spread apart), and then teeth shear off. Try taking off the bell housing and reinforcing it with pourable metal epoxy (McMaster Carr). - Greg -

Unemployment Insurance: what a crock of $hite (rant)

I know it's debt, but do you qualify for a Canada Student Loan? Interest free until youre out of school. Welfare and UI are a scam. Best if you just consider it a donation. - Greg - -
Anybody know where I can get the detailed parts fiches (preferably electronic soft copy) for 240Z/260Z/280Z models? Courtesy sells the full FSM's on CD that include the parts fiche, but I just want the fiches as I already have a hardcopy of the FSM. - Greg -

That one looks pretty good. It's a cast iron oil-lube design so it will be quiet(er). The CFM output is pretty good, too. I'd recommend going with a dedicated 240V setup though. It will have double digit CFM output. A 120/240 compressor will run cheaper on 240V (lower amps), but will still be output constrained. Check out the Campbell Hausfeld VT6271. Only dedicated 240V portable compressor I've seen. The motor/compressor is the same as their big industrial 60 gallon version, but on a smaller portable tank. It's also the one I have http://www.campbellhausfeld.net/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10051&productId=60827&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10537 - Greg -

Who is the greatest cartoon character of all?
MrFancypants replied to Oldestzguy's topic in Non Tech Board
Man Ive been trying desperately to find it but it doesnt seem to be posted anywhere on the net. If you havent heard it before, grab a copy of DJ Keoki's Speed Racer (Porno Mix). It'll make you pee your pants laughing. I had it in an email years ago but it's nowhere to be found now - Greg - -
Ive also heard bad things about the "fuzzy logic" controllers. The Blitz Spec S doesnt use fuzzy logic or self learning. It's just a straight gain setting (i.e. sensitivity). One other thing I didnt mention -- An electronic boost controller solenoid fails open (at least the Blitz does). The solenoid is normally open, meaning that if you have a malfunction, you just revert to stock wastegate actuator preset pressure. - Greg -

Just get a better quality 1/2" impact. The IR 2135Ti is a fantastic gun and will break 1000 ft-lb free. - Greg -

That's pretty cool... comes with Costco's Lifetime Warranty too. Wonder if they'll stock em in store. I got my aluminum floor jack at Costco and it's been great. - Greg -

16" Konig Rewinds
MrFancypants replied to MrFancypants's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Man... you can fit all the way up to 255 series tires on a 16x7... how big do you really need?? $90 EA Im very interested... please post up where I can get that price. Are the authentic Konig rims or knockoffs? - Greg - -
I guess different strokes for different folks. I tried different settings, normally depending on ambient temperature, wet conditions, etc. I never used scramble boost either. The Blitz gives you four presets, so in that sense it functions just like the TurboXS with two more presets. The other benefit is the EBC also provides a built in boost gauge. Saves you having to mount another gauge in the cockpit. It also stores maximum and has a retard function if you overboost your preset. Most importantly, you can adjust gain to make it more or less sensitive. I really think the EBC far surpasses the manual boost controller. - Greg -

You should be able to get the Spec S (good to about 18 psi) for around $300 new. - Greg -

There is a single electrical harness and a vacuum signal line that need to be routed into the cabin. IIRC the harness has 4 wires. In the engine bay you will have to mount the solenoid, route another vacuum line to the solenoid and connect the harness. Youre going to have to run wires for the stage 1/2 switch anyway, so you may as well go EBC. - Greg -

So my 260Z is practically rust free. Earlier in the week I was fiddling with the front diff mount and noticed the factory undercoating was flaking above. So I pulled on a chunk and a 4" round slab came off, revealing practically new virgin surface underneath. Im starting to think it's not worth the hassle to totally strip the car and send it to sandblasting, epoxy primering, and all that good stuff. Would it be a bad idea to strip the undercoating and have it redone with fresh undercoating (bypassing the sandblast/primer stage), and then handle the engine bay, body panels and interior with the full treatment? I am thinking this would make it a lot easier to do since I wouldnt have to fully strip the car and store everything while it's out for paint work. The other thought is, since the current paint is horrific, would it hurt me in the long run to have the car lightly sanded down and sprayed for cheap at Maaco, just to make it half presentable until I am done with all the mechanical work? I want to be sure I don't make the final paint stage more difficult by adding a layer of cheap stuff. Thanks, Greg.

Just get an electronic boost controll (EBC). Much better performance, and completely adjustable from the cockpit. I personally like the Blitz Spec S or R (depending on boost level). - Greg -

Gotta go with Fritz the Cat... first X rated cartoon - Greg - -
Ive only ordered online once with HF, and I definitely prefer going into the store directly. Their online/phone ordering system is cumbersome and their phone support isnt the greatest. Whenever Ive bought in store, it's been quick and cheap! - Greg -

Energy suspension moustache bar bushes
MrFancypants replied to RUSSJZ-ZED's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I just put these in and I dont recall the stamp in the bushing. The R180 and R200 mustache bars are different though. Have you already pulled the bar to test fit? I cut out the old bushings and sanded the inside of the sleeve smooth and the new bushings were a perfect fit. - Greg - -
L28 with a 240z 4 speed, which clutch kit!
MrFancypants replied to rchrd989's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
I think this is fairly on topic... Can someone tell me how I can check my transmission to see if it is a L28 or L26 tranny? After reading this thread, I have concerns that when a previous owner dropped an L28 motor into the car, they just bolted the old L26 up with the L26 clutch and TOB. The clutch grabs about an inch from the top of the pedal throw. It doesnt slip like crazy, so Im wondering if the alignment of the pressure plate is part of the problem. Please help Thanks, Greg.
