  1. I plan on reinstalling the differential tomorrow morning. Conduct a test and report back. Don't know if I said this in a previous post. But last night I started the car with the wheels on the floor car was in first gear I engaged the brake pedal the driveshaft stop spinning but I was still able to rev the car up. You would think that car will stall because the clutch wasn't engage but it did not. Here's the link to a short video of this the drive shafts spinning when the brakes are applied the driveshaft stop spinning.

  2. I have three 240z and a 67.5 SPL/2000 Roadster with solex package. My 70 240z is all stock with 54k documented miles,71 240z with a Ls1 out of a 2002 ss Camaro and the 71 240z I am working on now, I thought it was going to be an easy build now becoming a nightmare . I have not updated my profile in quite a few years

  3. Took the differential didn't see any sings of damage to the gears. I did find a peice of the clip for the passages side axel in the bottom of the housing . I held onto the stub axles as tight as I could, with my son turning the flang. Both axles turn for a bit than seam like they stopped but the pinion gear was turning for a brief period . Tighten the flang nut a bit.Had my son try turning the flang again, it seam like the the stub axles turns all the time now.I don't know if that really had anything to do with the issue I having. Other than reinstalling the diff.is the a good way to tell if ready to go back in.

  4. I placed the wheels back on the car and took the car off the jack stands with the transmission in 1st or neutral and the wheels on the ground the driveshaft isnt turning. I tried to turn the half shafts by hand while the car was on the jack stands couldn't get a good grip on both at the same time. I tried to turn them one at a time and couldn't.I placed a screw driver in between the u joints and was able to turn the axels both turn in the same direction. I made a video of the car on jack stands hope this helps.

  5. Also I'm not sure if I made this clear or not when I start the car I dont have to depress the clutch. The car will start with the transmission in any gear and runs, idles doesn't shut off. If I try to accelerate the car just doesn't move from the spot its in.

  6. I'm sorry for not being clear in my post but typing is not my strong suit

I placed a car on the jack stands with the car in first gear and running both wheels are turning passenger and driver side as well as the drive shaft and input on the differential my e-brake doesn't work that well however I did pull the ebrake cable all the way up and all three still turns. Also I can turn the wheels by hand while on the jack stands with the car in gear.

Newzed I appreciate you taking the time to help me through this issue

  7. I just took out the stub axles , I noticed the passenger side came out quite easily. I stuck my finger in the differential on the passenger side I could not feel the clip. I can pull the axle out with out a lot of resistance. Could this be the cause of my problem. How do I get the clip to drop down.

  8. Just did the test with the car on jack stands.the driveshaft turns,do you think the stub axles aren't seated completely. Although I try to pull the axles out by hand and they will not budge I think install correctly.

  9. The saga continues, I install the new axles today now the issue I am having is the car will not move. Place the transmission in reverse and off the clutch nothing happens .stick it in first gear and get off the clutch the car doesn't move I thought I might have some issues with the adjustment of my clutch I try that still nothing. I placed the car on jack stands I can see the wheels will turning . What is really odd is that the car will start while it's in gear no matter if it's 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th gear in Reverse I can start the car without having to engage the clutch. Also I can push the car while it's in gear, the car will roll down if its parked on a incline and in gear. Any ideas

  10. Here's an update on the axles. I filed a complain with eBay and PayPal,sent the part back. I seller contacted me and told he had sent me the wrong part and would send me another set of axles or refund my money. I opted for the refund, he sent me the refund on Saturday. I have ordered a set of Futofab axles hope to have them by the end of the week.

  11. Contacted the seller he told me that the twist in the splines are in the design. He said only the tip of the axles are actually used and that's why it was designed that way sounded fishy to me. He also told me that he doesn't give refunds I can send the axle back and he will check them and see if they're damaged and will replace them. I have not gone this route only because if he's going to replace them with another twisted axels I'm not getting ahead

  12. Thanks for the reply guys I had to take a few days off the car that's been frustrating me. An issue that I'm having with the axles there doesn't seem to be a snap ring on the axles Nor inside the differential the will slide in and pull right back out . Try piece of wood and my five pound sled hammer and try to get them to seat They just will not seat don't know that's my problem or not

  13. I bought a set hub stub axles on eBay for me Subaru 390 conversion into my 71 Datsun 240Z. After installation of the axles I took the car out for a test drive notice that at speeds of 85 miles an hour or higher there was a very violent vibration from the rear end. I remove the axles today for inspection and to my surprise I noticed the splines are not straight but a bit crooked I was wondering if anyone else have these axles off eBay.and are yours the same. Do you guys think this is the source of the vibration. I don't have the seller's name right now but he list them on eBay for $385.

  14. "Why'd you show a picture of the head and not the o-ring grooves?"

Here's some pictures of the rings that helps. I'm not building a race just the hot street car. I did lay the head gasket on the head yesterday. The o rings sits on top of the Rings in the head gasket I'm running it as is and see what happens

  15. Tony if I'm reading your post correctly are you saying that this head may not be the best for my setup as it's is prone to detonation.

Is there anything I can do to prevent detonation if I use this head.

  16. I had the Machine Shop check the CC on the head they told me is 47.5 but I don't understand how you go about figure out the compression ratio here is some specifics on my build.

  17. I'm in the process of building a N/A engine for my 240Z. The engine is an m42 block and a N42 head combination. The head I bought came off an old race car the head has copper rings around each of the combustion Chambers and has been ported on polished. What I would like to know is can I run the head with a stock head gasket, or do I special gasket thanks for your help
