Thanks Mario, I did relpace the return to a bigger one when I installed the efi system.
Pete do you thing 8:7:1 is too high?
-
Pete, I just checked the plate on the side of the block, I was wrong it reads 50 thousand. would you have any idea what that would make the compression. Also the pistons are dish

pete,
I did check the timming, and is's at 25 degree at 3500 rpms. Also the plate on the side of the engine that was placed there when the engine was rebuild by the builder has broed 50mm stamped on it. also I belive the top of the pistons had 50mm on them as well. Yes the pistons are dome. Are you saying the compression is not too high for my set up.
Thanks

I just got my 240zt running . The bad news is I can't seam to get the ping under control above 7psi. I have up the fuel and turn down the timing to all the way and it still pings. Here's a list of my set up
N42 BLOCK
felpro head gasket
BORE 50MM OVER
N42 HEAD
STOCK T-3 TURBO
370CC INJECTORS
SUPRA INTERCOOLER
SDS fuel only computer
77- DISSY. RECURVED TO 15 DEGREE OF TOTAL TIMING
BASE TIMING SET TO 10 DEGREE
MSD 6BTM BOX SET TO BACK THE TIMING OFF 3 DEGREE UNDER BOOST
A friend of my tells me the problem lay in the head as it not right for a turbo application, because of the "quench area". He said if I were to install a P90 head the car will not ping and I can up the boost to m goal of 14psi. Is he right. I thought there were people on here that have ran the N42 with a turbo with out any problem. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have always had the ground at the battery, I just check and it getting good ground as the relay click on and off when remove and replace the ground at the battery.

Well I just install my new relay board, still have the same problem. No power the EUC is not powering up.

I have had megesquirt installed on my car for a year now, and my car still does not run right. I have had to send my unit back to DYI AUTOTUNE twice for repairs. The firs time I lost and injector driver then coil driver. The unit has had problems controlling spark, it would run fine for a while then dies on me leaving me stranded. I had to have the car towed home three times. After fighting with the spark control for 9 mounts I bought a MSD-6BTM box, which give me reliable spark control, and just use the fuel side of the ECU. The car runs but I still have a problem in the high RPS range as the car would not rev pass 4800rpms. It feels like at that rps or higher the revlimiter comes on. I check an the limiter is not set. Saturday I was out driving trying to figure out the High Rpms problem when the car just died. Looks like I have lost the main power from the relay board. My experience with Megasquirt have not been positive, but there are a lot of guys that have good luck with it. The ironic think is I was the one that asked DYI to build me a 3.0 board and document it for other Z guys to use , also got my friend Chris to draw up the wiring diagram for the relay board that’s on their site. My box was the first one and the documentation in their web site is from my box.
megesquirt is a good product if you have time to play with it trouble shoot etc. But for a guy like me SDS(for what I have in this system I could have bought SDS a long time a go) would have been a better product as I don’t have the time to read and post on the internet when I have a problem. Which is some of the reason I have not gotten car running right one year after the install.

I don't have a spare before I order a new I thought to post just in case someone may have had the same issue and could point my in the right direction

I was driving yesterday when the car came to a stop. Got it towed home and checked it out. It's not getting power. from the relay board. I have power going to the board, also have power coming out from the key on 12v source. I checked the pins on the 37pin cable and have 12v key on power but no power from the main 12v wire in the harnes.(white wire) checked the pin on the relay board where the cable connect to and no power is comming from the board. I also check the main power fues and the power there, I check the three relays and I have poerw on three sides of each. I also check the red power wire where it connected to the relay board and there 12v. So I pulled the cable off the ECU. and check for power and all I have is 12v key on power, nothing on the main power from the Battery.Would anyone have an idea what may be going on.
P.S. The ECU is not powering up. There is also not signs of the relay board being fried

What are you talking about, did you even lookat the cable.
Thanks

I order a speedo cable for my 240z from VB. they send me one like this. I can't seem to get the white part to fit in the back of the speedometer. Have anyone installed one of these on their and can tell me how to install it.
Thanks

Len I did not use the lifters just the rockers, cam and lash pads. Looks like I need to buy new rockers and pads.
Thans guys
-
Yes the cam, rockers and lash pads are from a P-90a Head installed on a N42 HEAD. Would I be better off putting the N42 lash pads and rockers back in and run the turbo cam.
Thanks
-
I have a 76 280z motor that I turboed, I install the rocker and cam of my old turbo motor in the rebuild 76-engine. I have adjusted my vavles three times and can not get the car to not sound like a tractor.I was woundering if the niose is because of I'm running hydraulic rockers in a N42 head.

I dont think I mention this in my first post but my ECU has the coil driver but is not reliable thats whyI got the 6BTM. The megasquirt box have MS&SE install now,on Megasquirt site it said to turn off all the spark out puts and the unit will be fuel only. Is this how your is set up?
Thanks
-
280zforce, I'm confused, are you saying that if I don't install the control knob for the 6BTM, I can use my turbo dissy. If so how do I control timming, as I'm using the megasquirt for fuel only.
-
I have a 240z with a 77-280z engine (N42/ N42), 83 turbo distributor and T3 turbo out of a 83 280zx,with megasqurit. I have been having a lot of problems with the spark side of megasquirt, it has not been reliable. The car have spark for a while then no spark, dies 50 miles away from home when I'm driving and have to have it towe home. I bought the MSD 6BTM box to control the spark and use megasquirt for fuel only. What I need to know is how do I install the MSD box with the turbo distributor for megasquirt to get injestor pulse.
I have read the 6BTM would work with 77-78 DISSY, as well and would be an eaiser install. Have anyone used one of these boxes on their turbo car and is willing to help.
Thanks
-
yes my spark is inverted, dwell is set to 4.0,2.8 running amd .1. I have had problems with the spark for almost a year now. Thats why I have decided to run the Msd box and use MS. for fuel only.
Thanks.

I have been having a lot of problems with my 3.0, board with the coil driver. In looking for a solustion to my no spark condition,I would like to just run the box as fuel only and than run the MSD 6BTM sprak box for my timming. Have anyone ran that set up or is running this set up could you give me some feedback. I look on the megasquirt site for links to the fuel only code but could not find it. If anyone knows where I can find the fuel only code or how I can make my box fuel only could you please help me.
Thanks

The VB921 will only get warm if it is firing the coil. So when it dies, if you crank it, you get no spark? Or does it then start and run for a few seconds?
Yes when it dies I pull the coil wire and check and there no spark, Other times it will not run because there no spark, after it sit for a while it might run but soon dies again, when it loose spark
-
Pete, I just felt the coil driver and it's not hot. the car started for a few seconds and than die. I left the ignition switch for 4 mins. bofore i felt the coil driver.
-
The car have intermiting spark, it will start run for a litttle while no more than a min. if that long and dies. When I pull the coil wire and hold it body of the car to ckeck for spark theres none.
my dewell setting is 4.0, 2.8- running and .1
My coils is stock, I have the (+) hooked up to the (+) side of the fuel and the (-) to the relay board pin # 5
I just went o try and start it again nothing it does not have any spark.
-
I just cecked the throttle position and it reads 0 close and 100% when I push the peddle to the floor. Car still does not have spark.

Hi I have a 240zt that I'm thinking of doing the LS 1 swap to. I have been reading about the swap for a few days now, it's appealing to me so far. I was hoping there were someone in the area that has an LS 1 swap or any V 8 swap that I could speak to about their before I make a decision.
Thanks
