  1. i used to run 4x4.5 to 5x5.5 on mine (dont ask) 2" thick (tapered and had and had was stepped to center the 2 pieces it held up fine, but i just felt uneasy about it so took them off. set me back $200

  4. rebuilt the l28 and now she smokes, pulled plug and they have a light tan to them, check compression its equal across the board, checked oil for water, nope; checked for coolant loss with no loss, when rebuilt the rings were staggered like supposed to. whats going on? i know rebuilt motors will smoke for a lil while for new rings to seat but this is weird, i mean she smokes. sure compression is up quite a bit but what the hell is going on. this is a l28 w/ p90 head .09 shave, new rings (gapped em), new flat top pistons, new coil, new plugs, new bearings (primed oil system b/f startup), air/fuel ratio reads good (new o2 also), new valvestem seals (completely reworked the head at machine shop) new everything almost. also running rebuilt dual su round tops with sm's(balanced) <-----dont bash me on my carbs; it is my preference. note: i cant tell the color of the smoke; like a whitish grayish, im running on distilled water at the moment in the cooling system, too lazy to get coolant
  5. bad?, eh news to me, but then again i never really cared about doing bodywork to any of my cars till now. good call! well who can custom make fiberglass parts? who knows how to make molds to reproduce steel parts to fiberglass or cf?

  7. you are doing it the right way, i on the other had just dont have time and havent found a quick way to strip the paint all the way down, tried wirebrush, and aircraft remover. and both have sorry results. wirebrush=too long to do whole car; remover=too much money. you cant see it in the photos but this zx i have is a rusty sucka, rear quarters, half my floorpans, and not to mention the hole my spare tire fell through; but im cutting and welding in new sheet metal so who cares. btw i was wondering the same about the zg flares also, you should do a write up when you do it, thats if you beat me too it
  8. 50k for that? doesnt push not much further than 115mph? buy a couple of z's IMO. but it is neat none the less. 4 wheel motorcycle, that name clashes with itself though
  9. btw here are the seats i will be using. the lighting is all jacked up so they look faded<--------------they are not, they are pitch black with red stitching. i hate red btw, but i didnt have a choice, and the harnesses i ordered were blk, and they sent red, ironic? i think so . so the theme is blk and red now. i just have to let it grow on me.
  10. also incase anyone is interested, i do plan on designing and building a different style of rear suspension similar to the s30s as i used to work at a machine shop, if you have ideas shoot me a pm. i also think that the r. suspension has faulty points. if i dont redesign it i will make parts to improve it which makes it easier on everyone
  11. thanx for that guys. b/f when i first started me 280zx project 4 years ago, no one would help me and told me get rid of it and get a s30 and i said no. well, after a forum (not goin to mention name) had a thread going that said "somebody shoot this z" and i thought i was something stupid so i read it. that "z" was my 280zx. it broke my heart and i fought in the thread and couldnt win. i sold that z soon after b/c of it:( . all it was that made my z "ugly" was that i custom fabbed a side mount radiator <---- thats all. i really hate those guys for doing that to me b/c that was my first car. anyhow, i later bought it back lucky, but it was too late, it was trashed beyond repair. i later had that car stripped down and crushed. (just to note, i managed to get 11k rpm out of the l28 i built for it with SU carburetors, should have saw my face. i wasnt making power up there but it was a sight to see) the next 2 280zx i bought were a package deal. 1 parts car, 1 blown head. i stripped the parts car at the guys business and had it sent away. the other is the current car i have now with the engine from my first z in there (never sold engine when sold first car, held on to it). this car is undergoing body and suspension work. my last z was a complete rust bucket i got for $200, shortly after the purchase i sold it (wasnt worth fixing, needed a complete body) as you can see i have been a strong believer in the 280zx, but i dont see many people were in to it as i was so i figured i better get a s30. but now the only way i will buy that car is if the price is right. but my s130 is "THE CAR" for me.

  14. got bad news, this car is going to slow down due to the fact i will soon be the owner of a 73 240z some time this week. FINALLY.
  15. a friend called me and said he had found a 280z and thought i should look at it, he figured i could get it for $100; so i went to go see it. to my amazment it was a 73 240z with rount tops, full interior, no body damage, and everything is there nothing is missing. i didnt look for rust but i dont car b/c all my zx had heavy rust and i repaired them. but anyways i offer the guy $200 and of course he said no, and he would call me. he told me they drove it into the yard a year ago (salvage yard no one knows about). if he told me $500 i would buy it, heck if he said $800 i would. wish me luck. the conditions would be a 5 out of 10 due to paint and messyness james
  16. well since everyone else is doing it, i guess i could prove to you at the moment my car indeed does look like crap and thats what makes my car unique. Im going to paint it black, add 17x9 all the way round. custom 450lb coilovers, w/ new shocks, brute power clsd, camber plates, have new bucket seats w/ 4 points, and yaddy yaddy ya. just trying to keep it simple
  17. my zx is unique b/c i have had 4 zx's in 4 years and never truely driven them more than a (1) mile at a time. (never satisfied, always "back to the drawing board"). also lets not forget my current one looks like a homeless person is living inside.
  18. might not help you much, but i WAS going to flip mine to be right hand drive which would work imo, but i got lazy. but as far as the difference between an actual right hand vs. left hand i wouldnt know
  19. i remember when i bought my first zx, it did the same thing. for me the timing had jumped due to a bad tensioner. anyhow, i went carbureted (hate efi) and im happy. but that really sounds like a timing problem. like a spark plug or it's wire is faulty. did you also check your dizzy cap and rotor?
  20. did you guys check your vacuum advance on the dizzy (possible vacuum leak keeping timing from advancing with rpms rising)
  21. ok, fixed carb problem (used 70 float tops), now all i have is a timing problem to fix, and fine tune of carbs. timing i can do well, but fine tuning of carbs i need help. does anyone know how to tune su carbs for z's properly b/c i pulled the spark plugs and plugs 1,2,5,6 are fouled and plugs 3,4 are fine.
  22. yes on the zx. simply put i HATE fuel injection on these cars. out of the four z's ive owned either the wiring was bad or the actual hardware is bad. btw i used to run megasquirt 2.2, it was nice but there is something about su's that i like more. no leaks anywhere
  23. two days ago i filled my tack to a 1/4. just started it up to adjust the carbs maybe 4 times. now i reads empty, last nite it was 1/4 still. this is the second time. wtf?! i guess i have to replace the filler cap with a new one so i can lock it....
  24. i made the mistake of selling my first z, for years i regreted it, but luckily i found it and bought it back only to send it to the crusher due to damage. if you want more power; boost it dont sell it. lesson learned here. but i my case i sold my first car b/c i was made fun of by fellow zthusiests due to my engine set up. but you know what i missed that damn care and i got it back, but it was just too late. anyways i prefer all motor even if its less then 200rwhp i dont care. so boost it, v8 it, rb it, put jet engine in it but if you sell it, you will miss it and i guarentee that.
