  1. That is possible too - also rather questionable ethics, but at least the turbo would be of somewhat better quality. Unless they're selling the parts that they rejected and couldn't send to Holset...
  2. If they're not afraid to cross the line into trademark infringement and sell counterfeit parts, I have serious doubts about their commitment to quality control too. Why should they be more ethical in manufacturing than in marketing?
  3. Try using the download-firmware.bat program that comes with MS1/Extra code instead of HyperTerminal.
  4. Could you post the complete error message you had? That will be very helpful in figuring out what's gone wrong.
  5. There is a guide to the MS2/Extra firmware here: http://www.msextra.com/ms2extra/ In particular, you may want to look at this chart that compares the features. http://www.msextra.com/ms2extra/MS2-Extra_general.htm#features
  6. A 6-1 crank wheel would work. But with a wheel that spins at cam speed, you need a tooth to trigger each cylinder. The minimum number of teeth you could use would be a 12-1 wheel. I suppose punching a hole in between each tooth could work (except one) but you would need to be careful with the alignment.
  7. That particular one doesn't provide cylinder identification. You'd need to use a different sensor like a 36-1 crank wheel if you want to ditch the distributor.
  8. GM sensors have two wires, one for the signal to the Megasquirt and one for ground. So they don't have to be installed in a grounded part.
  9. Could you post your complete MSQ file? If you haven't started tuning, I'd recommend updating to the latest MSnS-E firmware, 029y4. It's got a lot of extra development put into it.
  10. You might want to check the forum sponsors, too: DIYAutotune 36-1 trigger wheel
  11. FYI - the shielding on the ignition wire is a third ground wire. Either one ought to work.
  12. Are you getting an RPM signal in MegaTune when you crank it?
  13. That's correct. It's an MS-II setting. A complete data log will be helpful at spotting noise sources, since you can check several different variables at the same time to see if the noise is confined to one input or not.
  14. Check a data log and see if you have your acceleration enrichment kicking in. Maybe your acceleration threshold settings are a bit too low?
  15. Could you post your MSQ so I can check the ignition settings?
  16. Quite doable; this engine uses Ford's 36-1 trigger wheel. You can either run EDIS or wasted spark (I've heard the Ford COP coils even work in wasted spark if you wire the coils in series). Check out this article for configuring Megasquirt - I wrote it for a line of trigger wheels we sell, but these wheels happen to be the same as the Cobra's trigger wheel and are to be installed in the same orientation. http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_articles/trigger_wheels_overview.htm
  17. The MS1/Extra manual covers most of the mods you'll need: http://www.msextra.com/manuals/MS_Extra_Manual_Index.htm
  18. The middle LED will only flash if you have set up some very specific settings in MegaTune. Are you getting an RPM signal?
  19. Interesting - doesn't look like there's a drastic drop in the warm up enrichment at that point, so it's probably a hardware issue rather than settings. You'll need to check what components are getting hot.
  20. Could you post a copy of the MSQ file? Also, try taking the top off the Megasquirt, and identifying which component is getting hot.
  21. That log contains a very real reset - it looks as if power to the Megasquirt was interrupted when the ECU was supposed to be on.
  22. Could you post a data log? I'd like to take a look at it.
  23. Thanks for sharing! That was the same car you brought to the Challenge, right? Just wondering - what changes did you make to the shutter wheel?
  24. Or better yet, you can press the space bar while logging - this puts a mark in the data log. You can then go over the log and check which cell you were in at that point.
