    Broke my R200

You didn't really mention if your 73 had allready been converted to R200 or not... Is it the stock R180 you toasted, or a R200 that was previously swapped in?
  2. Thats some serious meat under there!!!! Guys, click on these 2 links and then the pictures will show up in the thread for you. Weird Geocities voodoo. http://www.geocities.com/paul_richer/new_wheels/wheels1.jpg http://www.geocities.com/paul_richer/new_wheels/wheel.jpg
  3. 13 seconds is not slow for a street car! Like Im sure you've noticed, there isn't much that can keep up with you on the streets, and barring a McLaren F1, those that can take you in the straights won't be able to keep up with you in the turns!
  4. Well with a humble writup like that I can't imagine how I can not be in the low 13's when I get my car going...
  5. Ah, thats better! I was thinking you hit the JATO rockets just after the 1/8mi with times like that. Scotty, thats a seriously quick car you've got going. How about giving us the rundown on it? Stock zxt engine at 14psi in a 280z? Any lightening done to the 280? Stock TB?
  6. Huh, interesting. I didn't know such a beast existed. Who makes those Mike?
  7. I'm not expert at drag racing by any stretch... But an 11.268@80.477 (1/8mi) sounds really slow, yet you still pulled out a 13.615@101.132 (1/4mi)??? Am I totally out of it?
  8. Dan, have you contacted DrewZ to see his car? He's in regina with you... He's got a 260Z with 350/dual TBI setup. I'm sure he can help you find someone in town that can do the work for you since he was in the automotive buisiness for quite a while. Plus you should see his $50 car! LOL. Search here, or email me for his email address/phone number/etc.
  9. I think everyone is missing the point... this isn't supposed to be a high HP car. I suppose the SR20DET would be a neat swap with light weight and a bunch of power potential... but with $20k and not supposed to have a lot of power... I would seriously consider putting in a stock 280zxt engine. 180hp/200ft-lbs stock. Still a very fast car, but 180hp doesn't sound like a ton so your parents might not mind. I'd make sure you had the best brakes/suspension/chassis etc that you could get however. Overbuild those components compared to the power the car will have, and it will be a safe car to drive fast. (stops well, turns well) Then put some money into a decent stereo, alarm, interior work. Reupholster the whole interior. Could be a seriously NICE car to cruise around in, handle great, stop great and be no slouch in accelerating either. Oh yeah, in a few years when he wants more power and car afford it, there are a ton of cheap mods that can be made to net an additional 70rwhp or more. Maybe not a unique engine, but with that money there are a ton of other things you can be doing to make the car truly unique. [ August 12, 2001: Message edited by: Drax240z ]
  10. Hey Vinh, you want to let us know what the problem and solution was so that we don't make the same mistake down the line? Have you always been in phili? I thought you were a california dude...
  11. Yeah it was John who was going through that. He also had some pretty brutal main bearing wear after a relatively short distance due to the tension put on the crank nose from the belt. Seems like everyone has their favorite between turbo/supercharger.
  12. Isn't speedracers car allready hosted here under featured cars?
  13. I would be apprehensive about dumping money into rebuilding an engine that you want to replace anyway. That said, the turbo swap coule take a while to finish, so it comes down to how long you want to have to drive the omega for. My turbo project is at 16 months or something silly like that. Also if you are doing the turbo thing with the stock ECU, try to get it all from a car that you know runs, so you can be sure you won't have any unexpected surprises.
  14. 8K US... It can take you far! Budget $3000 for the car, and find the best, most rust free car you can. This will save you thousands later on, not to mention a bunch of frustration. That leaves you $5k for engine, suspension, brakes, chassis. I'd suggest doing vented & rear rotor conversion, coilovers, performace struts, urethane bushings, and a 4 point cage as a minimum. I'd say that will leave you about $2500 for engine. Find a junkyard turbo motor/tranny, spend a few bucks on an SDS and maybe a few other engine mods. This setup will be fast, handle and brake well, and with the SDS you'll have lots of room to grow power wise. A few bolt on mods and you can push 300rwhp pretty easily.
  15. Looks like the skyline pan to me too! Why not just go with the earlier (R32? - whatever the last RWD skyline was) pan on the later RB26 engine? Making a pan (or having one made) really isn't that difficult/expensive either.
  16. I've heard the number 18% used as the rough power potential difference between a crossflow and non-crossflow head. Thats quite a bit!
  17. Looking at everything, I think Ross's new setup is superior to the old maxima bracket anyway. 240sx rears, and a bolt on bracket that doesn't require dissasembly of the rear end to put it on. I looked for the old maxima stuff up here a while ago and had ZERO luck. Its just not worth the hassle when there is another option that is the same price and easier.
  18. Welcome guys. I wish I had been more gung-ho and into cars when I was 15! (seems to me I did a headgasket on my mustang at 16, but it took me a week!) Like these guys said, read everything you can get your hands on.
  19. Guys I'll see about prices, then post them here. Do yourself a favor and go with a sealed power timing chain kit ($142canadian, for chain, tensioner, sprockets, front main seal) rather than the OEM one. ($132canadian for only the chain!!!)

    What's the Diff?

Hey dude, welcome. I've got some answers for you. quote As far as I know all 4 speed 240z's were mated to a 3.364:1 R180. quote Check out this link for accurate info. I believe its all correct. http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/GearRatios.html quote Check the page as I say. You can mix & match until your heart is content. Don't worry about the lies of the uninformed! quote Try checking out my page. The link is in the signature at the bottom. Also at the end of the turbo tech article I wrote there are lots more links to sites similar to mine, from other people. All together there is a lot of info when you add up everyones contributions. Welcome again!
  21. I'd be looking at the Q45 swap a bit more closely. I think there is more portential there, (more displacement anyway) with light weight as well.
  22. Composite tanks are used all the time industrially for shipping inert gasses, etc. I doubt you'll ever see a non-inert substance in one, because though they are strong and light, they are brittle. I don't think you'd want one on a car. (because of cost, and because of brittleness)
  23. Can't offer much, except that I went with OEM nissan on my rebuild for everything. Let me know if you decide on that, as I know a guy that can get them significantly cheaper than Nissan retails them for.
  24. I have a feeling its allready got a forged steel crank. I don't know of a nissan engine without one! Oh yeah, I forgot to put a HELL YEAH in my post.
  25. If you are looking for real 14" wire wheels at a good price, try emailing Mark at: markl@island.net He had some he was letting go really cheap.
