    SDS information

Not sure if this is true, but I heard that you want to avoid using zx balancers/pulleys (the 3 row ones) because they have a tendancy to break apart? Can anyone offer up more info on that? I've got a 2 row off my 240z that I hope to use, since I only need 1 row... Its a fair bit lighter. ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo

    Got my SDS!

You need to retap the hole for the sensor they supply, correct? Its NPT thread? (haven't really looked at it yet) I saw the pictures, looking good. I hopefully will be picking up my engine on sunday. Not quite ready for it to go in yet, but soon! Then the realy work begins. 3. Well I see you are in florida, that may be good news. Usually fiberglass body panels are used to replace rusted ones. Make sure that you don't get caught up in all the extras the car has, and not actually have a STRONG, rust free car. Check it out, you'll kick yourself in the long run if you don't. N42 and P90 are both casting numbers for heads. You can check the casting numbers by looking between the #1 and #2 spark plug holes. Check out http://www.zhome.com , and http://www.mindspring.com/~blittl/ZGarage.html for some more information. ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Got my SDS!

Evan that would be awesome. Either that or post it here. I got a scanner for christmas, sure is nice to have! ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo

    Got my SDS!

All I can say, is what a freaking work of art! Everything. (I'm speechless!) CNC machining is awesome, what a first rate package. Even the mixture meter is in a CNC'D case. Its sure nice to see a company that puts that much effort into making something so mundane as a EFI system into something really NICE looking. I may put the ECU in plain sight just because it looks so good! ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! 6. BTW, Drewz car is insane. Hehe. $50 wasn't it Drew? A LOT of fabrication time has been spent. Looked great when I saw it. Proves that with the right skills, tools and time you can restore anything! ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  7. Once again this site amazes me. We had what, 10 people in on the group buy back in october when we first started planning? And ended up with 12 people that couged up over $1000 and stuck with their word. You just don't see that often. 2 days you say? I hope I can get my engine bay ready for the engine this weekend, and maybe even have the engine in the car by next weekend! (still need to find a 2+2 flywheel) ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  8. Ah Evan, thats why you haven't got it in yet! HEHE. Seriously man, I thought I was taking forever at getting my motor together, but I believe you had allready started yours when I got mine started. Almost a year now. Scary stuff. So have you finally figured out the piston fiasco, or are you still pondering making your own out of pop cans? ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! 9. I found something that works too. Sandblasting! I spent about 12-16 hours sandblasting my car last week, from the firewall forwards. I'm glad the car was undercoated in the wheel wells, because there was little to no rust, but man what a pain to remove!! ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! 10. Hey Evan. Got the link to that picture off zcar.com, I think Ron put it up there. You know, I just realized how alike our cars may look. I've finally decide on a paint color, and while its not the purple/blue that you have, it is a darker metallic blue. I have the BRE spoiler on my car allready. And I'm using 5 spokes too. (I wish they were 17" though) As for changes between drives of the car, I will be up there too. I have no idea what the car is going to feel like. The only modifications from stock when I got the car were toyota calipers, 5spd and whale's tail. My list of modifications from stock is... well getting up there to put it lightly. (you can check my website if you are really interested) I haven't driven a Z in 5 months and its driving me crazy! (though I didn't have far to do) ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  11. Just some more fuel for the fire here. Joe Amato Top Fuel dragster. (courtesy of June 2000 road and track) 0-60mph = .8 sec (takes 31 ft... the car is damn near 31ft long!) 0-100mph in less than 1 second. 660ft - 275mph 0-300mph = 3.6 seconds 1320ft in 4.51 at 326.67mph. 4 G's sustained for the first 660ft or so. If I remember correctly you see about 3G's in a space shuttle launch. Mind boggling. ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  12. Whoa. Scottie are you saying that the GN is worse aerodynamically than the Z? I didn't beleive it was possible! Do you know the Cd of the GN off hand? ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  13. Check out this sweet car!! Evan has one of the sweetest Z's I've seen. Though it'd probably be better with an engine! Hehe, don't kill me for that Evan. ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! 14. Not to worry Nic, there are a few of us "young guns" around this site. I'm 23. Sounds like you are well on your way to a screamer of a car, with the safety items to match. ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  15. Kevin, I think you are grossly underestimating the power of both engines here! Scotties 13.09@110.97mph with his L series puts him at 293rwhp, given a 2750lbs car. The 11.5@122mph with the GN puts him somewhere around 389rwhp, in a 2750lbs car. As Scottie can attest to (and I've learned from reading some buick sites out there) these engines can produce INSANE horsepower. I believe Scotties has hardly scratched the surface of what this setup can do, and I don't think he's anywhere close to maxing it out! Hell, Derek Grub runs 10.x? with the same engine! ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  16. Well impressive! I must admit I've been in a corvair and not impressed with it. Everytime you pushed it at all that damn fan belt was thrown. (silly design, turning a belt 90* with idler pullies) A very cool improvement to be sure! PS: I like the .jpeg signatures the more I see them. ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  17. LMAO! Too funny. The dumb part is that I'm reading along and thinking "I don't remember ever hearing about this in engineering!" Haha. I still like the grassy knol... er, aerodynamic drag theory. ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  18. First off, if you follow my link at the bottom of the page, I have taken the time to write a turbo buildup article that will answer a few of your questions. $3-4k is a good figure. I started with a stock 82 JY engine, and went from there. If you are looking for 300hp then some type of programmable ignition/injection system is a must. Well, you could probably get by without it, but its not worth it! You have lots of decisions ahead of you. Forged pistons/race prepped rods... All depends on how bulletproof you want to be at 300hp. ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  19. I have a theory which comes to mind, but I haven't really thought it out. Hopefully I'll be able to make some sense of it by the end of the post. Lets say for instance with the L28 you were going 80mph after 1/8th, and gained 25mph in the 2nd 1/8th. Ending at 105mph.(just random numbers!) Ok, the GN with the extra power might be going 95mph in the 1/8, and gaining only 20mph int he 2nd 1/8th, ending at 115mph. The first thing that comes to my mind is aerodynamic drag. You can't really compare your gains in the 2nd 1/8th mile, because you are allready travelling faster with the GNZ than with the L28. I believe aerodynamic drag increases as a square to your speed increase. Double the speed, 4 times the aerodynamic drag! Thats my theory anyway. But I would think that the spoolup problems, injectors at 100%+ duty cycle, etc also are corrupting your data slightly. ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant ongoing! SDS ship time..

Yessh! I need to get my butt in gear. My engine is done, but its a few hundred clicks away. I'd go get it, but I have no where to put it yet! Must paint engine bay. Which means I need to figure out a colour. Argh! ------------------ Richard Lewis 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  21. I just stumbled across this page. http://zccw.org/Club/MembProfile/DerekS/details.htm You can see his dyno results from a link on that page as well... Ouch. From the list of mods there I would have expected much more. (perhaps his tuning wasn't ideal) For the price he has into that engine you could definately have other alternatives, that would make more power. (If more power was your ultimate goal, that is) ------------------ Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo

    SDS current list group

You hand it over in person! I sent mine from all of about 200km away in a straight line, those US east coast payments will probably show up before mine. ------------------ Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  23. Hmm, gunmetal gray on a Z... looks not bad at all! Maybe I'll try that. I need to decide soon on a color. ------------------ Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
  24. Lone, you crack me up. No idea where you come up with this stuff!
  25. Hehe, whatever floats your ark, I like that. I too am discouraged when I see buisnesses mixing their profession and their religion, in fact its often enough to make me leave. For those of you that are religious out there, please don't take offense. Its not the religion that bothers me, its the "unprofessionalism". (for some reason that word sounds all wrong to me!) ------------------ Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! Drax's 72 240Z Turbo
